Advice on how to avoid getting stuck please!!

whenever i set out on long exploration trips i seem to seem to run into route unavailable issues about 2k lys out. i have an asp with about 30ly range but i think my navigation is a bit rubbish. some advice on how to get where you want to go and how best to use the sometimes frustrating navigation panel would be greatly appreciated.

If youre plotting over 1000LYs then the router wont calculate it. If not then youre probably in a region where a jump distance somewhere is too great, if so then plot a shorter route with a little detour, that sometimes helps.

Edit.. My Asp only has a jump range of 27LYs max

Try plotting a shorter distance, I have 32ly jump range I think and have never run into a dead end where I cant go any further.
Personally I dont use the route planner and just jump 1 system at a time once I am outside of the known bubble.

That's true...when out exploring & detail scanning, you will probably only cover a few systems per hour, so why plot 1000LYs when 150 will do

thanks for the input guys...
so is there any way of centreing and fixing the blue 'you are here' thingy on the map and stopping it whizzing about?
i seem to wander either up or down whereas i think a route through the space between the arms can be negotiated but by sticking around the centre plane

i dont want to plot long routes at the moment but just to make sure i can get back to where i want to go ie lembava

I just search for my target, select it so it gets the orange pointer, click the arrow next to the 'Current Location' to move the map back to my position then move in the general direction of the pointer until the next route is plotted, be it 1 jump or 30+

Ok, thats good advice... Ta

@cmdr rushmere... thats exactly what i wanted, rep to you sir!!
