Just realized that I'm unsure if Y or Z is up in the galaxy map? I assumed Y is (X:Y:Z), since the second value defines up/down.

Positive Y (the second coordinate) is up. Positive Z (the third coordinate) is the direction from Sol to the centre of the galaxy.

I've got 10t of Painite (which I mined this afternoon) being held in reserve for any more UA experiments.

The video of UA, Hf178, SAP8 and Painite from my perspective is here...
https://youtu.be/KUNlNDULuuA

As for the sound that Ratking15 wondered about, it's always been there, but it seemed particularly loud this time around.
I did wonder if there were any other sounds which anyone else could notice.
I thought I heard a new sound after the "morse chittering" finished at 1:57 immediately after the "purr" and was 3 tones. High-high-low.

Really good vids there guys

Kinda mentioned already, but that tone is in lots of other recordings, so I dont think it's unique to this one.

I haven't read the whole thread but I did see the newsletter update.

Has anyone that has one of these things - and I know they're extremely rare - jettisoned one in normal and let it expire to see if any Thargoids show up?

Yes, at least one of these has been allowed to decay outright.
It screams, explodes a puff of something and there is a flash of energy....

Ohhhhh,.... :)

If we get another UA spare, can we try letting one decay in the presence of Hafnium 178, SAP8 Core Container and Painite?
I wonder if the "death blossom" is modified by having those items nearby when it goes bang.

Yeah was gonna say that I didn't hear anything new in these recordings.

What I did notice, though, was that the purrs from both RatKing15 and Zenith's vids (where they cross over - I think with RKs 2nd vid) don't seem to follow the same pattern (although I am half asleep and 4 ales down tonight!) - which most likely means they're not location dependent.

They could be player-dependent, or - the more specifically - client dependent - meaning they probably don't contain anything new for us.

Damn I so want to come back and help the search for new UAs - but I'm determined to go from Pathfinder to Elite in this one exploration trip, which puts me out of action for quite a while... I've done 6kly, 300 systems visited and quite a decent number of new Water Worlds and other terraformables along my way. In fact, every system I visit at the moment is unexplored - but even then I think I need 10 times as many systems!

Anyhoo, enough of my pseudo trailblazing (going on journeys that many others have been on before me) - we're still in a reasonable place: there still two UAs in the wild, some people are constantly looking for them, a new one turned up this week, the Morse theory is confirmed (and I think we're not actually done there), and I feel we have some great new additions to the team (you know who you are!).

Remember - we need to keep this simple - these videos are a perfect example of easy (if you have the resources) experiments that can be carried out reasonably simply and quickly. By eliminating all these ideas we can only get closer to 'the answer', whatever that might be ;)

Well done all - over 700 pages combined on this subject, and nobody yet has referred to somebody as Hitler :D

now, did any1 yet drop it next to v'ger... sorry, voyager in Sol, or tried to heat it up with the PP heating laser?
or drop it next to some ice blocks (planetary rings)?

If there are whale sounds and whatnot, I wonder if maybe it needs water or a habitable planet - has anyone tried dropping one in space next to a water world or earthlike? Just happened to be out exploring and I came across what I think is an earth-like, or at least a life bearing planet, when I zoomed in on the system map I heard a whale-like sound, got me thinking ;P

or perhaps ... an ammonia world

Unfortunately I believe both have been suggested, and tried , to no effect :(

OK. does the shape of the object suggest anything that might be available on the commodities market that could trigger a reaction from it? Each commodity has a picture, have we checked to see if there's anything on the market that looks like a match? These are whacky questions but FD makes it sound like once we figure it out we'll be slapping our foreheads for missing it, so it must be right in front of us.

The Voyagers went missing around the time of the 1.3 patch. I have a UA & will drop past Sol to see if it will bring them out of hiding, but I'm dubious. Will record if anything happens.

has one been jettisoned in supercruise?

Unfortunately, yes. Wishblend accidentally did this earlier this week. Nothing happened, save for losing the UA she'd guarded so carefully for so long. :(

I'd recommend looking over http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Artefact, please. We're trying to keep it up to date with all experiments & theories put forth thus far.

I am enthralled by the investigations you guys'n'girls have done, and are doing, and find the posivity so refreshing! It's the first thing I head for to catch up on when I have a spare minute or two.

However, if it proves that the spores, etc are "alien in origin" and turn out to be threatening to mankind, is it only me that finds it faintly worrying that we're transporting the UA over so much of our own space?

Not criticising, just saying ...... :)

This may (or may not) be off topic.

Last night, in unavailable missions, was a mission called "obfuscated in the outer rim"

When clicked on it said

"the place that isn't a place, door that is also the key
the myth"

it wanted me to go to Macarthur Terminal in LTT 18486

Probably just a strange thing that means nothing - just thought i'd mention it, coz it makes no sense to me...

That's likely a reference to Raxxla, a mysterious place that was the doorway to other universes (dimensions?). It's talked about in "The Dark Wheel", the novella that came with the original Elite game. The full text can be found online if you search for it. It's a good read, but supposedly no longer fully canon.

There was a Door to which I found no Key
There was a Veil past which I could not see ...
