Does Elite: Dangerous for Xbox One require Gold?

I think that the preview can be played in Solo mode on XBox Live Silver membership. To play in Open, XBox Live Gold membership is required. This is a Microsoft restriction.

I knew Microsoft was dumb when it came to multiplayer. Anyways, thanks for the info, I'm glad Frontier's FAQ was wrong.

Well, it has been that way since XBL first started well over ten years ago: multiplayer has always required Gold.

And MS isn't alone in the current generation: PS4 multiplayer requires PS+.

True, and you do get what you pay for, gold works really nice. I still feel that games like this (almost MMOs) should be free to play multiplayer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like multiplayer is a major element of this game.
As to PS+, I've never been a big Sony fan, so I've got no idea how that works xD

Yeah Sony followed Xbox in that move with ps4 which is sad :(

One would at least hope that now you have to pay to play online on PS4 the online service you can expect to receive would be better than that of PS3. Which was pretty bad IMO (PS3's online service i mean)

Do you need Xbox Live Gold to play E: D on Xbox one in its preview state? I looked it up online, Frontier says this: https://support.elitedangerous.com/kb/faq.php?id=148
I've seen other sources contradict this. I want to buy the game for a discounted preview price, but I also don't want to purchase gold. Any help would be appreciated.

No you do not, I've read somewhere that you do (I think it was on Elite: Dangerous official site) but you really don't.
