So...a couple more questions

Well, I've come up with a couple of more questions while playing. I do try to look up the answers, but can't seem to find satisfactory explanations, so I bring them here.

My first question is: Interdiction - what is it?

I know what happens - while in Supercruise another ship causes you to drop out of it. But how is this done? Is it a device? Or is it simply being in the path of the traveling ship?

Second question: Wake riding - I've seen this term a couple of times. I can guess what it is - it is where someone makes a jump and you ride after them. How does one do this? I've seen the "High Energy FSD Wakes" left behind near stations, but do you with them? I can target them, but I don't know what else to do.

Next question - Sometimes it seems like Supercruise has a mind of its own. At times it slows down on its own, while on others it just floats on by at the speed it's at. Is this normal? I try to keep an eye on it, but I also have to keep an eye on a couple of kids & animals. (It can get a bit hectic at times....hehe.)

I apologize if some of the questions I come up with have been answered before, but while I do try to search for the answers I can't spend much time in front of the computer. I have a neurological condition that the computer monitor aggravates. (I even have to limit my play time on ED on the Xbox One.) So I can only do quick searches, and if I don't get my answer in that time then I have to write up a question.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Interdiction and 'wake riding' are done via installed ship devices. You need a FSD Interdictor to interdict and you need a FDS Wake Scanner to scan jumps.

The supercruise 'slowing down' thing is because your ship is interacting with local gravity wells (ie-planets).

I'd need a wall of textmto give you the answers you need. Chek Elite manuals and wiki and you'll get to know anything you need.

1 interdiction is done with a module that can be equipped to any ship provided the star port sells this item called a frame shift drive interdictor, if you want to know what starports sell them it is fairly common but look from one that is high tech it tells you this in the navigation menu when you select a system. once you have it equipped deploy it while in SuperCruise (SC), get within range, behind the target and press to attack button to initiate the minigame.

2 similar to interdiction you buy a module for your ship at a starport called a frame shift wake scanner, ed shipyard is a website that will help you figure out where these modules go on your ship, then you scan the wake and it tells you where they jumped to.

3 SC speed changes i believe based on how close you are to a gravity well (stars and planets) I believe, but it can be pretty weird, also it slows done if you are close to your selected destination (starport, asteroid belt, nav beacon, RES, etc..) also it speeds up if you are far away to your destination, it is pretty weird.

Hope I could help!

Ah, another question - I've noticed that when leaving stations that if I'm going full throttle that "Speeding" will come up ender the ship indicator on the right. Speeding? Really? Can we be fined or something for that?

You will only be fined for speeding if you collide with another ship while speeding. Collisions under the limit do not incur fines unless for some reason they end up blowing up, oops :p

only if you crash into another ship and it blows up, then it is your fault because you were speeding, this fixed an issue where trolls would camp outside a station in a big ship and ram new players for lulz, so ed did this, though it doesn't really help as the people doing it are multi millionaires usually and the fine is like 5k, aren't online players the best? :)

Don't apologize, it's ok to ask questions, it's a forum after all.

Interdictions can be performed by NPCs and players using a Frame Shift Drive Interdicter. It is a module that you can buy in the outfitting menu of most stations. It exists in different class, generally giving you more range if you equip a bigger one.
It is an internal module, NOT a Utility module.
To use it, put it in your ship, and bind it to a fire group. In supercruise, get behind your target, and close the distance to get in range of your Frame shift drive interdicter (it displays a text like "target out of range" if you are too far). The distance at which you can interdict your target can vary as it depends on your speed. The faster you go, the longer the range.

Wake riding, I suppose you mean following someone's wake. To do this you need to scan a wake using a Wake Scanner. It is a Utility module available in most stations in rating E to A.
To use it, equip it, bind to a fire group, and when your target jumps in another system, get in range of your scanner and scan the wake. When the scan is over, the system your target jumped to will be targeted by your ship. Jump to it like you would for a normal jump.

Your mouvements in supercruise are affected by the gravitationnal forces of the surrounding stellar objects. If you come close to a planet, its mass will interfere with your frame shift drive, causing you to slow down massively. The bigger the object, the more effect it has on your ship.

edit : I'm obviously not the fastest typer :p

As people above have said if you don't hit anyone you are ok. You can hit the station without any problems.

If you are speeding and you hit a ship and:
Cause shield damage = Fine
Cause hull damage = Bigger fine
Destroy ship = Bounty (can no longer dock and station + security will open fire)

If you are not speeding and do the above the penalties do not apply.

This penalties also apply if the other ship flies into you while you are speeding. The current advice is not to speed unless you are sure of your radar or can afford to loose your ship.

Speeding = 100m/s and above.
An easy way to avoid speeding is to drop your landing gear or your cargo scoop, it will help keep your speed down.

Think I covered all there is to know there.
Keep it coming with the questions, its good to ask since there are probably a load of other people reading the forums wanting to know the same thing :)

Just a side note concerning 'wake riding': you only need a wake scanner to use "high energy wakes', ones that indicate the ship has jumped to another system. 'Low energy wakes' can be followed without a scanner. The process is much like dropping into a signal source, or a station, just a lot more finicky.
