Ranting for the first time.

Having once again logged off for fifteen minutes due to obtaining a fine in the system I bounty hunt in , I thought I’d write a few lines at my frustration.

Most of the time I log out completely and play something else. Never did this with World of Warcraft (which I gave up to play this), so there is obviously something wrong.

I fully understand I should be punished for putting a laser burn along the hull of someone’s prized ship, but having to then leave in the middle of a battle because I’m now ‘wanted’ is ridiculous. By all means personally bill me for the damage, or have a mechanism where its paid by an insurance premium which increases with each claim someone makes, but don’t make me have to exit the game to do other things. I know I can hunt in another system during this time, but I have my trusted hunting ground and want to stay in it, not be forced out of it.

This really makes me feel that although Frontier have a passion for the game, they don’t play it. If they did then they would quickly see there are some annoying things which really need sorting.

There are basic things which personally seriously annoy me…like when I use the navigation tab to set a course…why doesn’t it not remember I last selected (and always have) the fastest route rather than the economical one! Also, it’s a trading game which means we’ll go from one place to another….so why then does it not even have a drop down menu so we can at least select a destination from the last couple we came from? Seriously, this involves including a few variables which a ten year old could add to the code.

To recap, here are some of those annoying things:

1/ Getting a fine and having to leave not only the battle but the entire planetary system for fifteen minutes so we are no longer ‘wanted’

2/ Have the Navigation tab remember what we last selected for a route, be it Fastest or Economical.

3/ It’s a trading game which expects us to go from one place to another. Why then don’t we at least have a drop down menu so we can select where we want to go? Chances are it’s going to be one of the last five we selected!

Friendly fire is just that! It can happen to anyone, especially if they are a bit too trigger happy. It has happened to myself, once. No point in whining about it, just pay the fine and carry on. It would be good if people learn from the experience and maybe it won't happen again, because they have become more aware of their surroundings.

15 minutes? How many times have you done this? When I hit another ship, my own fault I didn't have to wait that long, it was 6 miniutes.

Does the time go up each time you do this? If so, how many times have you done this and not learned to take a bit more care?

I dont see how this game has much in common with WoW. And it would be best to not to approach it from that angle, it only leads to wrong hopes and expectations.
But i agree that the friendly fire needs to be resolved differently.

Doesn’t happen that often, although enough to annoy me. At this outing I have about 2million in unclaimed bounties and two fines. Unfortunately both those fines happened during fights with ships which were worth at least 100k each. Had no choice but to leave as federation would have started attacking me as ‘wanted’. So frustrating having to exit a fight when it’s obvious the damage inflicted was minor and accidental. It’s not as if I locked on to any wrong ship more than a second.

Its got a lot better recently. It used to be the slightest tap making Frag cannons a no-go for that reason alone.

Seriously i've been playing a mix of combat trading and exploration since 1.3 hit and haven't had a single FF incident since then (and thats with a mostly turreted anaconda!). Just change systems for the few minutes or whatever it is and pay the fine.. It shouldn't be a big deal...

By this I mean the gameplay never made me feel I needed to exit the game.

I agree it has improved greatly. It just needs to go a lot further before it’s perfect. All the infringements I had only involved hitting others by my laser for less than a second/ Sometimes this can’t be avoided especially if a ship comes from behind you at speed into your line of fire.

Ah, you beat me to it, I wanted to edit but got distracted...

I also wanted to add I agree that the security in the area shouldn't insta-attack and leave the 50,000Cr bounty ship alone and go after your 400Cr one but I think the Devs are working on that.

I did want to add this: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=153716
It'll help point 2 :)

Maybe we should have bumper stickers for our ships?

I agree. If I saw two ships with a bounty of 400cr and 50,000, I know which I’d pick! Seems the feds have a different agenda and love the sight of fresh blood, thus making anyone who makes a minor error top of their list

Thanks for the link though. I’ll look at it more tomorrow as need to log off now..

I disagree. System is good as it is now. It can always be avoided, you just need to take more care. Everyone makes mistakes but they are your mistakes, take responsibility for them.

I disagree. Today I was happily mining, and a nice NPC pirate shows up, scans me, and threatens to blow up my Clipper with his sidewinder... Ookay, I start to scan him, then I start to fire with my turrets. But surprise, I obtained "wanted" status, because I shot a fraction of a second too early. And so I had to abandon my mining site because security ships were hunting me for defending myself, wait for couple of minutes, and then fly 10000ls to the nearest station where I could pay my massive 200 credit bounty. Fuuuun.

I disagree, there is a point to complaining about it. It's a flawed mechanic that needs to be tuned. It's not logical that several patrol ships would be attacking a mass threat like an anaconda/clipper/dropship/python with a large bounty, yet the slightest tap on one by you makes them turn around and insta-attack you, ignoring the larger threat.

I once saw a security ship getting hit by another. And then the whole group of security forces started to decimate each other until only 1 remained.
I always thought it couldn't happen in that they'd always ignore attacks of the same faction/team. But that's apparently not the case... should have recorded it :(

Bounty hunting at a RES, my FDL against a python and an imperial clipper - fun fight till a random sidwinder decides to ram me from the side - so now I have a 9k bounty and am sitting in a nearby station reading the wiki. Apparently it will be 14 days till I can go back to that system, right, 2 weeks. This "take responsibility for your actions" argument is absurd, the station I took off from 2 hours ago blew up 2 ships (an asp and a cobra) for not taking off quickly enough (while I watched), thats MURDER and its FINE but I get hit by someone else in space and im supposed to "take responsibility"?

There is only one way to sum this up - this game simply isnt very good, its not programmed well (docking computers slamming me into station walls), its not logically put together (current bounty system, the whole insurance concept - seriously if my house insurance said "oh your house has burned down and you dont have exactly 5% of its cost in the bank so we will give you NOTHING" I would sue, and win), its not even close to complete. If ED was a mobile game I would give it one star, as would a lot of other people - how about FD "take responsibility" for making a sub standard game which, quite frankly, isnt worth the money I pledged on kickstarter, I paid up front for future expansions during the kickstarter campaign and you know what, I want a refund for that because the way this is going I dont want to play the base game let alone any of the expansions.

Amusingly I share an office at work with 20 people, 5 or 6 of which play computer games, 4 of us were discussing ED a few months back and as im the only person who has it I was asked if it was worth buying, right now Im glad I said no. Its a pity FD think saying "space is supposed to be harsh" is a valid excuse for being devoid of any game making talent, im beginning to appreciate why the previous games did so badly. Fail.
