Cheating cmdr

I remember the good old days of dedicated servers where you get perma ban if you cheated. That's how you deal with those scum. Ban one, two or five of them, rest will give up solely on fear of being kicked permanently.

Nowadays everyone gets offended by every little thing: "oh I payed for the game, I can do everything i want, you can't ban me or i'll sue you!" I say frak off mate, you cheated, you get kicked out, end of story!

They do get kicked out to a single server though. If they are shadowbanned, you won't ever see them again in your game. Unless you're SB'd yourself ;)

EDIT

Just imagine all the cheaters playing with each other in their indestructible ships and having no effect on the game world at all... :D

Much better than fully banning them I think :)

Of course those of you with paranoia about the effectiveness of FD in dealing with this could buy the game again, cheat, and see how long you last. But there again if FD shadowban your IP you will be screwed.

It would be nice if FD gave a little feedback. Like the number of people SB'd so far

If you are shadowbanned you get your completely separate universe? Trading in it, powerplaying in it, killing in it does not influence "our" galaxy in any way?

This post by Michael should explain:

Hi everyone,

I’ve had a few questions on this subject, so in this week’s dev update I will talk about cheating in game and the different approaches we’re taking to tackle the issue. First and foremost it is player feedback that helps us identify and then deal with cheating. This is especially true if a new method has been discovered to cheat in the game and that brings it to our attention to look into. Reporting cheats also means that we can conduct a thorough investigation of that player’s history to confirm if they have ever cheated or not.

We don’t just rely on player reports. We also have various tools that inform us of incidents of cheating. We’ll then review all incidents of cheating to ensure we take the correct course of action. In a few cases it can be that we identify a cheat that can’t be proven retrospectively but we can at least block and/or track the same behaviour for the future. We are constantly expanding the behaviours and markers that can be detected by the game and the servers.

We’re able to detect a variety of cheating instances which fall into these main areas: account trading, client hacking, bug exploits and player harassment or abuse. I’ve included account trading and harassment here because they follow a similar procedure to investigating cheating.

If we determine that a player has cheated (or some other proscribed action) then we have a range of measures that we can apply based on the seriousness of the action. For minor issues we can issue a warning, this is communicated to the player by customer support. Warnings are discretional only and not an automatic first step in the process. Indeed for serious issues we are likely to proceed immediately to the higher level penalties. We can also remove any quantifiable gains from the player if that is deemed appropriate.

We also have the concept of a shadow ban. A shadow ban will allow an player to continue playing Elite: Dangerous but will put them on a separate server that won’t affect any of our honest players; or the galaxy simulation. A player can be shadow banned for a day, a week or permanently depending on severity of the action and if the player repeatedly performs prohibited actions.

There is also the option for a permanent ban, this would only usually apply to account trading, severe harassment or abusive players.

You can help us react to incidents of cheating by remaining vigilant and help us by continuing to report players in game who you believe are cheating so we can investigate further.

On a lighter note, this week also saw the release of the latest Mac beta build with a some good performance improvements and stability fixes.

Thanks

Michael

how much hounding before ... the man in the broom cupboard gets the hint ?

In Mobius ... it took 1 diligent member to take the video of serial cheater "A" .... or perhaps lets call him Mr "X" (he is was reported on here until the threads were deleted..... again).... a pm .... .............and he was history

As Mobius' Private Group is a privately run entity within Frontier's game, a player being ejected from the group has lost nothing (except access to one of many Private Groups) and has no recourse to Frontier for that happening.

Frontier taking action against a player accused of cheating - that requires a different level of proof, in my opinion, as Frontier is able to restrict a player's gameplay as they see fit.

Confirmed cheating should result in an immediate permanent ban, like in most other multiplayer games. FD need to take a tough stance to discourage anyone thinking about using hacks/cheats. None of this warning then shadowban rubbish.

Name known to people in charge, I'm sure of it, won't name it here.

Thread with video proof has been deleted but I still want to know what will happen with that cmdr!

We all payed for this game to play it free of cheaters and exploiters but I see more and more of them in game. Is anything at all being done about this issue?

I can't comment on Frontier anti-cheat practises, you'd need to raise that with them. I'm only a moderator on the forums. If you're not finding my replies helpful, I'm happy not to reply to this thread anymore.

I sawed THE video. Cheater 100%.

And he is in LHS 3447, place where you can find, a spawn point for Players.

Can you PM me the video too, I'd like to take a look too and make sure it's not the same guy I encountered a month ago so I can tell you if they are being banned or not, his name began with T the guy I faced a while back that was a confirmed cheater by others

Edit: not the same guy, but 100% cheater
