The only announcement has been that they will share the same galaxy simulation. What's important is that Microsoft has NOT announced any intentions of abandoning it's no cross-platform policy. It's not going to happen.

answer is no, we will not get instanced cross play where the xbox players will be in the same place as pc and mac players.

however braben implied that we'll get this when elite is much older and has fewer updates.

reason is with constant and common updates the pc and mac players will be delayed by xbox updates since you gotta do more QA and other nonsense to roll out updates for xbox.

crap id like to keep my pc version and be able to play w my xbox one friends... spend another 31 bucks to play w them and keep my acct ....

This is actually incorrect. They will allow it but only if they can nose around your servers and "certify" them to ensure a "good user experience".

Last I heard FD were looking into it but having to certify updates for consoles will slow patching as %OnePercent% says so it looks unlikely in the near future.

The first link is where I got my information in the first place. I was really hoping that War Thunder would come to Xbone so I could play with my son who doesn't own a gaming pc, and doesn't really have room for one in his apartment. Yudintsev's own words, "Microsoft is not allowing cross-play completely; which means [War Thunder] cannot be on Xbox One."

MS has its own plans for cross platform play starting in 2016. After that, who knows, but that's a year away at least.

Why cant they make a good investment and play on PC? search your feelings you know it to be the true way ;p

to my understanding FD wants us to be able to play side by side but due to the way microsoft updates games and has to check everything it means for update flow to be able to continue on PC and maybe some other tech details we will only share the background sim.

but then I wonder what about framerates? Because I run at about 144fps so that would give me an edge on console players and I would not want to have an edge over someone if they cant choose to , like the fact PC can use hotas and console can not I think that alone for ballancing is a factor... but then again I would like to help the new Xbox players get around and protect them from pirates and other hostiles (and steer them into the path of the alliance)

No, thankfully they cannot join us. (Sorry)

Get your mates to buy the PC version, I believe it's 33% off right now and a nice Hotas is infinitely better than a controller ;)

they dont like pc :( i been trying lol only reason why they play elite is i was talking bout it and they are it sounds cool now they have it on xbox one ...

A lot of definite no answers considering there are at least 2 interviews where David Braben has essentially stated maybe.

David Braben was questioned on this in the May issue of the Official Xbox Magazine:
Interviewer: Will the story restart for the Xbox version? And will there be cross-platform play?

David Braben: No, it won't. And we haven't said if there will be cross-platform play, but we know that there won't at some times. We don't want any one platform to be held back, but one platform might lead another in individual features, because that way we don't have to roll out updates across all platforms on the same day, which just has technical risks, so we'd stop cross-play at that time. So technically we can do - practically it's not certain one way or the other. It's the same galaxy, the same world and the same story you can contribute to. If you're contributing to building a space station in a particular mining area, you're still doing that and getting the benefit from it.

Also this is a transcript from a live Twitch stream during E3 on June 17th:
Interviewer: But, it's so important to note this is all happening on your servers right? Which means [David Braben: That's right] there will be cross-platform play so if I'm playing on the PC and Man's on the Xbox One (rest indistinguishable).

David Braben: Right no, not quite, they're playing in the same Galaxy. At the moment the Xbox is in the Game Preview Program. [Interviewer: Right, yes] So that's like a testing as we get, particularly CQC up and running. So it's actually running in a separate world [Interviewer: Right] but ultimately they'll be working together in the same galaxy.

Interviewer: Right, but so when Elite: Dangerous is final people on Xbox One, my fans or whatever, they can play with me while playing on the PC version and we can just wing with each other or they can try and kill me? [David Braben: Right] Most likely.

David Braben: Yes and no. They can be in the same galaxy, affecting the same things. The other thing, we're hoping for that [Interviewer: Right] but we haven't promised it yet.

Interviewer: Oh, I got it. OK Sorry, I don't mean to like oversell yet.

David Braben: *Laughs*
