Question on RES targets...

So due to my own error, I've had to move my operations for Bounty Hunting and now I'm in Rakapila instead of Kremainn. In Kremainn, I was regularly hunting Dropships, Clippers, and Couriers but in Rakapila I'm hunting Vipers, Eagles, Adders, and Cobras around 5-12k in bounties on average. How quickly will I get back to hunting the larger ships? There is a LoRES nearby but I'm not certain if this changes my available targets and I'm of Expert combat rank. I love hunting Couriers... Speedy little tanks...

RES are actually broken still, despite the security of the system, quality of the mining rocks, and influence of the wanted faction. I really do not understand why Frontier won't just spawn large ships for Hi-res and noob ships for Low-res. We must constantly reset the instance to get better spawns and even if you do it for over 20 times or an hour, there is a high chance you won't get what you want. Everyday I login to a RES I'll try to reset it a few times but to no avail, but by the time it does spawn good ships I'll be getting ready to sleep. There is a theory that good spawns occur only at certain times of the day (I suspect it's when the British are awake) and it has proven to me twice so far. Frontier nerfs/breaks RES in 1.3 but trading a good amount. I've never seen a patch break/nerf a part of a game this bad. It's ridiculous.

You forget that RES is not for bounty hunters, it's for miners. The intensity is a direct correlation to the security presence.

When at a RES site and wanting to hunt large ship targets (clippers, pythons, anacondas, dropships, etc) I had found good advice from this forum thread. But to summarize the procedure for checking ship spawns:

step 1) go to RES site

step 2) if the first wanted ship you see is NOT of the size of ship you want to fight, skip to step 4, else continue to step 3

step 3) if the second and third wanted ship you see is the correct size of ship, congratulations, you have gotten the correct spawn type and as long as you don't leave RES site or have another player join your instance the spawn type should not change, thus you can keep hunting and exit this procedure. If the second or third ship are not the correct type, proceed to step 4

step 4) open menu, select save and exit to main menu (do not select save and exit), this is faster than entering and exiting supercruise and causes less wear and tear on ship

step 5) start the type of session you were in again (solo, open, or private group, but solo is preferable for this procedure)

step 6) repeat step 2 (continue repeating steps 2-6 until you are tired of this or successfully exit on step 3)

After following some of the advice from the thread, I can say that my damage actually jumped with a pair of Small Burst Lasers and a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers. Can't wait to try those steps at some point soon but work is kinda in the way.

glad to be of help, but I can't take full credit, Commander GieNkoV was the one who made the forum thread I learned off of, which is located here. I got to Dangerous rank mostly doing bounty hunting at RES sites.

To be honest, I've never really been too sure of Step 3 - I just pop in and out of the game menu and fly around until I get a mix I like.

The security status of the system does affect the mix of ship types and relative abundance of re-spawns (and seems to also affect police presence too).

Some powers actively reduce security, even in systems they control/exploit (Hudson reduces security in independent and alliance aligned systems but increases security in Federation-aligned systems).

Have a look at the system stats in the galaxy map Power screens - see who its being exploited by and check that power's ethos for expansion/control/preparation to see what effects they may have on your favourite RES site.

DNYI's advice is excellent. Other things to know:

- You should always look for a high intensity if possible, you'll get more skilled (not necessarily larger) ships there with bigger bounties and who'll give you more progress towards your elite ranking

- System security matters quite a lot, a low security system will give you much better spawns on average than a medium or high security. Plus there's less chance of security killing bounty targets before you do because there's less of them.
