In all seriousness: I see plenty of CMDRs in space, even in fringe systems. Not sure what's going on on your end, though. Sorry! You could try Community Goals locations or go to PowerPlay or rares trading hubs. You'll find players there.

There's quite a few reasons why you might or might not see other CMDRs in game. Firstly, there's 400 billion star systems, and less than 1 million players, so that's less than one player for every 40,000 systems... Obviously players (other than explorers) tend to be centered around the core populated bubble of systems, but even so, there's still plenty of systems for them to be in where you are not.
Secondly, players come from all over the world, so when you are playing, others might be sleeping or working.
Thirdly, there are technical reasons too why you may or may not see other players. You are matched with other players who have a similar quality network / Internet connection to optimize your game experience. If you have a very good Internet connection, and you are matched with someone who's connection is poor, you might see them behaving erratically, for example, sitting in front of you one moment, then suddenly behind you the next, without ever seeing them move.
It's certainly true that players may also be in Solo or Group mode, and you won't see them in Open if that is the case. Actually, the marketing makes it pretty clear that you can play with other people (strangers), your friends or on your own.
You'd probably never buy anything, or you'd buy a lot of things and be very disappointed, if you believed marketing.
To maximize your chances of seeing other CMDRs, head to other rare trading locations, such as Lave, or Leesti, as quite a few player pirates hang out around there. Expect to be shot at...
Also, see if you can find a community goal, and head for where that is playing out.

there are thousands of players online at all times , and I see about 12-20 players every 4hrs , and thats a lot when you take into account the scale to the universe

Currently around Antal and Lembava doing some stuff for community goals. Got real life issues (work trip) later this week so will be offline for a while but if you want to add me I have the same name in game but without the space.

Maybe it is a cunning poly to get ObsidianAnt to stop posting vids about the graphics downgrade.............I mean, if no other ships are with you, think of the FPS performance gains you get.
