Is honking worth anything?

Sag A* is worth about 300k now. I think the best ELW is only worth 60k, which should mean a "honk" value is only 10k.

This does sort of show why ice/rock planets aren't worth scanning. You get ~50% of their value from the honk alone, so jumping to another system and honking again is almost certainly going to get you more income than the time it takes to travel and scan.

I sold data last saturday. Sag A* worth ~600k and The Great Annihilator ~300k
I noticed that some planets without surface scanner worth ~10k, 15k or even 20k

I had to rep the OP for the title of this thread, as it would make no sense anywhere else except a forum for circus clowns or road rage.:p

While doing "Econo-Honking" and only stopping to refuel once every 300 LY, I made between 500-700k CR per hour. This is better than mining income, and almost as good as mid-level trading. The key is to pick your route so that you land on more yellow stars and fewer dwarfs. Just do a quick scan while routing to check the rough ratio. Bigger stars have tend to have more objects = more CR. Dwarfs are the worst income for honking.

Tbh though, this kind exploring (while somewhat profitable) is extremely tedious and requires a degree of focus that doesn't allow you to multitask to break up the monotony. No time to stop and smell the roses. But then again since the roses are fenced in by exclusion zones there isn't much to smell just yet.

... I did quite a bit of testing on this a while back and the data was consistent with DSS = 6 * discovery scan, but inevitably the testing was limited to systems close to home as I needed to do a discovery scan, sell the data then go back and surface scan & sell the data again.

I just returned from a week long trip up to 5k ly away from Lembava, I scanned 455 systems and I monitored the prices of the unscanned planets. Most of them are 500 cr, as we all know. There are a few at 6600 cr, several at 8800 cr, and one at 10800 cr. Those prices are valid with your formula (DSS = 6 * discovery scan), which leads me to believe that either the old data is bugged (the planet worth 32662 cr was visited in February), or the data from far away is bugged (less likely).

There is a second bug with older data, my old 6604 system scans gave me 7433 reports for the Lembava CG. And my new 455 scans gave exactly 455 reports.

For those interested in the economics of exploration the following table shows the potential value of an object after its been "honked". Rescan value shows what its worth if someone has already tagged it, FD value if you will get first discovered.

I've used the object values from Captains Log, and just put an average between the high and low figures. Honk is 1/6 of the average value, with planets having a 500 CR minimum.

Hopefully this will help people make informed decisions about what they want to scan.
