Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

And if "easy mode vs hard mode" if just "guff", then please tell me why on earth people would choose to play an online game in solo mode, if not for reduced difficulty? Is it because people just find empty squares on their scanner visually displeasing?... Or don't like seeing other players entering / exiting stations?

I find interacting with people directly to be very draining. I do it all day and I don't want to do it during my relaxation activities. So I play Solo, or sometimes Group with a small number of fiends who accept my occasional silence and sometimes grumpy responses without taking them personally. I play an online game because a) that's what Elite is, like it or not and b) the design of the game and the background simulation requires players for its dynamism, fewer players means a less dynamic universe. Also most of the reasons DW gave earlier.

I answered your question, let me ask you one. Why did you buy a game with a mode system which you do not agree with?

Based on the infamy Eve has raised from players like yourself I've subscribed this week and I'm having a ball already. Elite could have had that draw but is continually pandered to and held back by players "worried" about in-game destruction.
Excellent decision on your part. I'm certain that you will be much happier there.

That is exactly what most people do not want this game to be. I'd hazard a guess that FD has studied EvE carefully & is committed to not making the same mistakes. Most people here do not want another EvE. Many people have stated that they were playing EvE, and at some time (up to 10 yrs) they got tired of the point-and-click gameplay and the goonswarm (including me).

No, I don't think FD and most of the players want this game to be another EvE.

+1 rep to you.

one of the things i liked best about eve was - that the devs took a complete "hands off" approach to interfering with player activities.
the thing that chased me out of eve was ----- that the devs took a complete "hands off" approach to interfering with player activities.

the goons and code and others of that ilk seem to insinuate themselves into any combat oriented MMO and take over.
the tactics seen in this thread are a good example of how that is done.
they flood the forum and refuse to let the thread die.
when the opposition gets tired of their tactics and quits posting, it looks like their view is unopposed.
if the mods kill the thread they start another one.

they exploit the fact that people that run online games WANT TO BE FAIR.
or at least want to appear fair.
and so they make sure that to stop them will take action that will look unfair.

open/closed/solo is hardly the issue when people just want to dominate.
they don't care if they destroy the game.
they want to push people around and THAT is the metagame they are playing.
domination through destruction.

i am angry.
if i play in open i must go away from the rest of the players and always fear if one shows up where i am.
i want to interact with other people, or at least leave the option to do so open.
i don't want to be separated from any part of the player base by going to the GROUP W bench.

however, the reality of the situation that the devs know about, and i agree with them, is that there is an small minority that makes a very big splash and has a strong effect on all other players of the game.
these people are the ones that claim that the game is being ruined by the people outside of open that are effecting open.
they complain that people that are beyond their violent grasp have an unfair advantage by being out of grasp in some more other than open.
they say that this is an unfair advantage and something needs to be done to stop this advantage of being outside of their violent grasp.
that these people that choose to be out of reach are {insert multiple already posted insults} and need to be forced into the mode that will allow them to become the only kind of content that they understand, targets.

well i got news for you guys. YOU are the reason that there ARE these other modes.
something that has been said over and over, and will be said again and again.
you are now in the mode that you just want to keep this topic going so that people that are thinking of buying the game will come and see that the greifing thread is huge here and just go away.
your goal is not to get the game changed to be the way you want it, you know that won't happen.
but you know that you can cause grief for the devs and players by chasing people away from the game because this huge thread and the ones before it make it look like the game is dominated by senseless killers.

so your goal now is to keep this thread going and make trouble.
i am almost but not quite sorry now that i payed for this game as i can see that you will eventually win.
you will win because you know that this, making these three modes is as close as the devs will come to doing what needs to be done to stop you from destroying their game.
i hope this works and disrupts your destructive intent.
however because the only people opposing you are decent minded, or at least want to appear to be decent minded, you will kill this game and win in that last bit of PVP metagaming.

but till then i will continue to play because i do enjoy the game even in spite of goons and code, etc.

to paraphrase and misquote some lyrics of a popular song;
my pleasure is not your pleasure. it is your misery.
my pleasure is not your pleasure. it is your misery.

Powerplay is useless because instead of being about faction teams and groups its bout grinding npc that are defensless in solo

I think it's useless for other reasons too but luckily Power Play is optional. What defences do NPCs have in Open?

A do not have a beef with any of the modes, and stated several times that players should be allowed to play however they want.

What I have been arguing all along is that solo players should not compete with open players in the same CGS, as playing solo yields much less difficulties in CGs, That is all.

I've switch from being a predominantly solo/group player to a predominantly open player, but i still use the other modes for several reasons.

I've mentioned these before:

1) Morning coffee being imbibed. Don't need PvP until the coffee kicks in.
2) Drinking beer in large quantities. Ill be bad enough at PvE. PvP would be a disaster.
3) Testing stuff, where i don't want to be disturbed.
4) When i'm just not in the mood for player interaction, eg: Long day at work, feeling grumpy.

Does that answer your question?

Yes it does, you actually agree with me.

;tldr Goons are everywhere!

And what makes me laugh is ppl making new forum accounts to keep their argument going, or to make it look like they are not alone in their way of thinking;)

Just the one forum account here. Your tinfoil hat is not needed. I am genuinely new to the game ( bout a week) but am so bored of its lack of social tools for an online game. In fact I've already stopped plying from boredom already.

Blaze your own trail? If monotonously trading between stations is "blazing" then someone's life must be very boring.

I hope that's true, but be aware that your choice of language tends to come over as if you are looking down on Solo.

solo players enjoy a walk in the park
solo players have an easier job... Without opposition
players in easy mode
people that ride bikes downhill
solo mode is way easier
solo mode CGs are easier?
solo yields much less difficulties in CGs

You did no research at all? The game has been around for a relatively long time now, there's no excuse for not knowing what the game was and what it wasn't.

It's simple:

Lots of things to do.

I wish you all the best in EVE, I did enjoy it myself for 2 years until the large player groups started acting like spoilt children.
Do keep an eye on Elite: Dangerous, you never know if something will be added you may enjoy.

There has all ready been a sweep of these forums and alts shut down.
And this is not exactly the first forums alts have been used on either.

And yes, Blaze YOUR own trail - says nothing about interfering with anyone elses trail does it.
People are off doing all sorts of things apart from trading - sorry if you cannot see what the game has to offer.

I myself and a trader and miner, but after working with the public for 20 years - time away from the masses is a blessing.
Spotify + Elite: Dangerous = Nice and relaxing. Not so much blazing for me, more like coasting my own trail - that falls under the Kickstarter view of "Play your way", which I am.

No tinfoil hat here, but i do have a foil kipa made from quality street wrappers to cover my bold spot :p

Yup.. blaze my own trail.. discover planets and stars no one has before, hunt down wanted criminals, help the power my allegiance is sworn too. But Elite Dangerous is not a instant action type game. This isn't Wing Commander or COD in space. In truth it is rather a great game. If I want action I can find it, if I want to explore and open up the map I can, if I wanted to mine rare riches or find exotic trade routes, I could. What you consider boring some of us consider desirable.

If you "stopped playing from boredom already" then why are you posting about a game you quit playing?

If you've had the game "bout a week" and you really know it well enough in that short period of time to say that you don't like it, go play some game you do like. It's that simple. I have lots of games I played for a week or two and realized I didn't like them. I quit playing them.

Doesn't seem to realise any PvP player from any multiplayer game might find issues with the linked modes .

That is understandable...... but linked modes are an advertised feature of the game. Why does every game have to appeal to competative PvP players? Elite is an oasis in a gaming desert of games which offer the type of MP that it does.

This is one of the reasons I love it so much. you dont, which is fine, but why not just NOT buy the game rather than buy it and then ruin it for the masses of gamers who love it as it is?.

I am well aware of how it feels for anotherwise brillant game to be ruined (subjectively) by its multiplayer side. The new Star Wars game has done exactly that. I am GUTTED starwars battlefront is just a MP competative arena shooter.... but it is what it is, but I see no point in buying it and then whining about changing it.... I just vote with my wallet and play something else. I am sure the game will do well as an arena shooter......

Personally I think it would have more potential as a co-operative PvE game with the richness and a story from the starwars universe and then have competitive MP as an extra but that is just me, as i said at the start, not all games have to appeal to all people..

(Basically a halo type game in the starwars universe would have been perfect for me)

.
No kidding.....it is on its own because other studios who have been doing this for a decade or so realise it is not the way to do it.....
.
You cant have an MMO where people playing on their own, in a separate mode and are untouchable, can also affect those playing the MMO.......it is on its own because it is a dumb idea that is a catch 22 game killer........
.
Don't get ME wrong......I agree there should be a solo/offline game........and there should be an open/online game......as originally planned.........I don't want to STOP solo players having their game. no sir........but the fact that you have a competitive MMO, with a separate "solo" mode that can still influence the MMO, is a total game and frachise breaker...it was a boneheaded move to placate those losing the Offline mode, and it has come back to haunt them to death......

Yet, in spite of this particular core feature set (or maybe because of it), the game is selling rather well....
