Federation Security stole my kill

I received a mission to take out a NPC pirate. I found him in Super Cruise and then followed him to his destination. I proceeded to engage and took about 60 percent of his health away (hull strength). Then the Federal Security showed up and eliminated his wingmate, and then chewed up my target while I was in the middle of turning around and I received a mission failure as I was not the last one to have shot the target. I believe that this last shot wins the pot is something I do not agree with. Is there a plan to change this system in a future update? Has this been discussed before and I just didn't have the appropriate time to find the discussion? Or is this just not going to be adjusted? It was just very upsetting to successfully find my target, hunt them down, and to have them robbed by the security forces in the area.

Please post replies if able.

Thanks!

Possibly worth turning off "report crimes against me" in the RH UI under Functions. The feds don't turn up to try and "help" you if you turn that off

Mouse and keyboard my friend. I was not in the zone during that battle. Thanks for the info on the RH UI option. I was unaware of this option.

I think this is a good thing. The waves of genericMMO101 that we've received in the past decade or two have conditioned us to expect success. Failing more often than occasionally is a great thing. It's also my opinion that this success expectation is what is making many people feel the game is a grind. Going further out of your comfort zone and doing things where there is a very real possibility of failure is how I've kept the game interesting throughout my play.
.
Being robbed in this way is a good thing.

Don't worry.
Apparently if an NPC flies into the back of you where you can't see them, its your fault.
6K bounty I can't shift because an NPC splashed themselves across my shields.
