The RES RNG God's Have Smiled Upon Me!

Stay out of the high intensity areas if you are a by yourself and not part of the wing those NPC ships are on steroids and hit pretty hard before you know it all wanted ships will be gunning for you and kill you dead even if you have military grade hull you are likely to die or your thruster fail and your likely to die.

There is a few trick's :D

I don't always get a good RES roll, been when I do... 22,025,477 CR Not too bad for a couple hours worth of the ole Pew-Pew in the local RES!

EDIT: Here's a little RP to go with the screenshot. What can I say, the shoot out was inspiring https://forums.frontier.co.uk/images/smilies/vbsmileys/smile.png

"You know what they forget to tell you during Pilots Federation Orientation on Jameson Memorial? Nobody likes a Merc. It’s not an easy life being a gun-for-hire. It’s not usually a job you choose; it’s more of an occupational drift. You’ve done the Bounty Hunting, tracking targets across the galaxy, only to lose them to a wake-anomaly. You’ve done the government contracts, prepping systems for takeover and towing the company line; only to get crap wages and your butt on the Kill on Sight (KOS) list of every other power. So now you’re a for-profit warrior. You browse the GALNET, looking for a civil war tearing a system apart to make a living. Now you’re a mercenary.

They never tell you nobody likes a Merc. ‘Observe starport protocol during your visit, pilot.’ Traffic control knows why I’m here. My Pilots Fed report pops up on their screen, and it’s all right there. Deadly. They know a warship when they see one, and they grudgingly give me clearance for Pad 21. They send a quick message down to one of their buddies on the Pad-Rat Detail; letting them know they got a War Profiteer on their pad. The pad-rats don’t usually cause too much trouble, but they do gossip more than the entertainment news streams, and every cantina on the station is going to know about my arrival before I can pull up for my first drink. You know to keep an eye on the bartender making your drink after you’ve been traveling the war-path for a while. I grab a booth in the back and open up the station Bulletin Board while I sip my drink. Yup, there it is. Ugrivirii Life Inc. is offering 355,000 CR for a 9 ship kill count; it’s a good start. I finish my drink and start to make my way back to pad 21. The pad-rats have had plenty of time to re-fuel and re-arm my bird, so I should be out of here in no time.
When I first drifted off into mercenary work, I would look up the local politics and research who stood for what, and try to get a sense of who had the moral high-ground. Maybe hold off for a day or two if their side didn’t have a contract up. That doesn’t concern me anymore though. I don’t question the validity of their conflict anymore, just who is going to pay to swing the balance in their favor.

It only takes a few days of engagements for either side to turn your reception in the station from chilly to down-right hostile. Everybody knows you’re making millions of credits off their suffering, and prolonging the conflict in the process. It’s usually around day 3 when I start bunking up on my own ship instead of renting a room on the station. By then the local hot-heads know who you are, and they’re not going to sit around while you sip a brandy and check your contract deposits while they’re fighting for their way of life.

They never tell you nobody likes a Merc; but the sun shines on every dogs butt someday, and today is my day. I received a message from the local mining guild, Dominion of Ugrivirii, and they need some work done. Apparently the local crime syndicate has been working overtime lately, taking advantage of the chaos caused by the civil war. They’ve been in the Resource Extraction Site (RES) in droves, high-jacking the local miners. It’s been so bad, only about 17% of the miners are making it back to the station with their haul. That’s bad for business, but an opportunity for the likes of me. They’re desperate enough to offer a cool million creds for my assistance. That’s about the same amount of money I would make over a course of three days war-profiteering, so I gladly accept their offer. I’m accustomed to fighting war-fitted combat vessels, so I could use a break going after some rag-tag pirates for a change, easy money.

I get cleared for departure, clear mass lock, and spool up the FSD. The RES in question comes up as High Intensity, sounds interesting. It also just happens to be a mere 7ls from the station. I’ll barely have time to sip my coffee before I’ll be dropping back to normal space. From what I can see, the only tricky part is that the RES is in a dark inner ring of the gas-giant, and it’ll be passing into the planets shadow soon. I usually make a point of staying out of an RES while it’s in the shade, but I already accepted the contract, and you’re not going to stay in business long abandoning million cred jobs.

I drop into the RES after my normal 6 second approach vector, and man, is this going to be treacherous. It is dark, real dark. The enormous gas-giant looks like a giant black hole taking up a quarter of the sky, and the metal-rich rings are creating a black veil cutting the rest of the sky in half. The star field isn’t providing much light, and the only way I can see the belt is positioning my ship so the nebula sits behind it. I turn my bridge lights down to cut down on light saturation and flip my ships lights on. I won’t be sneaking around much with the lights on, but I won’t last long if I can’t maneuver around the asteroids in time. I deploy my dual class Charlie-3 Pulse Lasers, and put max power to engines to start scanning radar contacts. It’s not long before I come up on my first ‘Wanted’ ship, a Dangerous rated Python scanning a Type-7 doing some mining. I activate my Kill Warrant Scanner and position my ship on the targets 6 o’clock while it finishes its ten second check on warrant status. I don’t bother to check my contacts tab for the bounty amount; he’s marked ‘Wanted’, and that’s good enough for me. I’m in a superior shooting position, so I open fire while setting my ships power to full weapons and split engine / systems. The Python’s pilot starts spitting obscenities over the comms as he’s just realized a Vulture just pulled up behind him, and I’m not a part of the gang. The Python is no slouch; it’s a hell of a combat vessel and can lay down firepower that’ll make your components pop at a frightening speed. I know, I normally pilot one in combat zones, and I love my ship to no end. However, out in an RES, I find the Vulture is king. A skilled pilot can keep the Vulture on a targets 6 o’clock for at least 90% of the engagement, and this engagement is no different. This Python’s pilot isn’t bad; he’s boosting, popping chaff, making tight Flight Assist Off (FAO) turns…but it’s not enough. The Vulture is too maneuverable for him and after about 15 seconds of sustained fire, his shields drop. He tried to activate a Shield Cell Bank (SCB), but not soon enough. I set my targeting computer to focus on his power plant, and after another 15 seconds of juking and pitching, his power plant goes critical and the ship destructs. ‘176,000 CR Bounty Claim Awarded: Destruction of Criminal James A. Hill’ pops up on my Heads Up Display (HUD). Well well, you’ve been a bad boy Mr. Hill; let’s see if you have any other friends lurking about.

I would love to claim that the rest of the engagements went so smoothly. I’m a decent combat jockey, but I definitely got tested; it was an all-out melee out there. The Ugrivirii Syndicate must have got a message back to the station telling them a Pilots Fed CMDR was out there causing havoc because they really brought out all they had. I went up against Python after Clipper after Python after Vulture after Dropship. One Clipper almost did me in. I pulled up behind him as usual and began my routine; however this particular Clipper happened to have dual Class-3 Beam Turrets and dual Class-2 Multi-cannon Turrets. No matter where I positioned myself, his turrets were scoring hits. My shields ended up dropping and he started to chip away at my hull integrity. He managed to get me down to 78% before his power plant went critical and brought the engagement to an end. I boosted away to think about my situation for a second. I don’t want to be out in a fight sans shields, so I only have a few options.

1) boost away from any hostile ships and play the hiding game while my shields recharge. The smart move, but there is fighting everywhere out there and I’ll be missing out. 2) low-wake back to super-cruise and head back to the station to turn in the bounties and repair. I already made a bunch of creds out here, better safe than sorry, right? 3) damn the torpedos, and get back into the fight.

Well, I’m usually a pretty rational guy and don’t let the blood-lust make decisions for me, but for some reason, the lizard-brain convinced me to get back out there! I danced the dance of lasers, plasma, and slug for hours. One ship after the next; one wing after the next. I was no longer CMDR Jypson, Mercenary and Bounty Hunter. I was no longer flesh and blood piloting a ship of alloy and energy. I was one with the galaxy, one with energy and entropy. The exchange of energy and momentum lasted an eternity.

Eventually however, the lizard-brain began to give up control of my faculties. I realized my wrists and knees were singing with pain and abuse. I checked the ships chronometer; I had been out in the fight for hours. Combat operations are hard on the body, especially at my age; I’m no spring chicken for a combat pilot. I decided I better head back before my fatigue starts to affect my reaction time and end up getting me shot out of the sky or smashed into an asteroid I didn’t see in time. I retracted my hardpoints and changed my vector to head out of the gas-giants mass lock perimeter. My short trip back to the station was thankfully without incident. I barely remember it; I think my years of experience in the cockpit got me home on instinct alone.

I got permission to dock, and landed back at Pad 21 again. Not wanting to move from my seat, I pulled up the Station Services and proceeded to the Contacts to cash in my Bounty Vouchers and get paid. The screen read ‘22,025,477 CR’. I must have sat there for a solid minute counting and re-counting the number of digits in the figure until my fatigued brain finally accepted what my eyes were showing it. I hit accept, and was almost surprised that my account showed the transaction was processed. The biggest single payout I’ve seen yet, I couldn’t wait to tell Patricia the good news. It looks like we’ll be able to start the next phase of our operation earlier than anticipated. I was just about to open a comms channel when I got a new message notification, ‘Priority 1 Message Received’. Oh boy, what fresh hell is this going to be?"

I never did 22 mil in 2 hours : 5 - 6 milion at least.

Also the pic showed doesn't proof anything: you could do that in different times ....

Lol just last night I cashed in 39 million in just over 3 hours of playing. But hey, don't believe us. That's OK, more golden spawns for us that know the tricks :D

Never had such sum in 2 hours...

At max I got 4/5 milions: also the pic showed doesn't proof anything because nothing says about the time in the res sites...

To me someone is crafty here...

There is no trace of photo-manipulation in Photoshop of that screenshot.
And that sum is not made'd for 2 hours. Op didn't wrote that.

There is long playtime.

YAAAAAAWWWWWNNNN!...Forums are always full of these guys, either adding a couple of mil to the actual redemption or being economical with the truth in hrs played..I'm pretty relentless in a RES, staying on target constantly, yet my largest payout for 1 hour is 4.5mil (6-7 pythons, 5-6 Clippers, 5-6 Vultures) inc a mission bonus (400k) for killing 9 pirates in the system..Not saying that is the max by any stretch, but some of the figures are just OTT and if true, Frontier should sort it out 'cos its stupid money compared to others in the game. Lets face it it's shooting fish in barrel.

Look guys, I'm not trying to get in the Guinness Book of World Records, or crown myself king of the RES. I'm just trying to post a positive experience I had while playing Elite: Dangerous. If you feel you need to take some time out of your day to nitpick and cry foul for whatever reason, do what you gotta do. Like I said, this was no normal result. I've never seen anything like it, that's why I posted and got excited enough to write some fan-fic. I hope all you guys get to win the RES lottery too, 'cause it's a hell of a feeling. And please post when you do so I can poo-poo, I mean slap you on the back too :p Also, that is not a ridiculous amount of money for time played. If anything, it on par for Trade-Aconda bulk trading and a solid smuggling route.

Just for fun, here's some details about the run:
Who: CMDR Jypson, that's a me!
What: RES Bounty Hunting (or Pirate Popping is what I fondly call it)
When: Friday night from ~2130 to ~2330 JST while watching 3 episodes of Star Trek TNG before going to bed
Where: Ugrivirii HIRES just outside Jefferies Port (lol, funny Star Trek reference)
Why: I really like RES farming, but gave it up when 1.3 hit 'cause it was broke. Decided to give the whole Power Play thing a try and see if the 20% boost to bounties was worth the trouble. IMHO, not really.

Also, here is the un-cropped photo for your inspection:

And here is my casual setup that I used so I could watch some Star Trek while playing downstairs.

And for Opening eyes. I know where to seek now in Galaxy map. :D

22.025.477 cr - 20% = 17.620.381 cr.

5.000.000 cr (and few change) more. It's worth. :D

This is the sort of thing I wish they'd balance out though. a rate of 5-10 million in a couple hours would be awesome if consistent.

Right now I get about 250-500k in an hour in an RES. I don't reset instances, and I use fixed weapons, so I could probably double that if I brought my Vulture out. That speed is too slow to avoid the feeling of a grind.

Though I'd prefer a mission based fix, just evening out spawn rates could help a lot.

Yeah, come join in on the fun, I never hide a good find!

I completely agree! It's nice to see the assassination missions pay out a little more 'cause I really enjoy heading to different systems to actually hunt a target. I really hope they add more to that kind of gameplay, lots of fun!

Maybe that rare spawn rate is sort of balance.

Assassination mission with few million credit reward. For this I will run, chase, go in slow motion through the galaxy.
