I know how he does it. I bet if you ask him if his method is convenient he will say no. I bet if you ask him if he would like guild tools he would say yes. Why are you against quality of life things others might use that you wont?

Ehm, I am a member of Mobius group and I do not need any other form of communication in-game. On the other side, we (me and two of my friends) are thinking about TS server for our communication purposes. But again, no need to change the ED game at all.

It's been a while since I read what he said on the matter - but I believe he was asking for better group management tools and interface. Groups exist in the game. Guilds do not.

Mobius - would you care to add anything for clarification?

And some of us would like in game tools to make things easier for us. Like being able to see who in our group is on. Being able to chat with everyone in the guild. As some have pointed out verbal communication is not a good option for them due to it disturbing others around them. Or some people are actually deaf so you know teamspeak literally does nothing for them. I can't always use teamspeak. So having a tool is the game would be very helpful.

Anti-Guilders have less than 35%. Seems the coin has flipped from the previous poll from 2 years ago, eh?.... How long can 65% be ignored?

Lol, 282 people could level that poll, even though....

1) The vote does not allow for limited player owned stations WITHOUT guilds, so if I want stations I have to vote for guilds, not like that will sway the poll in anyway (Oh an accident), OK lets close it and start a new one, oh no then we will be seeing "day 1 accounts" voting that have never posted rather than "Zero day" but I would bet less than before, "what again mate? I did it yesterday for you already and I don't even play the game, really".

2) Advertised on Reddit (twice) a forum where people tend to be more PVP & guild centric from what I have read over the last ~6 months.

3) Advertised on Reddit as an "official" poll (even if a "misunderstanding"), its "clickbait" you can't use "official" in post titles here any more, unless its .... official.

4) If you want to see poll fixing "my hypothetical mate" works for an ISP with several hundred thousand unassigned IP addresses and and a bunch of very clever programmers & network guys, If just one of them was clever enough to auto fill form and bot a post "he" could make the vote 99% against in 30 seconds. Or he could just email 283 mates, if he thought it mattered in any way shape or form.

If he asked me I would tell him not to bother & send him some DBOBE quotes about guilds, I have a few already but the KS one would calm his hypothetical nerves if someone could link it.

Because in your mind your method of playing is the only one allowed...and you say guilds just try to control people. Here you are trying to prevent players from playing the way they want to play. So much for the whole play your way theory.

When you log into the game, it shows you which of your friends are currently online - and if they are in solo, open, or private group. Their location is displayed on the galaxy map. You can open in-game comms with these people, text and voice. If teamspeak is not convenient, then perhaps open an IRC client? If IRC is not convenient, then perhaps telex?

I'm all for better in-game solutions as I much prefer in-game to 3rd party (although I admit I'm edging away from my old stance of absolutely no 3rd party useage) but it's not difficult to find solutions for these issues. Adaption and inventiveness are admirable qualities. You can't make a house out of a brick, but you can make a house out of bricks.

TS has the built-in chat IIRC.

Yes, I wrote almost the same couple of pages back. Groups are basically Guilds.

So, there is no need to implement something more, because Groups(Guilds, as you said) are already in the game from beginning. :)

If only there was some way of communicating to a lot of people using non-verbal methods...

Some kind of... Internet Relay Chat... let's call it.

You mean plain-text messages on one machine, somehow sent to a central postbox, and delivered to it's intended (or otherwise) recipients who can be anywhere in the world, in a real-time fashion?

And all they would need is some form of software to connect to the postbox and read these messages, and also reply to them in real-time? Using, oh I dunno, an acoustic coupler or something.

It's an amazing idea.

I can see, in the Comm's section, being able to create, and name, a persistent private chat channel with a simple, right-click easy, way to control population. I can see having a way to visually see, who, on a channel's player list is playing. I can see these channels being cross mode so players can still choose how they want to play.

What I can't see is guild holdings in general population space. I can't get behind guilds or individuals owning anything other than ships, in space. The worst possible thing would be spending development time creating large scale/guild content, including UI's, structures, and missions.

Note: It is obvious that the above is just my opinion, there is no reason to point that out.

So your solution is to make people at tab out of the game to chat...no that is not immersion breaking at all..
because having group chat channels in the game us so horrible....and having a list in game saying whose online in your various groups is currently online is so terrible...

Alt-tab out of game? Why? Run three monitors and the game in a window, have a laptop nearby, use your phone, use one of those Skype USB things, use a headset? All sorts of possibilities.

Because I use an oculus. Because not everyone has 3 monitors. Do I really need to go on?
Wait one, you want the structure of the game changed because YOU use an oculus. Oh sorry, I thought this was a serious request for all ....
.
Now I am really confused, how will you type your all important messages to your fellow guild mates whilst wearing an oculus, you know those deaf ones you were talking about? Wouldn't taking off your oculus to type on the keyboard be umm, what's that word - oh yeah IMMERSION BREAKING?
.
Just a hint, not everyone has an oculus, the majority of players have mastered the ability to ALT-TAB.

And a headset for IRC? A text chat client? Really???

I sometimes use a rift too. Speech to text has been around for donkeys, and some of the new text to speech tools are very good. Cereproc Heather is my preference. Works fine as long as your IRC isn't filled up with absolute junk, as I seem to find most open game chats are.

Also - about the oculus - are you really going to like reading text from your guildies in it? Lets make guild text 1,0,0. Enjoy!

Is it just me or is the biggest pro-guild argument(being able to organize and chat easier between a specific group) a feature that can be easilly and cheaply(relatively speaking) added to the current COMM's system? Then there's the uterly against everything I've read(new to Elite so researched the lore) about this game's version of the universe suggestion(owning stations) brought up by people with no real viable explanation to keep people from locking down the station to anyone not in their guild?

Day 3. This thread is still alive, despite being short one important poll option. It is partly my fault, I know I could stop posting.

But please, somebody, remove the three other poll options if you are not going to add the important fourth option:

NO PLAYER GUILDS BUT LIMITED PLAYER-OWNED STRUCTURES!!!!

<vanishes in a puff of puffiness>

:D S

+1 lol, not that it matters, even before it got tampered with it was meaningless, the only words that matter come from the FD team and they have been quoted many times.
