Whole damage system thoughts.

Hello guys. Lets discuss whole damage system in the game.


What i'm thinking about it:
According to some detailed pleasure things, the damage system seems to me as poor...

Damage system must be changed in my opinion.


I think Elite must be very detailed game. It's cool now, but there is way to improve.
Right now, if i'm not wrong you cant destroy every weapon on enemy ship, destroy it's engines and open it's cargo. You just blow him up trying to destroy his second weapon. You can experiment with your friend. Bleedthrough damage to hull is massive! If you will fire to engines accurately on standing target you'll left him with aproximetely 30% of hull when engines will be destroyed.


I think this is wrong.


I think that ship should explode ONLY when one of most vital system or part of ship has gone. I that case i would add new subrarget as "cockpit", or "cabin".


And to destroy ship you must destroy such parts as cabin, because you in it or powerplant, because it can hugely explode.


That means of course that there must be such places on ship direct damaging of those will never destroy ship. I think this is main point. For exapmle left or right far away areas on wings on my favorite Cobra. You know, any wing like part of ship usualy dont contains vital systems. But if you hit that - then something like maneuvering engine must take damage. Or maybe no damage at all for some areas.


Right now if you shoot with machine gun to a tip of hauler wing - you will destoy it. It's just wrong. Tt's just like in any other game before. But Elite can bring new to damage system. It must i think!


It's not the end. There is a good thought from someone about armor. That Hull is armor to protect your subsystem. When you breaching it you can hurt subsystems more effectively. Deducing hull to zero mustn't destroy your ship.

My major concern is the whole combat difficulty is in damaging enemy power plant before they damage yours. In at least PVP as PVE are far too nice to be as mean as us, I think this puts silly levels of overpower to gimbals and guns even that can gimbal. maybe I just haven't seen them but things like rails imo and plasma snowballs that can't are the weak link because despite doing more damage it is almost impossible (maybe I am just rubbish) to actually hit these sub systems you have to chew right through the hull instead making their DPS advantage actually a disadvantage.

SC for example some ships I have flown the whole back end of the ship has been ripped off and I have still been flying.

More realistic yes, but I don't know if it is more fun as I have only played SC in Arena commander where a fixed ship is only 1 spawn away, my thoughts might change if I was floating in space and waiting to be rescued for maybe hours as I could be in one of 400Billion systems (although probably only in one of the few thousand inhabited ones) while SC will only have 100 on release.
 
Damage to subsystems depends on your proximity to the target ship, if you are more than 1km away you'll do more damage to the hull than the subsystem.

The ratio of subsystem:hull damages increases as you approach the target, also you need to attack on the correct point to get the maximum damage, shooting at the Power Plant from the front of the target ship will do little Power Plant damage while shooting directly to the belly of the same ship will rip through the Power Plant.

Its good! It make sence. You need to break his powerplant o to destroy cabin.

In that way gimbal will be much more effective, yes. But what if gimbals will be shoot in random part of ship? will be much less accuracy. And only disabling auto ailm you will be able to aim that subsistem you want. Just thoughts.

But anyway. Why i cant disable enemy weapons without killing him? Why?

I didn't know that. That sounds amasing! I think it realy fun/ And you have little chanse to survive if you have friends. Also if there is no hope, then you can selexplode.
