Can't plot route...

Hey CMDR,

No, no, no... i'm not near the core and i won't create another topic on route in core.

I started a route to a star at ~1000Ly from my current position, and noted this star in Captain's Log, so i can follow my route after logging off / on...
This star is "COL 173 SECTOR BX-J D9-84".
But now, i'm unable to find it using the search option in GalMap.

Any hints for this ?

Searching for anything far away in Galmap that's not a one or two word star name fails to search. That's why in Fuel Rats when an emergency request comes in the first thing #ratchat requests is the nearest one or two word star name.

Sucks. It wasn't always that way but has been since 1.3 (?). I have yet to do my part as well, but it is encouraged for everyone exploring to mention this in the bug reporting section. Hopefully it will get fixed, as it is a major exploration buzzkill.

You might (might!) have better luck searching for it by entering its name like this:

Col 173 Sector BX-J d9-84

or

Col 173 Sector BX-J d9-8

The search has become quite finicky since 1.3 landed. I've been able to complete some failed searches by correcting the capitalization. In other cases shortening the search name has helped, but in other cases it has to be shortened so much that it's just not worthwhile.

Thanks Commanders.

I'll try this.

I was not sure, cause it's almost 2 month since i didn't explore... but yes, i don't really like the new GalMap, it makes exploration way more complicated... (or randomistic)

Edit : In fact i also fail to find something like HD 65632...

Whenever I pick a destination with a name like that, I also note down the approximate coordinates, so I can find it again manually.

Have you tried hitting the "play" arrow over and over?
It's annoying, but when I have trouble, doing this helps, even if it actually skips the system I'm looking for (foo-bar 11), and it starts at "foo-bar 1", and cycles through, eventually, it'll get there, or I'll see my system around where the placer is presently.

When i press the play button, or enter... it does nothing.
Not even founding the wrong star, it just point nothing.

Yeah. it's bugged. You can only search by entering COL 173 SECTOR, if you add anything else it won't work, even if you use the names of the systems that are actually there and you're looking at them.

It works alright for me, I just have to hit the search button a second time and it'll usually get going. How odd. Maybe the search engine gets slightly confused because it's such a large number of systems with very similar names.

Thats interesting!

On my trip to the core in a COL Sector I found an undiscovered ELW. When iv checked again to see if it has been tagged b4 i return & sell the data, I can no longer find the system on the map. I know that the system name is right cos iv got a piccy of the ELW.

Iv not reported it yet, I'm waiting to see what happens when i return & look at & sell my data.

One thing missing for us Explorers is the ability to look & check at the current scanning data to see that it is being stored properly.

We have no idea, when we are out in the black, if our scans are actually being saved for us every time. I really wonder with all the game breakers that we have had in the last few weeks.

My experience is that it relates to star's distance from SOL - I flew back from Sag A* recently via known waypoints (i.e. I was searching for a star for each plot) - the number of times I had to mash the search icon increased from 1x in the core to 'does not search at all' when I got within 2K of SOL. Stars with given names work fine, its seems to be the more complicated, generated ones that cause issues.

As far as i remember, it worked during my previous trip (before powerplay), i still have the paper with my roadmap and all name are awfuls...
I'm now running to a 2 words, 8 characters system, and no problem.

I tested using my list of ELW world i first discovered...
It seems if you shorten the name (for example "PLAA EURK WI-K C8-3" i searched for "PLAA EURK WI-K C8" ) *AND* using the multiple click on search button trick from RogueMason & mjmw...
I found my ELW system.

I found my ELW system.

I tried searching starting from the complete name & then i kept shortening it bit by bit & it still wouldn't find it. Still a couple of weeks off returning yet b4 i look into it properly.

Ahh. It is so annoying. You cant search on sight, you cant search by name. No wonder so many players are devoured by madness and starting killing noobs.
