Supporters of Arissa Lavigny-Duval, we need organisation and leadership!

Greetings, my fellow supporters of Her Royal Highness, the Senator Princess Arissa Lavigny-Duval!

It has become clear in the past few days that although we are many, we sadly lack the ability to use the full potential in our numbers. We cannot afford to go on blind, randomly preparing and expanding into systems, a trend that eventually does more harm than good.

In other words, we need leaders to organise our efforts to get back to and stay at the top of the Powers' list!

The community should decide on this matter, that's why I open this thread so we can discuss whether and how this should be achieved. I am going to make some suggestions, please feel free to comment on them and to give your own ideas!

I think the organisation should have at least three layers:

1. "Admirals" - creating strategy, setting up goals for each PP cycle - people good at maths and calculating by the rules of PP
2. "Captains" - responsible for logistics, allocating players and resources to tasks given by the Admirals (e.g.: one Captain for Preparation, Fortification, Expansion, Undermining)
3. "Soldiers" - the mass of players carrying out the above-mentioned tasks

Most of us would be Soldiers (I myself would be one for sure - I do not have the time to do more than that). Every player interested could register for one or more tasks so that the Captains would know how many people and what ships they had at their disposal.

This is just the basics of how I think the whole thing would work, a frame that needs details. I ask you to write your opinion about it and to give your ideas - together we can increase our efficiency to a much higher level!

Thank you for your attention,

Cmdr Colin Tatter, Duke

How will you use this leadership to control the majority that doesn't read the forums or subreddits?

What the powers need is for FD to overhaul the system and have the individual powers decide in general what expansion targets there are (essentially power specific CGs). The players should never have been in the drivers seat.

Point is there is no tools to do this. There must be agreement between thousands players and its impossible, there always be some anarchists or V column.
FD actively supports anarchy and disorder in that matter, I read mods being surprised that anyone dares to organize things.

Having said that - there are people who are doing you propose - look at reddit threads.

ingame faction chat, maybe coordinators who speak for faction leaders with power to see statistics, give orders, to accept and remove players if they do harm from faction etc. Current anarchy is jst bad and discouraging.

No. This is the best way to ensure a significant exodus from PP. I for one would drop PP instantly if this happened and I'm fairly involved in the subreddit for one power. No interest in a small number of players being in total control in the way you describe. How do you decide who is special enough to be given control? How do you think those excluded from that hierarchy would feel about their contribution? Remove players? They paid for the game no matter whether they are ineffective or disruptive.

No, personally feel an extension of nomination/voting towards strategy goals and decisions for each cycle is the only possible way to go. 5th columnists....works in two directions.

Until and unless FD can overhaul PP so that there is a modicum of organization in-game, by the players and for the players, there can be no hope for PP. I don't mean individuals or PGs taking control and "dictating", perhaps even something as simple as a vote mechanism for targets so that there is a sense of meaningful direction and progression.

Whatever, it's not my job, I'm here to relax and have fun but right now PP is more work than my day job.

As for Hot Space Arissa? I feel bad for ALD right now:

I actually think this is a pretty neat idea. An unofficial command roster, built by players - and perhaps maintained by players on a subreddit, as FD doesn't seem to want sub-forums devoted to PowerPlay. I'd nominate "feral" as Chief Admiral for all his effort on driving the Arissa PP strategy to date. Bottom line: getting more organized could make the game, and PP, a LOT more fun. I'd be happy to enlist.

"feral"? If I think you mean who you mean, hate to break it to you bud, but he's defected to pirateland. ^_-

I am not, nor will I ever be, even remotely interested in redit.

What we need are forums dedicated to the power, as well as some type of meaningful in game communication. Until then, the dedicated weekly cycle thread will have to do. Even then, with 3 p!ayer modes, any attempt at meaningful cooperation and communication WILL fail. All we can do and hope for is some type of meaningful damage-control. Even then we would not get on any type of structured gameplay in pursuance of a common cause - FD just does not allow it, fullstop.

Did you check the 'Powerplay subreddits' ?

No, actually I have never used reddit (I barely use facebook, let alone other social sites).
I agree with those who say that we need some ingame tool to communicate with each other. The game's "Friends" system, perhaps? I am asking because I do not have much experience with that part. How many friends can I have ingame?

I agree with that, however this needs participation by FD. I am trying to figure out something that would work under the current conditions in case FD do not change this aspect of the game, or not for the better.

I have thought about that. This was one of the main reasons I started this thread because I myself am not sure how this should be done. My idea about "Admirals" and "Captains" was not to give them power over other players, but to have people do the organisation work in a coordinated way. Their position should not be of power but of work and responsibility. Of course, they need some power to carry out these tasks, and what I am asking from you is the details of how this should be done.
I have never dreamt of forcing anyone to play in a way s/he did not want to. Enlisting for tasks would be voluntary and "orders" coming from "officers" would in fact be guidelines to help the effort. (The military terminology is there to enhance immersion and roleplay.)

I'm sorry for how this will sound, because I really do appreciate the effort to organise our player base. When it comes down to it, if you want us to be organised, start organising. Now here's the part that will sound mean: have you been paying attention? This is Cycle 6. We've been organising as best as we can for the past 5 weeks. There have been mishaps, arguments, threats of war, defections, confusions, and all out protest votes. This week, it's true, we did not have a preparation list ready, because after doing the maths, we were not going to be able to Prepare. Then FDev changed the rules, and the half a dozen of us who have been trying to herd the cats happened to be busy for four days. We're here, we're trying, please join us if you think you can help. When I say 'join us', I mean individual contributors who want to help Lavigny-Duval while not being a member of a dedicated group. Group members can and do help, but if the goal is organise the entire Power-base, group rivalries can take up a lot of time and drama to sort through.

In other words, we need leaders to organise our efforts to get back to and stay at the top of the Powers' list!

No, we really don't need ranks. We already have ratings. Those should be tied to how our actions have benefitted the Power and can contribute to the Power. Right now they appear to be tied to our ability to grind and bank accounts. This is silly and provides for ineffective leadership by example. That is why Power organization is like herding cats, instead of herding sheep.

In a perfect world, the mechanics need to change. Preferably, so Rating 5 is limited to the Top 10 Contributors. After a few weeks and rage-quits, every Power will likely have a rotating council of 10 players who can start the new cycle off by nominating the systems for preparation they feel benefit our progress the most.

In the current world, we continue as we are–we are struggling to get a pointless system off our Preparation List, but we have done it before and are likely to do it again. But if Overhead calculations don't change, we will hit the new brick wall and fall into Turmoil at the end of Cycle 7. Currently, based on how that is (apparently) factored, we are too large and too expansive to maintain our systems. The only way to streamline our Power Base is to force otherwise well-fortified systems into an undermined state. This is difficult enough if our merit-farmers didn't fortify to 300% anywhere that is easiest.

Heck, I noticed earlier tonight that good systems are still massively unfortified. We have the ability, this week, to decide whether to leave them open to undermining, on the hope that we'll enter Turmoil and lose them, or to fortify them and hold on tight.

TL;DR: If you want to participate and help, participate and help! There's no need to make a Power into a structured and ranked organisation when we already have our fill of those.

We are as organised as is currently possible, though we are trying to get even more inclusive. And yes, Zhang is correct, Fergal defected to Delaine. I am attempting to carry the torch for organisation of our efforts on the forums. Please, help however you can.

Reddit is used by force of necessity, and for some reason, the Groups like it. As for "Friends" I don't believe there is a limit, but there is also no means to police it. You get an invite, but no information about that person, just a Cmdr Name. There is no way to know if that is a comrade or some ingenious enemy trying to get you to tell him your position, as every friend knows your position on the galaxy map.

Lavigny's Legion is using military terminology to enhance immersion and role-play. Instead, they're inadvertantly driving people away from the subreddit because people are taking a fun and inclusive use of 'orders' as demanding and authoritarian. We are trying to address that.

Using ranks will not help matters.

Ummm, Im still pledged to ALD....not to be anti powerplay...but what is my incentive to do anything for my power?
If we are the biggest and win the race...how does that effect me?
I just dont feel the loyalty needed to invest any effort into helping our powers...especially after feeling shafted by our weapons modules.

Why would anyone want to lead this effort? Im just trying to figure out why we should be concerned about our so called powers...we still gain the bounty bonus regardless if our power is number 1 or 10...so why grind merits?

Higher rating = higher bounty bonus. Rating 5 is a 100% increase to bounty payouts. If that's not incentive enough, I dunno what is.

Hi!

First, I am sorry for the late reply but I've been busy fortifying Ngarawe and some other systems in the past days (right now I am writing from my workplace)... ;)

As for the "mean" sounding - no offense taken. You are right, I have not been paying attention. I went through the first weeks quite randomly, because I saw a steady increase in the Princess's standing and I thought that she would be okay the way things were. Then came the fall from standing 1 to 10, and that was when I realised what could happen if everyone behaves like I did, so I panicked and began thinking about how it could be made better.
I did not mean to question all the organising and strategy-making you guys had been doing. In fact I shared the link to this thread on your one because I wanted to know the opinion of the people who were already into it, and maybe to give an idea that perhaps occurred to no-one before. By the way, thank you for the reply!
So here I am, trying to help, I am going to follow the startegy theread in the future! :)
