Killed two bucket-list items with one Earthlike - HIP 109167

I don't recall if my explorer rank is Pathfinder or Ranger, but I've done a reasonable amount of exploring and yet I've never found an Earthlike - never even seen one outside of the terraformed ones in occupied space!

My ideal goal was to first-discover an Earthlike on the boundary of occupied space - less than 500LY of Sol. So I've been exploring in our immediate neighbourhood, which isn't very productive because many or most systems are already visited, especially stars that look promising for any valuable worlds. So I hadn't even seen an Earthlike and I was resigned to the certainty that if I ever did find one it would have been discovered by someone else long ago.

Today I saw my first Earthlike, it is 436LY from Sol, and I was first to discover it! Woot!

Most of the neighboring systems had been visited, and there was evidence that good-candidate stars had been visited with priority by a few recurring-name discoverers, so I was really surprised that such a promising system had been missed. A bounty of over 50 bodies... and a blue speckled gem that cannot possibly be... but might be... but is... an Earthlike!

I left some low-hanging-fruit planets undiscovered - maybe in the following months or years others will claim them and I'll be able to tell I wasn't the only explorer to appreciate HIP 109167.
I've graduated Explorer School now. So... what's next is on my list of Things To Do...?

Here's the system and the world (and me!)

The ELW is about 20,000LS from the arrival point. So it's a few minutes away but not very far. (I didn't check the orbits - so for all I know the distance might vary).
I didn't notice any signal sources, but hopefully the system is close enough to Sol to have some of our "alien" life too :D

take a trip to the core...i'm half way on the return trip home. So far iv got 14 undiscovered ELWs that i can claim when i sell my data.

They can turn up in the most unusual systems, iv still hopefully got a claim on 2 ELWs that i found orbiting a Neutron Star, the NS had already been tagged but the rest of the system hadn't.

Great find Archvillain.

I discovered a couple of ELW, but never this close of the bubble.

If not already done, i think you can add to the Galactic Mapping project from Cmdr Erimus.
You'll be allowed to name your trophy ! :D
(And so close from bubble, it will be for sure a wonderfull holiday spot)

Hope you've got back and sold your data. I'd hate for someone to dash out there and plunder it before you got your name on it!

*slinks off and fires up friendship drive ;)

Congrats!
Don't do the stupid thing that i do, which is screenshoting each and every single earthlike, got like 2GB worth of earthlike pictures now o_O

Thanks for the kind words!

I do hope they weren't Water Giants you left unexplored there... you'd be kicking yourself if they were.

Heh, they might be! Gotta leave some tantalizing possibilities so others will visit for longer than a horn honk :)

Thanks! I wasn't aware of the mapping project. I've added this system to the map thread, but I don't expect it to qualify for the current map because the area around Sol is already so crowded that he's now selective about adding any more nearby points. But who knows - there may be more detailed bubble-vicinity maps made in the future.

Haha, you can bet that once I left that system, I didn't leave the game until the data was safely sold and the claim established! :D
That's the one redeeming thing about trying to find things close to Sol - it was only eight jumps to Jaques Station (in a maximally armed and armored ship - no need for a stripped-down long-jump vessel)

Man that looks almost exactly like the system I scanned last night with my first undiscovered EWL. My paintjob is the same as yours and I took a similar selfie. Spooky.

It sounds like you and I and this entire universe is, same as Elite, some kind of procedurally generated simulation with a lot of similarity between things... :)
In other news, congrats on your fine taste in paint :D
