Piffle.

This year, he made a single post to announce the XBox. Apart from that, all his posts have been in Ask Me Anything sessions. That is that since we went 'live'. Before that, his last posts were definding offlinegate.

Bottom line: the lack of comment from DBOBE on here (not to mention other Devs) cannot be used to infer approval of the idea of anything.

So he didn't say NO then?

The only possible reasons for guild support in-game are to build fame and/or notoriety and the ability to leverage your will against other people.

What utter tripe. This post, which I've seen quoted a multitude of times in the thread, is the epitome of ignorant naysaying.

By all means argue against guilds - but don't presume to know all of the many reasons why advocates might want them.

Host - “Someone asks – Will there be a Corporation, Clan or Guild system in Elite Dangerous?”

DB - “Right, there is the sort of Friends Alliance, but at least to start with we’ve not got Guilds and Clans. I think what we don’t want is the whole game to become ossified very quickly. Where you have to join one or the other to have any kind of fun gameplay.

I do like that, essentially it’s the game of the freedom of the individual. The ability to just go out and do your own thing.

Guilds can very easily become almost like Mafiosi, saying don’t travel here or we’ll kill you.

So I think it’s something that we will look at, and are looking at, but Friends Groups, which are very much more constrained, I think are great. But then when it gets very much beyond that It becomes a bit… It doesn’t feel right."

An oldie, but for me the sentiment still holds true.

....and yes, some of us have a lot of friends who really, really want this kind of content, sorry some of you disagree. I have no problems spreading the information to different internet venues where you can find ED players. So what? Its called grass roots. Get some. :)

Or one friend with a lot of time on his hands. :p

Strawman. I never expressed any hate for reddit.

Except a moderator has confirmed this happened. 10 people created an account and voted while he typed this post:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=166180&page=20&p=2539253#post2539253

Now I'm not sure why you're trying to obfuscate this. It's obvious the results have been gamed, but it's also no big deal. Before they had, FD shouldn't succumb to popularism, after they have been, FD shouldn't succumb to popularism.

Those could actually be players who never use the forum. The question is can FD figure that out?

But there are legitimate reasons for this as well.

As someone said way earlier, there is a silent majority of players who never post on the forum. The either saw the poll here or on reddit and decided to vote.

Or people have created dummy accounts just to vote.

My guess is the dummy accounts is a pretty low number but I hope FD can confirm?

Advice for you: When you are stuck in a hole, stop digging.

It is undeniable that the poll was very much skewed because of lots of new members signing up to vote. Ballot stuffing, if you will. I have no idea why you are trying to deny this, or to come up with alternative reasons why it might have happened.

And, in any case, as Ziggy keeps pointing out, the results of this poll are irrelevant, as are the results of the poll on reddit.

What I would like to know is, why would people who don't play the game, come and vote? Or are we suggesting that people are making multiple accounts?

Are we suggesting we need to have been registered on the forum prior to the vote to have the vote matter?

And if so, how long prior? How many posts do you need to qualify as a player of the game?
Cripes almighty.

Ok, lets stop putting words in Ziggy's mouth shall we? English is not my first language but I think I can convey a coherent thought. So answering these one by one.

Never implied they did

Nope.

Nope.

I'm not suggesting anything. I made an argument. You don't have to pretend I am suggesting anything, you can just respond to the very words I type on this very keyboard appearing on your, well, very screen.

I'm suggesting you read!

The same goes for you.

We will agree to disagree then.

Or..... Someone who subscribes to both forums saw the ealier REDDIT refs and said to their guild mates, clan mates, friends, add nausea lets go bug their poll out.... Either way it's very obvious that the poll is a wreck so it's best ignored. It was never going to be anything other than a rough straw poll anyway.

It's a pity it wasn't a public poll - that way we could see who voted - and when they joined the forums. My guess is these forums have suddenly become AWFULLY popular with lots of shiny new accounts today. *nudge-nudge* *wink-wink* Say no more! Know what I mean? ;)

yeah a lot of day one accounts popping up, and a lot of voting going on, this poll has been done before and im pretty sure the results were very different.

Here comes another new user, I know this guy, he's a Brit, and he will be here to vote directly. That wasn't so bad, was it?
I also just let it out to a few, fourty six, more players who haven't played since launch, they should be along sometime later today or tomorrow.
Nobody is busy making accounts to pad votes, unless its FD countering the cult of personality they created.
Just in case though, lets all wear our Foil Hats.

Oh no. Anecdotal evidence. My argument is void. Woe is me.

Is the poll a wreck because you don't agree with it?

If someone registered especially to vote because they wanted to say, where's the issue with that? How does it make the poll more inaccurate than it was before?

I see a lot of chat about the poll, but very few coherent points. Yaffles "revelation" is irrelevant without more data.

They do know, here's how :

In any game community there will people who never use the forum. They could have seen the poll thread on reddit or here and signed up to vote.

It could also be people creating dummy accounts to vote more than once.

We can't know that. Maybe FD can find a way to match accounts to players?

I think the only way to truly gague feeling this would to have polls like this conducted in the gal-net interface in-game, and even then the results would be skewed by multi boxers.
