Once again we must travel into the world of tomorrow! Good thing that tomorrow is a very literal one for a change.

Aww, you're lucky. You get to see the new material before any of us (except Steve OB) :)

It was close to midnight UK time when all this started to happen and I was lucky to just be on here. Oh and yes Steve OB is several hours ahead of my time zone so yes he sees it first. :)

Say Steve, how many times have you watched that clip with David Braben with all the monitors behind him ? I think I must have seen it over 20 times now at LEAST. There is an excellent thread about the content of the monitors too.

As for seeing updates "tomorrow", well it will be Friday night here when it is Friday morning there so depending when the material goes up I will either see it tonight or tomorrow morning. One thing is for sure though, we are going to be BLOWN away. The core fans such as your kind self, Geraldine, TJ, Archimedes and many others, and if I may humbly include myself on that list too, will be just blown away with excitement a time we have been waiting for for SO long and Geraldine NEVER waivered with hope.

I wish there was an ELITE chat room. I don't have any gamer friends so I am starved of ELITE conversations bar here and Space Sim Central.

I will always remember when this was announcd it was a public holiday here and I spent all day on here and on kickstarter. :)

Actually I'm living in Sydney now so I'm in pretty much the same time zone. But I suspect that any releases will be based on UK time rather than NZ/Aus time unfortunately.

Yes I was going to edit my post but you beat me to it. Yes we are the same time zone.

Yes updates are of course UK time but last time this all happened late in the evening which is our morning so you and I Steve will probably see something either tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest.

MAN I'm excited !!! Sorry....nerd moment there.

Money at 356,363 at the moment. I would feel more comfortable if it was at 50% total. I know...it's only been 3 days. I think I would seriously cry if the total is not met. Still....we have a long way to go so lets get those thoughts RIGHT out of our heads !

Well it's £1.5K away from the daily requirement but on day 3 to be concerned about not reaching a daily goal suggests that the marketing needs to be a bit more toward maintaining momentum. I would hate for the end result of this to be justification for permanently shelving the franchise.

The total started 57 Days To Go at just under £340,000 and has now reached £356,553
It has met it's daily target for today.
Tomorrow ... more info and video ... so tomorrow will be interesting.

Well it's about £500 below it's daily target when by all rights it should be blitzing it. It's a pretty clear effective stall, but yeah hopefully the added info will push a number of watchers over from sitting on the fence.

This is how I worked out it had met it's daily target :
From the £300,000 mark,
if it gets £16,500 per day, including today,
it will achieve the £1,250,000 target

(if you want to check my math ... 58x16500+300000)

Yeah that's pretty close to how I worked it out as well. The problem I see is that once Frontier has exhausted all its nostalgia base, pushed over the fence sitters, all they will have to rely on is the free publicity and word of mouth.

What there needs to be is a path for the nostalgia fans to go to a mate - hey check this out, this looks like an awesome game and show them the art and videos of the work in progress. There needs to be a first look interest factor to the project that makes people sit up and take notice. Hopefully the added info is a step in the right direction but it's interesting that this seems to have been launched without this stuff ready to go.

Like Star Citizen - that video looks bloomin' amazing! Perhaps will see some extreme awesome sauce tomorrow...

Remember Star Citizen already had backing and funding BEFORE Kickstarter campaign so they had a lot MORE to show and they only asked for $500,000 which the current pledges on Elite Dangerous already meet. I don't think SC got it's target in 2.5 days. If Frontier only needed equivalent of 500,000 USD we'd be there now.

The only fair comparison would be to have seen SC when they were at the SAME level of development as Elite Dangerous so again we just need to be mindful we are comparing the same thing with the same thing.

We all need to set people straight if they ignorantly just say "oh look at SC they have so much more to show for it".

[EDIT: Star Citizen of course have their own campaign running as well as the kickstarter one, they now have 3 mill from crowd funding as well as everything they had before it all went ahead with this.]

Star Citizen asked actually for 2 million $, what they need to get the support from their private investors. Showing them, that there is still intrest in spacesim genre. The actually reached this goal with Kickstarter and their homepage.

One of the good things was, that there is a paypal pledge option on their homepage. Still waiting for one on the Frontier homepage, then i will join here aswell. ^^

Yes I did see they have split it up into 2. One on their pages which keeps going presumably and the Kickstarter one that finishes soon. It was not as I originally thought only funded from Kickstarter.

They have 3 million in total now.

I'm sure Frontier are going to catch up soon and revamp their site or create something similar.

Fair point; I was unaware of that fact. :) We all know Elite Dangerous is going to overtake SC with ease though, don't we? ;) I have very little interest in heavily scripted space sims, to be honest and from what I've heard over the past day or so, SC will fall into that category.

SC will be very similar to Wing Commander just with better graphics and more complexity. I liked Wing Commander, I played it for a long time - killing Kilrathis in ships that looked like Battlestar Galactica Cylons was good fun and the dogfighting was very impressive. And the storyline although scripted was good fun.

SC is promising Wing Commander type gameplay to start with, and then branching into an open world like Privateer later (which was a much better forerunner of the X games).

I like the premise, I always liked the idea of being able to go into the bars on spacestations etc but in the original games the graphics were a bit pants. The kickstarter video though is looking far far better, almost real in fact. The main strength of the Wing Commander/Privateer games were the ship cockpits though with all the screens/controls etc around. I am pleased to see SC isnt going to disappoint there.

No I think SC will be another great space game. It wont rival Elite 4 because it is different. I think these two games could easily sit on my computer together!

With the 3 million $ goal, Star Citizen will most likely get the Privateer in 30 Month from now (probably).
But many points a right here. Star Cititzen will most likely has a more scripted and not so open and big universe like Frontier and Elite is a more free form exploring and fly around with a procedural world, but think not all areas woudn't be so modded in detail like by Star Citizen. Both concepts are very intresting. So i see both games of one of the other side of a medal. And i am looking forward for both.
Sandbox universe games should become both games, what i heard.

And yes, i hope the Paypal option will be up soon. Possible they will give the paypal users also the possibility for the first backers. But its most likely i would get it also without the first backer bonus, because i love such games.

Btw: Chris Roberts (Ceo and chief developer of Star Citizen) seems to be intrested in Elite: Dangerous aswell. He pledged for it aswell ^^

Again we need to be careful to check facts before giving out opinions which are incorrectly based in the first place. This is why anyone saying Star Citizen is better here the video is better etc that is like having two houses being build and one person saying "gee your builders are crap, my house is almost finished". When in fact the first house had the funding and work on it a looooong time ago before house 2 started.

This is why we ALL need to be mindful of wild speculation and what ifs because some people don't check and then others take it as facts and before you know it you have wild stories because people don't check.

Another example of no. We don't know anything of the sort. What we do know is that the pledges are going well but we don't actually KNOW anything till Jan 4th. We hope and things are looking positive but that is all we can say for sure. Lets stick to facts. Enthusiasm is good but we need to ensure we keep to the facts. You only need to look at the kickstarter page to see how rude some people can be not to mention wild unfounded speculation which is just a giant facepalm !

So Space Pirate, lets hope, lets be supportive and quash and set people straight when they are assuming things or simply not bothering to find out facts or even just ignorant of the facts. Level headed and calm.
