How is merit decay going to change next week?

Where? I can't find this post.

Not a post, I looked at how many merits I have now. I finished the last cycle with 10k and I now have about 4.8k.

I can't say that it is running exactly as it should, but it is different from previous weeks and I have far fewer merits being carried over.

What are the merit decay mechanics from next week on?

This is from here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=163495

So, here’s how merit decay should work, using an example of you being a Commander newly pledged to a power, who will be earning 10 merits per cycle from activities completed in each cycle:

At the end of the first cycle, you will have earned 10 merits. These merits are used to determine your Rating for the next cycle.

At the end of the second cycle, still assuming that you’re earning 10 merits for tasks each cycle, you’ll have 10 merits from activities in cycle two, and the merits you earned in cycle one will be added again, only at half value, meaning that you’d have a total of 15 merits (10 from cycle two and 10/2 from cycle one) used to determine you rating for the next cycle.

At the end of cycle three, you would be earning merits from activities from that cycle, plus merits earned from cycle two at half value, and merits from cycle one at a quarter value.

So if you earned 10 merits per cycle, in cycle three you would have 17.5 merits (10 from cycle three, 10/2 from cycle two and 10/4 from cycle one).

This trend continues; in its fourth cycle, merits are still awarded, only at an eighth of their original value. So, in our example, with 10 merits being earned each cycle, at the end of cycle four the merit total would be 18.75 (10 from cycle four, 10/2 from cycle three, 10/4 from cycle two and 10/8 from cycle one).

Merits are completely removed from your total on their fifth cycle, so in our example, merits earned from cycle one would be completely removed from cycle four, leaving us the same total of 18.75 (10 from cycle five, 10/2 from cycle four, 10/4 from cycle three, 10/8 from cycle two and zero from cycle one, as these merits have been removed).

The bug we suspect might exist would mean that the merit total isn’t being halved (or not always halved) on cycle two of its life span, instead being added again at full value. On cycle three it is being halved and on cycle four it is being quartered. It is still being completely removed on cycle five.

The upshot of this is that Commanders could be earning more merits than they should be: not the end of the world, but as clearly noticed, inconsistent and potentially confusing, it’s something we’re investigating.

It isn't as far as I can see.

My carryover this morning is consistent with half of last week (correct) plus half of two weeks ago (should be a quarter) plus a quarter of three weeks ago (should be an eighth).

That would work out at 4445 per week if not fixed properly next week.

Enjoy your powerplay Im out, the bonuses are mostly worthless, most modules also worthless, I gave it a real try but this is grind without reward.

Then don't grind? I don't understand. I don't enjoy grinding merits and I don't care for the perks, so I don't do it. There's plenty of other stuff that I can do for fun within the scope of powerplay, and I'm sure you can find something too.
.
It begins with getting off the bash train and pulling away from the herd mentality.
Sure there's lots wrong with powerplay. Doesn't mean there's not fun to be had though.

Interesting, thank you.

I agree.

So from next week on it's working like that:

W(eek) 1:
4000 Merits (new earned)

W2: 4000 Merits (new earned) + 2000 Merits (W1) = 6000 Merits
W3: 4000 Merits (new earned) + 3000 Merits (W2) + 1000 Merits (W1) = 8000 Merits
W4: 4000 Merits (new earned) + 4000 Merits (W3) + 1500 Merits (W2) + 500 Merits (W1) = 10.000 Merits
W5: 2250 Merits (new earned) + 5000 Merits (W4) + 2000 Merits (W3) + 750 Merits (W2) = 10.000 Merits

Correct?

Or is it working like that:
W1: 4000 Merits = 4000 Merits
W2: 4000 Merits + 2000 Merits = 6000 Merits
W3: 4000 Merits + 2000 Merits + 1000 Merits = 7000 Merits
W4: 4000 Merits + 2000 Merits + 1000 Merits + 500 Merits = 7500 Merits

and so on?

The bottom is correct. The top is not. In the top you are halving your cumulative merit count. This is incorrect. In the bottom you are halving each week individually and showing the total. This is correct.

Powerplay is pure grind, there is nothing else in it, if you implement grind then there should be a reward. But you dont participate so please dont comment dumb things like merit decay increase is a good thing.

Please don't call my comments dumb. I do participate. I wear my flag and I run around causing trouble. I drop into strike zones and shoot things. I move pamphlets from A to B. I attack people undermining my power. I care - I hope my power's standing improves every week.
.
But I never grind. To say there's nothing but grind is a complete fabrication. Powerplay becomes a grind only if the player decides they want it to be. I don't want it to be - when I feel like doing something else, I do something else. If your idea of fun is being rank 5, then yeah - you have a lot of work to do. My idea of fun is messing around within the scope of powerplay, so that's what I do. It's very fun.
.
By making the decay work as intended, ranking up becomes even more prestigious. Good. When I feel like becoming a pillar of aptitude within my power, I will do the work required to achieve rank 5. As long as I keep putting in that effort, I will proudly wear that rank.
.
I can only hope that one day they will add in pilot federation rank decay too.

Pilot federation rank decay too, what a great idead, not. Another great idea I see. What about automatic clear saves each month?or maybe even more creative, you have to buy a new game each 3 months, sorry for calling your opinion dumb I apologise.

I'm sorry you can't come to appreciate the decay mechanics. I suggest you give it an honest attempt, because your game experience can absolutely be enhanced if you embrace them for what they are, instead of what you think they take from you.

Psycho Romeo: Merit decay... I can't appreciate the game wasting my effort and time. The whole game should decay, credits, ships, ranks etc. So only you and devs will end up flying the empty space.
