Retribution laser analsys

Alright, i've tried the Mahon's retributor and the results are underwhelming.

1) It does no damage against shields
2) The effect doesn't go through shields
3) The heat damage done by 1 retributor against A-class Python was just 16% over 10 seconds (went from 32% to 48%).

Also, for some reason, it didn't fire from one of the conda's bottom large/huge slots.

All in all, it's totally useless at the moment.

Proposals:

1) Give this special beam laser the same variance as usual one gets, i.e. 3 sizes (small, medium, large) and 3 types (fixed, gimbal, turret)
2) EITHER increase the heat damage significantly so it could be used against hull as primary finishing weapon
3) OR let it damage shields, at some lower value than the usual beams do but without overdoing this nerf.

Alternatively,

4) OR just let it work through shields at 100% or lower effect, making it truly unique.

Imagine for a moment a wing of 4 eagles/vipers with this; i think the python will overheat pretty fast and ofc go boom.

Python won't even lose shields in the event like this.
Yeah but the goal is to destroy the python not his shields so i see this as a win for wing. Correct me if i am wrong but i think (not actually tested) overheat can destroy your ship easily.

If the sheilds aren't down then no heat is created on the python.

It's more of a pvp, than one for use against npcs, it's main job to to cause panic when the player is overheating.

I wonder how it will do as a back up weapon in a fight with a beam laser or railgun ship.

Most pilots tend to be thinking of leaving the battlefield when shields are down anyway, so...
Well, masslock + fsd charging + boosting = massive heat build up. It may not be too bad in that regard.

It may actually be a better pirate weapon than the cryoscrambler since trade ships run hot to begin with.

By the time you get down to your last shield cell you'll be well out of there.

You won't cause panic with figures like this. And unshielded player would already be trying to get out, so you know what would make them panic more? Actual weapon shooting them.

@ Huita: Very very good suggestions! I tested 4 of this beams in an Asp with absolutly no effect on my target. We can forget all speculations or fantasies: This waepon is totaly useless at the moment and had to be redesigned. Hopefully gimballed (!) and more classes.

Yup totally agree, esp with point 4.

Somebody needs to test these in a pvp setting, not pve versus a target that isn't shooting. Many ships get up to 90% heat regularly with rails/beams/PA etc, if they add just enough to tip over you could have situations where your opponent can't fight, or they may be good at cooking ships spooling up FSD to escape.

Obviously not the best of outcomes however you were kidding yourself if you thought these would work while shields were up, as they would either be monstrously overpowered or wouldn't do anything :p

You also then have to consider if the opponent is using heat sinks, does that make it useless ?

I am totally disappointed with this weapon. I was expecting a small beam laser, but not one that is fixed. Mahon is a trading power, so I was expecting a turret to beef up freighters defences. Now it's a case of "Your Eagle is in big trouble when I can get my Type 9 pointed at you....". I just don't get what the niche is for this weapon. Surely it can't be just a back up weapon. What's the point of grinding for 4 weeks for a weapon you will only use occasionally? I think that this is bad news for MAhon and his followers, as the special weapon farmers won't bother with him
