It's a pity it wasn't a public poll - that way we could see who voted - and when they joined the forums. My guess is these forums have suddenly become AWFULLY popular with lots of shiny new accounts today. *nudge-nudge* *wink-wink* Say no more! Know what I mean? ;)

If that has happened, FD will know.

Anyone translate this to the Queens English please ??? :D

My attempt as follows :

I found and will share qualitative and quantative data from a public acedemic study below.

Guilds have an impact on self esteem and enjoyment of the game

This influence can be positive or negative depending on one's perspective.

Not wanting to risk negativity by introducing guilds makes sense to me.we stand to gain nothing that we do not already receive, but stand to risk much more. Until someone presents a study that proves guilds to improve the game I will be voting no.

Players influencing the state of stations within systems? We already have this in theory if not In functioning practice. Improving the functionality of background simulation for me and my friends is all we want.

We should look on the bright side of this, by being caught by Yaffle trying to cheat in an online poll they've proven the dev's suspicions about negative guild behavior being both undesirable and unsuitable for this game.

Well done them.

What did yaffle do?

Well, the suspicion was confirmed by a moderator.

But we don't know if these are players who never use the forums, but saw the poll on reddit and decided to vote.

I can't really voice my opinion in the poll, because I sort of see powerplay and the various powers as different 'guilds', just missing the 'guild chat.'

but players owning stations? Nahhhhhh

We do know there are 3 threads advertising this thread by a player who supports guilds.

We do know since the thread was advertised on reddit, the voting behaviour changed radically.

We do know Yaffle spotted an immense increase in new accounts who only voted in this poll.

Agreed, and there's also cases like mine. I used to be active here, but decided to go elsewhere back in December due to the heavy-handed moderation. I logged on here for the first time this year in order to vote.

Really? I actually think the Mods do a pretty good job all things considered........ Even if they did once edit out my referring to myself as a mule using a 3 letter word starting with A, ending in S (It's not swearing !) :p

Anywayz . . . Welcome back! Hope you stick around :)

Oh GOOD GRAVY GUYS. People should stop talking on behalf of Mr. Braben. Anyone who says 'Braben wants' isn't saying anything. If Mr Braben wants to say something; HE WILL. Ive seen him on this forum many times. Please put the Braben card away. If he didn't want Guilds he would be on this thread, saying so.
....and yes, some of us have a lot of friends who really, really want this kind of content, sorry some of you disagree. I have no problems spreading the information to different internet venues where you can find ED players. So what? Its called grass roots. Get some. :)

Er, no. A mod has the power to look behind the scenes at polls, and see who voted, even if we can't. And armed with a list of names, a mod can look each of them up to see when the registered, how many posts they have made (and when) and so on. It seems undeniable that a horde of new forum members voted on the poll.

What's with all of the reddit hate? Why would anyone subscribe to ED subreddit if they don't play the game? And if that does happen, the number of people, IMO, would be very low. Not enough to affect a poll like this.

Agreed, the mods here do a good job. The one exception, I would argue, was merging too many topics into the Powerplay megathread, but thankfully that's over now.

Piffle.

This year, he made a single post to announce the XBox. Apart from that, all his posts have been in Ask Me Anything sessions. That is that since we went 'live'. Before that, his last posts were definding offlinegate.

Bottom line: the lack of comment from DBOBE on here (not to mention other Devs) cannot be used to infer approval of the idea of anything.

Strawman. I never expressed any hate for reddit.

Why would anyone subscribe to ED subreddit if they don't play the game? And if that does happen, the number of people, IMO, would be very low. Not enough to affect a poll like this.
Except a moderator has confirmed this happened. 10 people created an account and voted while he typed this post:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=166180&page=20&p=2539253#post2539253

Now I'm not sure why you're trying to obfuscate this. It's obvious the results have been gamed, but it's also no big deal. Before they had, FD shouldn't succumb to popularism, after they have been, FD shouldn't succumb to popularism.

Mmmmm yes.

The number is unknown, but going by Yaffle's post: quite a lot, is an accurate approximation.
No.

I am going by the supported assumption that a lot of reddit posters whose audience has a tendency towards guilds would vote for guilds.
That support consist of the percentage posted in the OP's reference to the reddit thread
The comments on the reddit thread
And the fact this thread was advertised 3 times by a poster who is in favour of guilds, urging his buddies to vote.
Plus the fact that the voting tendency changed after this thread was linked in reddit.

I am not quickly jumping to the conclusion. I am drawing it from the evidence I see before me.

And I'm the one quickly jumping to conclusions?

What do you have to support yours? I showed you mine.

What I would like to know is, why would people who don't play the game, come and vote? Or are we suggesting that people are making multiple accounts?

Are we suggesting we need to have been registered on the forum prior to the vote to have the vote matter?

And if so, how long prior? How many posts do you need to qualify as a player of the game?

But there are legitimate reasons for this as well.

As someone said way earlier, there is a silent majority of players who never post on the forum. The either saw the poll here or on reddit and decided to vote.

Or people have created dummy accounts just to vote.

My guess is the dummy accounts is a pretty low number but I hope FD can confirm?

It's so stupid as well. They want to own stations but haven't thought ahead about what they're going to do with them, there's nothing in ED that benefits from player-owned stations - the mechanics are all built around stations being part of the background. If I go into CMDR Bob's station, who's going to pay me for blowing up 10 pirates? What about if my wing of 4 Type 9's arrives loaded with Platinum looking to sell? Is CMDR Bob going to shell out for the trade dividends? What these guys are asking for is a completely new game mechanic that doesn't exist at all in the game.
