That did not convince me to put my money in. :(
I expected something a bit more substantial but it seems there really is not much more than concept art that does not even resemble anything shown on the monitors. How close to reality are those concept art images to what the game engine is able to show ?

That is a shame, and you are entitled to your opinion, but I feel you are wrong.

The game really is at it's early stages - from the video and comments by DB they have (to a fair degree) the multiplayer aspect worked out which is a good start.

The concept art gives you a flavour for what's to come - if the final game can look anything close to that (including volumetric lighting especially when you find things adrift in space and you fly up to take a look ) then I will be very pleased.

You have a number of weeks to decide yet and I am sure DB and team will put up more videos and pictures that might influence your decision.

At the end of the day £20 is not much of a risk - I am a great believer in this game which is why I put in considerably more.

If the project goes ahead but the actual game flops then I have lost my money, but if it succeeds ... oh my god! :D

Not sure what you mean by that, but then I'm not an expert on Kickstarter.
If the £1.25M target isn't reached, no-one pays anything. If it is reached, then the game goes ahead. I don't see how you can "lose" your money :S

If the project reaches the target (£1.25M) then it goes ahead but the final game in 2014 might end up being really bad .. so in effect I have lost my money (or more accurately invested into something that turned out to be a poor choice.)

However, (I hope and believe) the game is likely to end up being awesome, which is why I am happy to take that risk  Yesterday I was wondering if I had made the right choice and after the KS video I know I have.

We might get ship interiors to walk around in. Concept at 2:17 followed soon after by a model of a large yellow ship (2:30).

With any crowdfunded project there is a chance that you lose your money.

Some project fall apart months in; developers resign, companies go bankrupt, or things just do not work out. In those cases you lose your money...

Hi

So you see the biggest risk that they reach the target and then deliver a bad game?

Even if that was the case £20 for a bad game is still cheap!

The bigger risk is that they don't reach the target, and Elite never makes a comeback, this could be (is) the final chance as Frontier needs the funding to develop it and obviously they haven't been able to source that from a publisher who would probably want the game to be made to meet their expectations of Elite not David's or ours.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who even knows this forum exists is in a qunadry... its time to pony up

Time to trust that if we do David will deliver us another Elite.

Will Elite Dangerous be the best game ever, in reality probably not, expectations are far too high. Will it be a damn good game, yes it will, absolutely no doubt on that score!

The development budget for multiplatform games can reach £25 million and even single platform games can have budgets of £10 million. So £1.25 million is a absolute minimum budget to get anything good.

One thing is for sure, David and Frontier are the only people who can deliver another Elite, they need our help and the clock is ticking!

Your only question should be, do you sell drugs, slaves and alien items to find the needed cash?

Yes I suppose it is a bit conflicting I want this game to be made but I do not want to be disappointed at the same time =)
I have seen quite a few kickstarter presentations and in my opinion this one is really quite weak. This game still seems to be in the conceptual stage and not the alpha stage as so many other kickstarter projects are. My expectation from a kickstarter project is that some substantial progress has already been made with which then the public is enticed to fund the project to completion. I have quite often heard sweet promises only to be disappointed in the end that now I am cautious. I will indeed keep an eye on this project the coming weeks and maybe when I will see some more work I will change my mind.

Yes, but this one is.... Elite!

How many other kickstarters have you seen that people have been awaiting for at least twenty years? ;)

Elite without the Cobra!!!!

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Loving the concept art, hope the game looks as good.

I was just blown away. Totally blown away.

TJ --> Amazing artwork, that's my desktop too.

and of course there HAS to be a Cobra in there !!!!!!!!!!!

As for the video content I LOVED it. People need to remember ELITE:Dangerous is NOT at the same stage is things like Star Citizen but you can damn well be sure that Frontier are into full gear working toward MORE things to show you as Kickstarter goes forward, you will get more and more.

Artwork and screenshots blew us fans away and yes it is true non Elite fans will need more which is to be expected. So long as people don't compare it to Star Citizen as the two projects are in different completion states waaaay different.

Wait and see what Frontier come up with in the coming weeks. You can be TOTALLY assured they want to show you some gameplay video and screenshots and they WILL be coming.

Hopefully after Kickstarter Frontier will do their website up so crowd funding cancontinue and of course things like paypal. This would be especially so if they get over target as it can all be put under the ELITE *budget* per se.

As soon as the video started I was a little kid again. It was the 80s and David was talking to us about ELITE.

I know we didn't have this tech in the 80s, I was just trying to paint a picture for you all to try to capture the feeling I had when I was watching the video............ how many times have I seen it ?

You're reaction would be  "really?"

Thank YOU David and Frontier !!!! and a thanks to us fans on here and all others that are backing this project!

Yes.....I had tears in my eye from the emotion when I watched the video.

Damn straight ! Absolutely, 100%

Can you imagine what could happen if another company were to do it ? You can't ever beat the original creator. Other people might just put in a few tips of the hat for Nostalgia but not someone like David, he knows the importance of it all, we all know this. It can't be in better hands. My hope just like all others is that they get FAR FAR FAR OVER the target. I mean CRAZY amount over.

As it goes ahead they can even add more things to the pledges like I know people have mentioned digital art books etc.

I am just so overwhelmed with it all.............I'm a little kid again.

Same here. I am so glad Elite 4 is getting realised at last, in fact I dont think its really sunk in yet. I keep expecting to wake up and find the same dull old world without any prospect of a new Elite. And people say computer games are bad for you, well they certainly have the ability to make me very happy. I cant remember feeling like this about any game for years and years and years. I just will have to forget about it now for several months which is going to be very hard to do :(

A game that gets funded without needing a publisher is going to introduce things that other games just can't.

I'm not saying that publishers are evil - they just don't often risk it on something where they have no idea whether it will sell or not. It's a fine line between massive success and massive disaster :)

Crowdfunded E4 should be free to innovate and try new concepts.

VERY well said ! Elite 4 is in the BEST hands. I already posted about imagining if Frontier were NOT the developers and David was NOT involved how scary would that be. How LUCKY are we right now ?

Many of us have had the pleasure to see this for a 4th time.
1. Elite
2. Elite 2: Frontier
3. Elite 3: First Encounters
4. Elite 4: Dangerous

I mean WOOOOOW !!!!!

Oh my God, FFE3D looks more awesome than it has any right to be! Definitely going to d/l this. :)

It is but I could never get the icons to work on the control panel. There is a whole thread about this so if you're lucky you will run it and everything will work and you will see the icons on the control panels I for one can't really play it as easily as the icons don't show up.

Also please lets not engage in a discussion as to why it doesn't work, please see the special thread that covers issues with FF3 icons specifically, I'll go find that now and post it here in case you wanted to discuss it further.

Here is that thread. forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2314&

In the meantime we are getting a little off topic so lets get back to the video.

Just looking at David's eyes in the video you can see how enthused he is, you cannot 'buy' enthusiasm it comes fromthe HEART. This game comes from David's HEART.

Thanks buddy. :)

Oh, I agree. This guy loves this game like he loves his own children - the enthusiasm is there in bucketloads. If he can, he'll make the game and when bugs are found, he'll patch them. Unlike certain other devs...

Quite so. It's a bit like the recent Xcom remake - the devs appeared to really love the original game, and that they'd keep the 'soul' of Xcom - but the fact is now we have the game, the 'soul' is only there in the battles. On the strategy layer, it's a completely different game and all the worse for it.

Sorry for the offtopic. :)
