Making money: from Vulture to Python

For you experienced traders, how difficult/easy is it to find a good trade route? For example, I know that in bounty hunting sometimes I have to spend 20-30 minutes just getting into an instance with a good spawn rate. Is there a lot of hassle getting set up for trade?

FYI I'm still dishing out rep for good answers :D

P.S. And do not sell your older ships. I know that this is tempting calculate "If I will sell my Vulture and my Asp, together with cash on my account, I already can buy Python...." but do not do it. Firstly, you will always have your combat Vulture for moments when you will by totaly tired with trading and secondly, you will alway have backup ships if something will happen (like you buy full Python of cargo and you miss that you do not have enough cash for insurance).

I always sold my old ship. The reason is that if he were to get a trading T7 and 3-4 million per hour he could rebuy the Vulture if he chose in a few hours of trading.

Fastest thing is to use something like http://etn.io :)

I took the long route, kept a Vulture, Asp, and a T7 on hand.
T7 was a necessary evil to generate money, the other ships to have fun until I could get the Python.
At the end, I really had had my fill with the T7. I grew to really dislike that ship.
Now have the Python, the Vulture, the Asp, and a DBE, and have fun in each one.
In no hurry to get to an Anaconda, though it interests me.

It is probably the question of personal preferences. OP has nice ship and more or less enough cash for Asp (at least with this 15% discount at Lembava), so IMHO there is no need to sell Vulture. But IMMV, of course.

There are dozens of trade tools out there to help you find a decent trade run. Issue with the T7 is that it can only trade between large stations...which mean fewer trade option..which mean fewer routes that offer big returns....by fewer I do not mean a small amount...only not as many as if you could land at the medium pads (like the Python can). Anything less that 2000crpt round trip is not worth doing. 2200-2400 are common routes. 2500+ are rare and usually people try to keep those routes a secret out of fear of them being over run and becoming no longer profitable.

Yes it is ONLY about personal preference. That is all that matters in this game. Play the way that makes you happy to play.

This website is everything.

The way I got to bigger ships might not be conventional. Some people say do not sell ships (specially if you bought them at a discount).

But I went Sidey(Sold)>Eagle(Sold)>Viper(Sold)>Vulture(Sold)>Clipper(Sold)>Python(Sold)Type-9(Sold)>Anaconda/Python/Vulture

I was strictly Bounty Hunter until I got my first Python. Then I traded on my Python, then Type 9, and now I trade in my Anaconda. I now have an A-Rated Battle Python of death and carnage, and a Vulture I'm working on. Do what you got to do to get to that next step you want.

Trading is probably the fastest, not sure it's the most fun.

I went exactly the same route (Vulture -> Python, I think I had just over 30m too) by watching the Active CGs thread and made a beeline for a bounty-hunting CG as soon as it appeared. By getting in early and playing 2-3 hours per night over 3 nights (the CG hit the max tier and ended early) I made it into the top 5% and earned 43m, including the reward and non-CG bounties. I was fortunate too that the global reward was a Faulcon Delacey discount, so got the Python cheap too.

This:

Total assets are 30 million...you are really close to being able to afford a trading clipper.

Then this:

Trade...trade until your eyes melt and you want to boost your ship into the back of a station :)

:)

Clipper->Python->Anaconda is a pretty easy progression. It's all about cargo space and min-maxing.

Definitely worth noting that if combat in an Anaconda is your ultimate goal, it's still a long haul from trading in an Anaconda to a combat-ready Anaconda. I'm sitting at a bit over 200M in total assets right now, and it'd still take me over 80 more round trips to have a half-decent fighting ship (which isn't my goal...).

Yes, CGs. I almost forgot this possibility. Mainly because there was no combat CG since the 1.3 update.

On the plus side, it may mean one is due soon.

It'd be interesting to see if a post-1.3 combat CG is as lucrative as it was before, with different RES spawning and more challenging NPC AI.

Fasteks way to move from vulture to python would be grinding credits in RES or grinding merits for rank 5, or grinding trade... grinding, grinding, grinding... such an awful word.:(

My suggestion is just stop! Stop looking at this game as some ladder you need to climb and start enjoying it. Python will come, eventualy, in a week, a month a year... who cares. Point is to have as much fun as posible along the way. :p

This. Enjoy the ride. If you like pew pew a python is not going to change your gaming experience much. Unless you get toasted and then your funds go quickly as someone else pointed out on another thread.

But a python will give you more options being multi role. It will come just dont rush into it.

I've been using Thrudd's but this site looks great! I'll have to check it out :)

OP: I'm right there with ya. Vulture and a T7. I upgraded from the T6 to the T7 as soon as I could. Big mistake. I ended up having to sell a cannon off my Vulture just to have some cash to fill the cargo hold of the T7. Slaves are very expensive per ton. Keep that in mind when your saving up for the T7. I wish I would have just kept my T6 until I hit the 20mil mark. I'd go back to the T6 but I'll take a big hit.
IMO the T6 and T7 fly about the same. Both are hogs.

All that said, Trading is boring. Big time. Except for the rare interdiction by NPC's (which I have yet to be fully interdicted) it's pretty safe. I end up listening to the Game of thrones audiobooks when I'm trading. I haven't decided if this combo is fun or not....

Good luck.

Sell vulture - buy Asp, kit it for trade, do runs to Outposts.
Sell Asp for Imperial Courier, kit it for trade, do runs to stations.
Sell Courier, buy python, kit if for trade; do runs to outposts.
Save money, buy combat gear.

I'm currently using my Vulture to fight within High Intensity Conflict Zones. I'm using burst lasers and focusing down Power Plants of Anacondas and Pythons. Typically making around 2mil/hour.
