Instant kill after ramming, is it normal ?

As a trader (anaconda), I run fast (well, fast as an anaconda) outside once letterbox passed.
This time, one player in a small ship come very fast and touch me.

And then, station immediately kill me. (immediately : if anything had to scan me, I would be away long time before)

20M lost.

Is it normal ? I'm ok for a fine. Even a small bounty. I'm not ok with an instant kill, especially as I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE !!!

If you are going over the speed limit near the station and a player or npc hits your ship and dies, even if they run into you on purpose and die, the station will open fire.

The ship looked like a FDL, and I almost dodge it, with very few damage on my shield. I cant imagine he die on impact.

Pfff, now to play without constant fear at each letterbox, I have to play in solo mode, while I hate it ><

If you have the confidence and belief to throttle up; in or out of the letter box. Then you have no reason to go above the 99Ms. Understand that the green side is where you want to be. Also understand that, that hole, is a lot bigger than it looks. You have 4 mins to leave and 9 mins to get in, take your time.

If you are speeding (above 99 speed) and:

Hit other ship doing shield damage: Fine
Hit other ship and do hull damage: Bigger fine
Hit other ship and destroy it: Wanted = Station fire = death

This is by design. Either dock slowly, buy a docking computer or accept the risk. Even if the other ship is also speeding you get the fine/bounty.

Edit: He may have been silent running without shields or damaged from battle so even if you just took tiny shield damage in your Anaconda it could still be deadly to the other ship.

I didnt get killed inside, collision happen outside. I wasnt under timer. Actually, you get speeding at 4km away from station. You can even get it when you jump (good luck trying to jump at 99m/s)
Keeping speed under 99m/s in the whole starport instance mean a minimum of 1min40 to enter + 50s to leave (+20s to prepare jump)
As trader, keeping theses speed all the time would mean -25% on my income... For nothing, since I'm not hurting anyone (I never hit any pnj, I fly quite slowly in letter box or inside station, and I'm keeping plenty of free space in letterbox) Here, I just get shot by a crazy ship at 400m/s I couldnt fully dodge with my heavy loaded anaconda.

Causing death by speeding in the no fire zone is punishable by.. death. It happens to the best of us.. and me :D

The speeding laws are now one of the best reasons to buy a docking computer as when being controlled by it the ship can go faster than 100m/s and not be classed as speeding, so if you want to dock safely it's the fastest way.
I nearly freaked the first time I used the docking computer and it immediately boosted!

Obviously doesn't do anything for undocking, that's all on you.

Docking computer - 4 pips to shields and go for a cupper : you can't "speed" so if someone rams you they are at fault not you. (and NPCs move out your way)

I fly the fastest ship in the game, I use the radar and keep an eye on what I am doing. Inside and in the letter box, even though I fly the fastest ship in the game; I manage to keep it under 99Ms. Outside, I point and boost to target etc. I just don't run into things.

Edit: I have said this before, greed, it will always kill you in the end.

It's important to note that the SC to fill shields exploit was resolved, so ships around starports can have very little shields left. If he only had 60mj of shields, he's in a heavy ship, you're in a heavy ship, you're going fast, he's going fast... he may have been at 80% hull and you'd still blow up his ship. While it may inconvenience you, he also had to pay insurance costs.

The limits are there to protect people from large ships boosting out of starports.

Imagine in real life you're caught by a policeman exeeding speed limit, what would you say to him, that the speed limit makes you loose 25% of your income and that you weren't hurting anyone? Don't think so! The same happens in game: there's a speed limit near stations and you can choose to respect it loosing 25% or exeede it and loose the cargo plus the insurance cost. It's up to you!
