Hardware & Technical Elite Dangerous PC Build Opinions

Be aware that buying a more expensive mobo just to OC a cheap pentium is pretty strange logic. I'd rather go for a cheap mobo and an i3 instead as true dual cores can have bottlenecking issues that isn't seen in raw fps charts.

4GB will be fine for Elite (so long as you're not doing anything much else at the same time) so you can save money there if desperate. The 260X will run ED fine on near-max but the R9 270 is a nice step up if you can find one, or hunt down a 7850 and OC it to 1 GHz.

The motherboard should overclock just fine unless you're hoping for a world record :)

Yeah I guess it's cutting it a bit close these days. Would work fine for Elite but there are a couple out there that are actually 64-bit now.

This is the problem I have now- my QX8850 / GTX 460 / 4Gb RAM does the job, but its really difficult choosing to either upgrade the mobo & ram or just stick it out and wait until I really need a new PC. Right now I can play ED on a 21:9 monitor at 1080p at about 30 - 45 fps at full detail.

Yep, makes sense, I missed that. I was actually going to advise on that with the RAM as well, ie buy 4GB now, see if it's fine and if not can always add another 4GB later (but that is also moot as he already has the 8GB).

Yeah, my main concern is with the processor,, but the general concensus seems tobe the G3258 will be fine, as long as i get 30FPS I'll be happy till i can upgrade the CPU

Good news is to anyone watching this thread, I've gotten enough money to buy a decent i5 so I'm skipping the G3258, which im kind of sad about i was looking forward to playing with it hehe

I've got an AMD Phenom Quad Core with 4GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX670 with 2GB. EliteDangerous runs great at almost maximum settings.[h=1][/h]
