Expanding the human bubble

With powerplay factions rapidly expanding into virgin territory, we need the ability to expand the human bubble. How about introducing expansion mechanics that would give players this ability?

Edited: At least I'd expect a group of people to start terraforming a planet in a system, bringing in raw materials to start a platform or station. This would be good gameplay for groups.

No, I don't believe that humans should be able to start expansion, but expansion simply needs a boost. New systems have been created since the beginning of the game, quite a few, actually, but it may need to go faster for your suggestion.

Also, there is a huge mass of space towards Pukkeenat with no powers whatsoever. They should go that way first :)

There was an exploration CG for the Alliance in March which indicated that there would be colonisation later in the year. It's possible that the wording has no relevance to any colonisation plans but we can live in hope that FD actually have something unique and exciting being worked on! :)

Explorers Needed for Alliance Colonisation Programme

Beyond the borders of occupied human space, the vast mysteries of the universe are waiting to be discovered. The last thousand years of human history have been shaped by our combined ability to travel through the stars in search of a better future.

Yet what has humanity done with this precious gift? The same thing we’ve always done. We wasted it.

Greed and war run rampant throughout the galaxy, and the concept of freedom has become nothing more than a buzzword spewed by people who have never known it.

The Alliance knows there’s a better way, but to prove it they need YOUR help.

For the next two weeks, the Alliance of Independent Systems will be collecting exploration data for an exciting new colonisation initiative due to launch later this year.

Commanders interested in working with the Alliance should deliver any information they’ve uncovered in relation to potential colony sites to Purple Power Interstellar aboard Ziemkiewicz Ring in Tsu.

I remember that. And took part in it. But then I realized that I was being 'rewarded' for the number of reports filed, and not for the quality of those reports.

In other words, there was an inconsistency in the story and the game mechanic chosen by Frontier for this goal. Honking the discovery scanner as you were still slowing down from hyperspace, and visiting every star system for less than a minute, is not believable as a method for getting useful colonization data.

So I'm torn. I would like to think that there's a continuation of this colonization initiative hinted at in the goal. But from a point of view of credible immersion, I would be appalled if that goal had actually made a difference.

(By the way, if the goal had been based on profit, rather than number of reports, I would have been much happier, since you have to do real exploring - working out the best planets, traveling to them and scanning them - to get that profit.)
