Okay, so I was all thinking "Pff, Space Invaders? Really?" then I listened to the 10x sample and it actually is REALLY like Space Invaders!!!

But where does that get us?
Do we need to shoot them all?
WAS DAYGOBAH RIGHT ALL ALONG?!?!

No he wasn't: he told us (1010011011 times) to let it decay.
Here we are sayng to shoot at it and destroy: When you destroy a ship in game you have debris, and pieces of the ships.
With the UA we will have debris too and... its CONTENT! What's inside its head.
I will pay 3 million cr to the UA bearer who will destroy his UA as a refund ;)
joking... but, seriously, we should consider it...

EDIT:
space invaders sound:

It been done.

Just listened to the speeded up clip provided by bitstorm and I think I have it. I think (ducks for cover, but I'm serious) we're hearing the sounds of the old "Space Invaders" arcade game, or something very like it.

If so: the next Galnet update:

"Are you fracking KIDDING ME?!?" - Dr. Arcanonn and his entire team.

@kulin is it just me or are there actually three types of purr?

I think there are even more. This is a compilation of purrs i've made a while ago. Im not 100% but there seem to be more than three types.

https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/1.2_...ADyVk7UZsEKg4lrta5I_r2ilCQCmDe-3FsliQ2-PNRMVQ

They especially occur after the artefact has been dropped out. In the second sequence they are already gone.

Edit: sorry, wrong link. Corrected it.

Edit 2: They are very, very hard to hear, because they need to be extracted when the commander still trys to get the ship in position.

how many people are actually hunting for UA's here?
I'm in Timocani at the moment and there's only been 12 visiting ships in the last 24 hours! a couple of them are me and a few more are a cmdr I met yesterday who wasn't hunting UA's at the time
whats cmdr traffic like in 109 virginis?
maybe we should start a new prize fund to attract a few more hunters, it was suggested by arcononn earlier but I don't think it got anywhere

I had taken a break from hunting to raise funds and buy a clipper while they were available to everyone. Once i can afford another fit cobra i'll head back up there. it won't be till i get off work though

This really sounds like space invaders. :D

Omg!

Btw: You get much more purr-sequences, if you record in a system with a very short name. :D

But ... if i think about it.. you're already in sol and at mars. Cannot get much shorter. :D

I'm not sure that's the case.

Sol and COL 285 Sector ZZ-U B17-3 both have 5 purrs to start. The time for a complete cycle just increases. Col 285 is something like 55 seconds between honks.

What using a short morse name ... --- .-.. does though is increase the number of complete cycles we can push out in a single deployment so we can get the purrs running as fast as possible maybe hitting the 12 purrs per cycle mark. =p (not likely though I think)

Stupid question but nowt in the wiki, weve tried using an Advanced DS to scan bodies with it in the hold?

The nearest gravity object I think.

SAid it before, but... La Grange points. =p

You can get a shorter name if you drop it near Io.

Or for a real laugh, search for H on the galaxy map, yes it's a bit of a trek but it does exist (only one character match that I could find).

It depends on the characters of the morse chitter. You can see that here:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=141038&page=620&p=2477602&viewfull=1#post2477602

There we've found out that the chitter is position dependant.

Sleipnir is much shorter in morse than HIP 46388, because numbers are always very long in morse. The result is: we get 3 more purr sequences in one 5 minute drop out just because the morse-chitter part is shorter(9-10 seconds compared to 13-15).

You can see it in the pictures there.

I'm hunting UA, but I've been trying different systems as I got bored of Timocani.
I think I might actually have come across a good hunting spot.

I decided to try the three plague CG systems.
After signing up for the CG in Eleu and Dajoar, I tried searching for SSS there but I seemed to get mostly USS and very few SSS.

I then moved onto 20 Ophiuchi and WITHOUT signing up for the CG, tried searching for SSS.
Rates have been variable but I am getting some SSS here.
More importantly, the SSS spawns seem to be exclusively either Fed Navy convoys (of various types) or Gold traps.
In other systems such as Timocani and 109 Virginis, I came across many more types of SSS spawn so Fed Navy convoys were much less frequent.
No UAs yet, but I'm hoping that since I seem to be more likely to come across a Fed Navy convoy, I'll be more likely to find a UA Convoy.

Not sure if this is connected to the CG necessarily, might just be a factor of High Population and High Security level.
I also seem to be getting a lot of interdictions by Fed Navy ships which I've not seen elsewhere.

So if anyone is sick of Timocani or 109 Virginis, might be a good place to try.

I've tried searching for them and I found them.

Even better, I found them in inhabited space.

Specifically on the galaxy map, search for them. You will get one match, themiscrya. Worth a quick visit?

A short body name doesnt mean more time for purrs, the length of the cycle (honk to honk) just increases.

So for example:
  • Col 285 Sector ZZ-U B17-3 cycles in ~53.3 seconds
  • Sol cycles 28.30 secs (maybe mars actually but you get the jist)

It's not a set cycle time where whatever time is left over after the morse plays is used for purrs.

As I was saying above though, reducing the "morse length" (not letter count) of the body allows us to push out more complete cycles in a single deployment.

Col 285 Sector ZZ-U B17-3 you'd get like 3-4 cycles
Sol you'd get maybe 6-7?

This allows us :
  • More chance of finding a repeat in the cycle (people have been suggesting the purrs may repeat if allowed to play long enough)
  • Let the purr "replay speed" increase over enough cycles so we hit the magic 8 (SAP) purrs/cycle!

If i had a UA i would try Io for sure. H is a little bit far away if you consider the damage it does to the internal components! :D

I didn't say "more purrs" but "more purr sequences".

If you can have the UA out 5 minutes and one howl to howl takes 30 seconds in sol and 60 seconds in col XYZ you get 10 purr sequences(or howl to howl as you call it) in sol and 5 in col xyz.

Since you said you would like to see what happens if the tone could get even higher(like in your sound file) i think thats a way to get there.

Sorry I misunderstood you, were saying the same thing then. It enables more complete cycles.

Yes I really want to hear an extended deployment (scoop at 5-10%) near Io. =p

Hit (SAP)8 purrs/cycle (although the speed increase might be time dependent instead of cycle count dependent I suppose).

Also a planetary body TYPE checklist, it really does seem like it might be discovery scanning. Take the UA to each one, ticking each type off one by one. Ammonia- check.

UA Test priorities:

1) Tests Zenith is doing
2) Listen to UA with an Orca, possibly in Leonard Nimoy Station, then sell it there (not the ORCA, the UA... even if... ok. Orca and UA)
3) Space Invaders! Shoot an UA until destruction then prey for debris (like any ship in game) and, most important, its CONTENT: in this case, the name EASTER EGG, is perfect...

2 and 3 are very delicate because they imply UA loss... but... we don't know how Zenith is at scooping canisters... so n.1 could be about UA loss too...
