Ships Imperial Courier

Wondering what type of ship this is? And what function/role does it play?

Or is it a multipurpose ship?
And what does it compare to?

I know I'm maybe being a bit lazy by not just searching up on it, but like when you buy anything in life its good to get peoples feedback first.

It's nice for short range missions. It's cheap. It can have over 600 MJ shields. It's cheap.

The wiki says multipurpose.

I use it for combat with one fixed C2 beam alser and two C2G multicannons. Some shield boosters, a SCB and a good SG make this ship an agile fighter that can outmanouver almost every ship except Vultures, Eagles and Scouts.
It has around 430 MJ shields but I used to have 500, however, due to the lack of firepower I decided to downgarde my defensives to trade them for offensive capabilities.

The speed is a bonus point as well.

I wouldn't use it for trading, though. Not for exploring. Its best role is combat in my eyes.

Ah, ok cool!
I currently run a Vulture, but I am guessing the Courier is suited to winged skirmishes perhaps?
Can I assume for combat I am better off in my Vulture, or do you think the Courier can hold it's own in that regard?

I might get one just for the fun of trying it out in any case, though! :D

I would say the Vulture is better for wing skirmishes, the Courier is a oretty good solo fighter. Its biggest problem is the mass lock - not that it is mass locked but that it can not amss lock any target. If engaged by a Python, the Courier has enough speed to run away quickly, Clippers can be outmanouvered but usually run away when they notice that they are bad (I am talking about player fights aka PvP only).
The Vulture has MUCH more firepower, a little bit more manouverbility and a little bit more defensive capabilities. However, when it comes to hunting or running the Vulture clearly fails against the Courier. Do not udnerestimate Speed/Velocity. It is the reason why I think the FDL is better than the Python (overall) even though it has probably less shields and firepower.

I have Cobra, Courier and Vulture. For solo fighter deep behind enemy lines Cobra and Courier wins hands down (see jump range, speed, boost speed and cargo fuel). In solo Vulture most of the time you cannot catch your targets. Cobra is the best for catch small targets but unfortunately it's not really the best fighter. In Courier, on the other hand, i can engage bigger targets and sometimes i even win :D
PS personally i consider Courier the best upgrade from Viper.

Vulture is better but the looks. I play with oculus rift. The courier has the greatest looking cockpit of all the ships in my opinion.
It's a luxury jet fighter cockpit basically.

I used it for powerplay until reching rank 4 by interdicting enemy factions and farming merits that way. For that it worked well. I did have to escape from elite ancaondas though. I might lack the skill but i could not take them on. :D
I am waiting for new content right now since powerplay rewards are kind of underwhelming for me but the courier will stay in my hangar. It is not the best combat ship but it is a very good one and it is quite cheap too.

I see the Courier a lot in Hi intensity resource sites, there just cannon fodder for the Vulture but they stay in the fight longer than an Eagle or Viper because they seem to have stronger shields. If there winged up I know it's going to cost me some chaff so they deserve some respect in a fight though I think their best suited to running illegal goods into port without attracting the attention of security.

Mine has a pair of beams and an Imperial Hammer. Basically, it's for light hauling missions through enemy space in Open, to discourage any CMDRs who might be considering an interdiction. If nothing else, they'll get a bloody nose from the encounter.

For everything else, I have my Vulture. They'll get more than a bloody nose if they decide to interdict me in that...

bought it, cause i loved my eagle. selled it shortly afterwards, because i prefer the dbs (which is faster, has a better jumprange, more agility... - i don't understand why, from its design). i did not find a role in my playstyle for the courier, beside

Its the ship you fly when you have a date ;)

maybe i missed something? i wanted to try an vuture after my tour out in the dark, i maybe will give the courier another try?

I like the courier. It in many ways feels like a vipernupgrade. I didn't like the cobra...was too soft. The courier can take a hit and flip back an skewer the attacker for their insolence. And having an eagle try and out manuever you is fun....They go pop real good.

Actually firepower is not that different, 3 medium hardpoints are equal to two large, the only problem is power distributor so you just need to combine lasers with something kinetic, not just "add some pulse lasers".
Shield is noticeably better on courier, because you actually have power to use shield boosters. And smaller size means it is harder to hit with fixed weapons.
Overall i find courier to be more capable in combat than vulture, and more fun.
