And the idiot of the week award goes to .........myself!

So after having explored several thousand systems and getting to the Ranger status, i eventually realise you can bind a key/button to 'Next system in route' And not have to trawl through the left panel Navi panel every single time. <doh> :)

Pfft, some Ranger you are! ;P

But yeah it was definitely added in 1.2, it just wasn't widely advertised that it had been added. I remember because 1.2 came out in the middle of one of my longest expeditions so far and it was driving me mad having to scroll the list every time, but I happened to read through the patch notes carefully which I rarely do and there is was buried near the bottom somewhere. I did a double take and after confirming it said what I thought it said, immediately ran to the settings and found it and bound it! :D

Didn't realise you don't have to overshoot stations - slow to centre of the blue when the approach time gets down to 9 seconds, it then slows you automatically. 'spose everyone knows that too. Is there a case for a top tips page? I still can't get Shield Cell Banks to work for me....grrr! and I'm a Founder.

I play with HOTAS, but I have 75% (which is mid-blue) bound to #7, hit it when I'm ~300ls (or ~10secs) away, and never overshoot.

Thank you sir! I'll be looking for this keybind when I get home tonight too.... And hunting through the rest of the list to see if anything else changed that i don't know about, since I configured my game.

Of course if anyone says that they just found out about keeping the speed in the blue area for maneuvering... that would be bad ;)

Hard core, fellas! I didn't put on the explorer hat until after 1.2, so I've had it bound for awhile. I can't imagine traveling like I have without it. Many props to you all for slugging it out the hard way (tips cap). Idiot? I don't think so. Probably dozens of hidden key bindings that we could put to use and don't know about.

Rep for bringing it up, and making a heck of a lotta folks happy!

7s works.

Its worth noting that when exploring my principle aim is to scan the planetary bodies as quickly as possible, so I don't want to get closer to them than necessary. Generally that means I'll drop down to 50% before the scanner stars (around 100ls for a typical rocky planet), then zero as soon as the scanner kicks in. Being at 50% makes it much easier to stop, and hence avoid getting suck in the gravity well.

I didn't buy the game until after 1.2 came out :)

The game has about 200 hotkeys, so it's easy to miss one ;) Still I think the game could use more hotkeys. For instance, a hot key to drop mines from your cargo hatch just to spice up your abandoned cargo for hungry pirates without deploying your hardpoints. Oh that makes me think of another cool thing which I will have to post on the suggestion forum: masking (mislabeling) cargo!

What would happen to your ship if you "accidentally" scooped up a mine into your cargo hatch?

I also use 50%, and have it binded (bound?) to #5, and go to 0 throttle once the scan starts. Last night replaced the useless "silent running" bind, for "next system".

No, idiot of the week goes to me. I sacrificed time to get my ass back for the community goal without realizing you need to sign up THEN scan to get credit.

Ah well, needed to dump that Sag A data anyway XD
