Community chosen updates.

What Rodina does is the developer has 2 or 3 options for what he should do next in the game, and whatever is upvoted the most, is what he does. because i really... REALLY want to name my ship, and possibly have a decal with the name on the side of the ship. My sexy Adder will be named "Lillya III" and will go up in numbers each time it gets exploded lol.

maybe not for huge in game content but other small things people want.

No.

They have their plan, and their schedule. We might not like it all, but they know when things are ready (that needs to be ready for next thing etc etc). It would only waste time and ressources (and sadly these are not infinity).

and how will you stop inappropriate names?

Pre-Filter to remove the obvious - In game /report feature to catch the rest.

Other is perhaps to just not care .. all depends on target audience. (In Ark for example you can call your tribe whatever you want - anything goes )

Same way every other game manages to do it for player names. They obviously have to do it for our CmDr nnames...

Commander names are a lot less work as we only create a new name when we create a commander - I would expect that we would be able to name each of our ships and change ship names at will - that's quite a bit more time and effort required on the part of the team dealing with such things.

Come on, now, be a bit creative! There's lots of ways to moderate ship names. The simplest but most labor-heavy would be to simply check the names, but there are other ways:

We could have a small fee for changing our ship name (in-game and/or real money)
We could use preset words...

Maybe one name per ship, like if you want to change it, your ship has to be destroyed.
Unless moderators give you a name change ticket because its inappropriate or something.

I dont have a problem with this as long as people are aware there are younsgters playing. I have less of a problem if the names are puerile than I do if they are blatantly racist. I just see the whole thing as a can of worms. Then again it could be that I have a very poor opinion of the player base, who knows.

The game is rated PEGI 7.

The thing is, i doubt 10 year olds would be playing this game, and if they do, well i would assume they would be pretty mature not to get offended and all.

Unfortunately thats not the point. As a PEGI 7 it is suitable for ages 7 and above, even younger may be playing it, and whilst they may not be offended, it would be the player that would get the warning of inappropriate language.

Nice idea (about player driven improvements), but from what I have seen on the forums here it wouldn't work. If we polled 100 players here to nominate their top two requests, we would get 50 different answers and those that don't get what they want will just flood the forums with their complaints. Let the DEVS do what they do best, we don't know exactly what is planned for the future (and of that I am thankful), let them surprise us when a new enhancement is released.

In the boardgame community that I frequent, they deal with stuff like that by having the members do moderation. Enough have to agree to the proposal for it to go through, and also a high enough percentage. Above a certain level of disapproval it gets refused (it could go to 'proper' moderators, then). Quite simple to set up, and takes the moderation overhead largely off FD.

Of course, you still need the reporting to catch stuff that is finessed through.

I fear your concerns are well founded!

Ever played STO? The ship names are like reading a 12 year olds dictionary in a lot of cases. Personally I have no problem with this feature but please give us the ability to turn them off so we don't have to see the names of others ships, same with guild names if they ever make it into the game!

How do you stop inappropriate CMDR names? Whatever FD's approach (I've not looked it up), it can also be used for ship names.

Already answered in post #6

So I suppose if ship naming and re-naming was a store-bought item, then everyone is 'happy'.

I am not bothered about in-game naming of my ships, and only one of them even has a name - 'Trundle', my T6. I'd rather FDev put their efforts into planetary landings, improved multi-branched missions, and bobbleheads.

Please, no. That results in the most vision-less approach possible.

How about 'not at all', I should be able to name my ship what I want. People shouldn't constantly go berserk because they dont like a word they read or hear anyway. And about the whole 'children play ED too!' argument: if your child is mature enough to handle slavery and murder, he/she should be able to handle a naughty word, too.

Tell that to the rating agencies...

How about this solution:

Have commanders pay a small fee in credits, for the ability to choose a name by constructing it from one or more ''safe'' words (a bunch of harmless nouns, verbs and adjectives). Names are unique, so if some combination of words have some unintended meaning, the damage will be limited.

For a small cost in real money, you can name your ship whatever you want. This will be moderated.
