Controller settings gone...

Suddenly ED does not see my XBOX 360 controller settings anymore.
I cannot select them in the graphic options menu.
The binds file is in the options folder so it's not missing there (appdata/local).
Any idea what is going on and how to solve this?

if you start the game without controller or joystick plugged in, it resets to default and overwrites your bindings, so you need to keep copies to paste back when it happens.

Yep, I did that but the game did not see my binds file.
I wiped the game from disk, did a new install, copied the binds file and all is well...

Yup, I had that today though I was still in game. Changed mode from Solo to Open, lost the lot. Even though Open still seemed a bit of a mess* I'm not sure if that was the cause but the moment I entered Open I lost the bindings.
