People quitting PP?

After reading stuff on reddit and chatting with people i met through PP it seems that there a lot of groups leaving PP, some even fell apart. Others who started excited are now quitting too, or at least are thinking about to quit.
Each and every time because of how it is implemented and that it is too grindy.
Is there a trend noticeable or is it just me? What is your experience with the situation?

I ve seen other groups being created and others growing too. Players come and go as with any game or any game mechanic. The only reliable figures are the ones FDEV have.

PP only adds a minor playable 'boardgame' to the general game. It is not the 'point of the game' itself (as many wrongly have assumed, leading to frustation and disappointment)
.
It is completely inconsequential for your 'standard' game if you play it or not.
.
And it comes with some minor flair items as a reward for the casual players, or a more serious 50 million weekly reward for the hardcore ones.

I've given PP a fair go, pledged to Archon Delaine as I'm criminally inclined. I'm not going to bother with the merits any more unless the whole system gets a big overhaul. I like the extra variables that the controlled and exploited system stats give but that's about it. I might very well just unpledge and carry on largely as before.

OP - do a quick search and you'll see that PowerPlay is a topic that divides the forum. Some like it. Some dislike it. But honestly, I don't think we need another thread on this topic which has been rehashed a gazillion times in the past several weeks.

Still pledged to Arissa. No plans to go beyond rating 2 though.

I basically only dip in and out of the Power Play mechanics in order to maintain rating 2 - No grind needed, as I can do that in combination with regular bounty hunting and regular traveling back & fourth. (Ie. stuff I'd be doing regardless of whether or not PP existed)

Of course people are quitting. The 1st cycle has come to an end. Some, probably most, started for the new toys. If they have achieved that goal, then why should they stay. Players are quitting power play for many reasons, the grind, a lack of understanding, or even failed expectations, are just a few of the many; but often personal reasons, players feel that they have 'done with' power play.

There is something else. With the advent of power play, often a player has to choose. Power or money. It is hard to make some serious credits, while devoting your game time to a power.

I know that PP was discussed since beginning. I am talking about the recent movement in player activity and about all the groups that exist/ existed. AA, EIC, MM, FNE and so on all unpledged. Those were as far as i know pretty strong groups that (if i am not mistaken) all defected or even fell apart. I think it is alarming that everytime PP itself is the reason. PP itself could have been able to bring great stuff into the game that would push RP forward but instead it pushed it down.
Also i don't think that those groups where of minor influence since they have been mentioned in Galnet news.
This should not be a rant thread about PP, i just wanted to get your opinion on this movement if you have experienced it by yourself. If your experience is that it brings even more people and groups into play then that is cool and i would be happy if you tell me about it. But unfortunately my observations talk a different language.

Maybe i will stay in the facton but...
I don't want to grind more merits.
I have cash, i have hammers ( they sucks )... No need for more grind.

That is the whole point. You can pledge and stay pledged; if you wish to and at the same time, just do as you like.

Well in my case I find the existence of powerplay adds some "life" to the galaxy, I like the idea of "hostile space", althoug I think this free-to-kill state should only exist when factions are in some kind of conflict state, and not all the time. I am still pledged, but I actually stopped doing anything really PP related, not out of anger or annoyance, just because I don't really want to ferry papers around over and over from and to the same systems... Maybe this would become more interesting if instead of carrying papers, more realistic objectives were created for each system like "bring metals to fortify defenses", or "bring medicine and food", or "destroy enemy combat vessels" to some system preparing / fortifying, something like that. It would be a way to participate in the powerplay mechanics in a more "realistic" way, without having to ditch all the other activities.

I know that i can go to other factions space and shoot traders for "merits", but I also do not find the "shoot random people" mechanic quite that interesting.

I would like that PP factions had different states of conflict or peace between them, that affected the "hostile" status. Maybe in the future, after all PP was just implemented, maybe it will become more interesting and be added a little more depth in the future.

But like I said, whatever brings a little extra life to the galaxy is good, even if I just end up just a spectator like in this case.

Without insulting- but this "do as you like" ain't healthy for the game- or at least every aspect of the game. If it is about trading, BH, pirating or exploring, yes, do as you like. But things like PP suggest making decisions beyond "do as you like".
I know that there is no right way to play this game but certain things should require a bit more dedication than just "do as you like".
I mean, i can play any sport with my friends but as soon as i join a club there is no more "do as you like"
Or am i totally wrong with this?
Anyway- This was supposed to be about your experience and player activity in PP.

I was lucky to have a week off work and got up to about 4.5k merits, I'm just going to dip in as much as I can until I've decayed below the rank 4 salary then will quit.

My opinion (expressed many times by others here) is the merit decay is way too harsh and unneccessary. Powerplay is following the online pay to progress time gated game model, which makes no sense for Elite as there is no way to pay (real world currency) to progress. The only reason that annoying mechanic is placed in any game is to make players log in frequently and hopefully spend real cash in micro-transactions. There is no reason to enforce a (time limited) time sink in this game. It is simply a frustrating rather than fun process.

Err... 1st: I didn't say run riot or anything like that. 2nd: Organised, regimented and group controlled power play options are out there for those, more dedicated to the power play dynamic. What you are saying is, if you join a power, then you MUST follow the powers party line. Are you writing that party line at this time, because that is my issue. Yes there are tasks to be done, goals to be set and achieved, but the road you are looking down is going in the direction of, Total Power Control. This means the player; will report for duty at a set time, in a set place to do a set task and risk their 'overseers' wrath, for any digression or failure. Not for me and I would say, players would be leaving in droves if this was the case. Yes, the ALD folks got it wrong, by doing there own thing, but folks have learned from that.

I say that you can pledge and still be your own man (or woman etc), you don't have to pick up any of the propaganda packs and do deliveries. Just look at your pledged power, as a place you call home; maybe.

Yep, I quit PP yesterday, after 5 weeks of tedious immersion-breaking grinding for no reward. Time to start enjoying the game again.

To be honest, I don't take part in Power Play. It is a part of ED that I don't like, or want - it was never a part of the vision I had for the game, and I've been disappointed with it ever since. :(

Yup, this is what I think. And of course it makes visible the shenanigans of the galaxy, for immersion and standard play regard.

Hmm, we'll see how that works out... If the normal game is playable I could eventually pledge. For the time being I'm steering clear of it.

And this is what makes me still curious about it,...nothing else.
