Painite

did some searching for this stuff for a mission and came to realize you can search for specific materials in the galaxy map and painite isn't even under the tabs. did a search on eddb an the closest place that sold it didn't even exist... no one sells this stuff. Ive been reading about it and people say they found it in strong signal sources and one just one person has found it in mining. sells for 34k a pop, second highest price thing in the market right now where im looking. I don't have mining gear so I guess its to these signal sources I wonder if its okay if its illicit when I turn it in..

Find it semi frequently when mining pristine metallic rings.

It is the most rare mineral to mine, but not so rare that it's impossible to find.

Usually rake in an average of 2 tons per hour of mining, sometimes significantly more.

Don't accept missions to provide it to stations unless you plan on mining it.

i am finding just enough painite to turn in for a couple big juicy mining missions asking for 3 painite at tech worlds per 2 hour mining session, so call it something like 6-8 tons of painite for every two hours mining pristine metallic asteroids.

Aye, Pristine Metallic Rings are the place to go. I'm yet to not find at least a couple of tonnes per trip.

  • Strong signal - T9 + 2 anaconda. Available 1-2 tons. Requires cargo scanner, scanner trace FSD. T9 runs.
  • Belts

General tip to the OP. Any missions that have the rock icon are mining missions. Basically any asking for Pantie, Platinum or Ossium.

True you do get ships carrying it. But if you pirate it from them it shows as stolen goods. Which as far as I am aware cannot be handed in for missions. Unless it was a pirating mission of course.

Painite, Platinum and Osmium can't be found for sale on the Commodities menu anywhere.
They can only be sourced from NPCs carrying them or from mining.

If you mine a pristine metallic ring, you increase your chance of getting good materials...

In my 192t Python with twin mining lasers and loads of collector limpets, I managed to get this much material in just under 3 hours...

22t of Painite in 3 hours. Along with the other metals being used for metal missions at high-tech systems, it starts to become worthwhile in credits. It's nowhere near as good as trading, but it's a change of pace, and it's pure profit straight on your trading bottom line.

A week ago, I was trying to mine, but the results were more than modest.

Look at the mining for dummies thread, my first try in 1.3 was not that impressive but was much improved after a bit of practice and reading this.
