Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

What a unique perspective.... (sarcasm ended). This point has been drug out and debated to the point of tedium. Open is not the standard mode, it is simply one of the modes a player can choose when booting up the game. All of the games content is, and should be available to all of it's players.

I suggest you read around this thread in order to be prepared to intelligently contribute to the debate as it stands.

Quite simply, the game's mechanics cannot support both open and solo. It's cool, have your own servers and we can have ours and then everyone is happy and we can all get on with it.
That's fairly simply to understand no? If you want a Universe governed by NPCs it's fine. But you should have nothing to do with mine if you're not even actually in it.

I've had enough of my ship getting blown up in Open for no reason, so I'm quitting the open and going straight to the solo only servers. I've got all this stuff I can't take with me, so meet me at Sol and dump all your osmium, and I'll give you three times as much back!

You don't get blown up in Solo, for no reason, then? Hmmm? Strange?!! ....

What horse crap is this?? The game's mechanics cannot support both open and solo... the game mechanics support solo/group/and open just fine. Any other fabrications you'd like to throw out there? Oh you did.. you don't want people you can't physicaly confront in your universe. YOU do not have a universe.. you never did.. you are PART of the universe the same as everyone else.

I can't believe this thread is still going, I'd have thought people would have gotten it into their heads by now that the game isn't going to change.

Still, I guess it's a convenient dumping ground to keep the forum tidy.

Oh.my.... are you serious?! What Universe?! The alternate Universe in which you frequent but others cannot see?!
Sure, there are a lot of theories about this, but i really don't think we need to start simulating it in this game..

Just came back to add, yet again, a big 'yawn yawn yawn' to this discussion...
Slope around in the background without any consequence or comeback to your actions. Fine. But please FD, let open be open and get separate servers for the solo crowd.

It's hard enough as it is without your behind-the-scenes influence that i have no say or sway over... Undermine, expand, control, whatever, but do it in front of me, not behind my back...

You must have missed:

According to some members of the community, Solo players should have a limited or no effect on Powerplay - or, alternatively, playing in Open should offer Powerplay bonuses. Is this something you are considering?

No. For us Solo, Groups and Open are all valid and equal ways to play the game.

and, from his interview with Arstechnica at E3 2015:

There are no changes planned to separate solo and online saves, and players will continue to inhabit the same shared galaxy whether they’re in solo or multiplayer—again, continuing with Braben’s contention that there’s no ‘right’ way to play.

The Game is supporting both since forever just fine. And on top of that it even supports group too ;)

The whole "all mine!" thing again. The Ship you buy are yours, the Bankaccount is yours and thats it. System and Stations do belong to NPC Factions.

Indeed... and we can go on and on and on, so what exactly is the *point* of this thread?! Are you going to now close it Mod, as it seems there is no point whatsoever.

Oh, we can't close it (although we will need to relocate in about 15 pages time) - there are a seemingly never ending stream of new players who post new threads with "new" issues regarding the modes, the single shared galaxy state and the fact that we can mode switch on a session-by-session basis - and those threads will be closed with a pointer to this thread or merged accordingly.

When the debate ends, then we can close the thread....

This is quarantine, to contain the outbreak. all contaminated threads are dumped in here for the greater good. Like the Cassandra's Crossing of forum threads :p

That risk is both selective and situational. I have argued that the risk of other pilots is akin to the risk solo players take by not being capable of winging up. I will be attacked by wings of opponents in solo considerably more often, than I have been attacked by a Cmdr in open.

Last night playing solo, I got interdicted twice by 2 different wings, then by one NPC 4 times in the same instance. The Minions are smartening up.

So if Joe is on one side of town and doing things and Fred is on the other.. they can't see the same town? They are in the same town, just as everyone in ED is in the SAME universe, there is no alternate univese. In solo, group, open.. everyone in the same. People in solo do not have their own little universe just as you in Open do not have one.. it .... is.. the ... same.
