Disappointed by Archon Weapon (Cytoscrambler)

It is kind of funny to see all those PvPers who worked hard in PP and for the whole month had a wet dreams about instakill one shot "Smash-this-Noob-Sidewinder" weapon rage that the dreamed weapon is basically useless against other players. :)

You appear to have confused this weapon with the Imperial Hammer, which actually is that.

The Cytoscrambler was never hoped to be good at killing small ships, it was hoped to be a counter to massive mindless shield tanking with SCBs galore. Guess that hope's dashed :/

The Code just tested it versus a beam laser of the same size (c1) vs a python 4 pips in shield with 2 shield boosters and 'a' class shields. Weapons are at 0 pips and fired until capacitor charge runs out.

@ 481Meters

Cyto: 6% damage
Beam: 18%

@ 300 metres

Cyto: 12% damage
Beam: 18% damage

@100 metres

Cyto: 21% damage
Beam: 18%

50 Metres (we're bored):

Cyto: 21% damage
Beam: 18%

So... thanks for that weapon that does less damage than a beam except at stupid close range and uses more power in capacitor use and in module power drain. Woooh. Pretty colour though.

Take my life, my king, take my life over this abomination...

HAHAHAHA thats so bad its good. I can so imagine those frontier devs laughing as they realise those delained griefers and pirates will get this beauty of a weapon. This is so the right weapon for a Fer De Lance!
Do you realize those Delaine guys will use the old good weapons? This cyto will change nothing.
Disclaimer: i am one of the Delaine guys.

Well when you think about it isn't this supposed to be a pirating weapon? It's role seems to be much more for close ranged assaults on slow, lumbering freighters like the Types 7 and 9 to get the shields down for a limpet.

If you want a combat weapon my opinion us that thus isn't it and it was never intended to be this.

If you think this weapon is good for piracy, you've never tried piracy. I actually can't think of anything worse for piracy, than a small, inaccurate, power hungry shield stripper that does no damage to modules.

Which is another display of how FD devs don't play their own game and have no idea what meta exist in game, or how every profession functions...

Inb4 everyone defects to ALD for the Hammer... same power efficiency as regular rail... more damage... ammo (3/90)...

I'm gonna flip... I'm gonna flip so hard that I'll hit myself in the face with my foot...

Anyway, off to occupy myself with some good rum before I throw a fit and get myself banned from the forum...

Question for Fdev,

Why did you describe this weapon as a burst laser when it doesn't operate like a burst laser at all? It in fact operates differently than all other weapons in the game, that should have been stated. A lot of people joined this faction and spent four weeks only to be completely taken by surprise.

Why did you not declare that it only came in small size, like you declared Winters' pulse distruptor came in medium size? The lack of description made people think that it was going to be available in multiple sizes.

Pirates might as well just use a couple beams and a cannon or two... This seems like a totally pointless addition.

You must be new. So far we have been operating under a player discovery mode. We get detailed changelogs but a lot of things we have to work out for ourselves like merit decay to take a recent example.
If you expect all information to be handed on day 1 you are looking at the wrong developer. :p

I feel the same. It feels more like the child of a mining laser and a frag cannon than a burst laser.

I ask frontier, what pirate ships will use this gun? The asp? It's not manoeuvrable or fast enough. The Cobra? Too small a distributor, and also not manoeuvrable enough. No other pirate ship has a small hardpoint!

Does frontier think we're going round in eagles?

Have you taken no notice of the cost of fitting out larger ships versus the credits that any profession pays out? Yes, they think we all fly around in Eagles! :p

mhm... mhm.. mhm!... so many valid points you're all making.. yep. I'm so glad I didn't just spend countless hours this month on PP objectives for this weapon.... :c

If I were to design the worst possible pirate weapon...

Suppose I hated pirates, and just wanted to screw them over by giving them the worst possible unique weapon. Here's what I'd do:

  • Pirates need to chase down targets, and operate at long range, so I'd give it a massive spread, and make it do literally nothing at 500m or more

  • Pirates need to keep all pips to engines to make sure they can keep up with fleeing victims, so I'd make it extremely power hungry

  • Pirates find it easy to take down shields already, so I'd make it entirely focused on taking out shields

  • Pirates focus on taking out modules such as drives, FSD and cargo hatches so I'd make it do literally no damage to modules

  • Pirates need to intimidate and threaten their targets so I'd make it make no sound and do no hull damage

  • Pirates generally operate large, bulky ships with large cargo holds and huge guns, so I'd make it a small weapon only that requires a nimble combat ship to use

  • Pirates need to be versatile and ready for anything, so I'd make it single purpose and gimmicky

  • Pirates have to be at the cutting edge of PvP to fight off bounty hunters, so I'd make it a "fun" weapon that's easily countered and only usable against NPCs

Oh would you look at that, I've invented the "Pirate King" Archon Delaine's Cytoscrambler

Or should I say the Cry-toscrambler, cos crying is what I'll be doing after spending 4 weeks working towards this piece of trash weapon
