For the first time in months, I felt something playing this game

I hear exactly what the OP is saying, and I did almost exactly the same thing (I only targeted Fed PP aligned players) in the same ship for precisely the same reasons. My experience was the same in one respect in that I gained no satisfaction at all from destroying or harassing what was obviously starter CMDRs. I did, however, gain some much needed inspiration from the venture though. I was fortunate to get into numerous skirmishes with equally ranked CMDRs in superior ships and had some great experiences there. Turns out a certain PvP player group was recruiting in the area at the time and I got several invites from said group (an offer I haven't yet taken up, but probably will as soon as I get comms hardware sorted) and as a result my interest in the game was revived.

I did have some fun messing around with CMDRs in Eravate though, which was to do the exact opposite of bullying. I started interdicting newbies and ejecting free cargo for them. No one would take the drugs I offered, but they were happier to take me up on free beer. Even spread some love in the form of gold. It was more fun giving treasure than taking it, but it was tricky to gain trust.

I also tried out pirating CMDRs and found this to be quite a bit of fun to. Those that submitted had a bit of a laugh when I demanded a whole 4 units of cargo. Most were happy to give it up.

So although I too found it immediately unsavoury to bully newbs, playing the game with a 'who-cares-about-the-consequences' attitude did open up some avenues that have conspired to renew my interest. Glad I did it

Yeah, I really do think that some folks just try to read far too much into it. There are the obvious cases of grossly antisocial behaviour, the guys who spent weeks sitting in stations coming up with ways to exploit game mechanics to murder people who were unable to retaliate being a prime example. For the most part though it's simply people letting off steam or messing about in a game which permits, and even encourages, them to do that. I honestly worry more about the folks who get so upset by it all and try to equate it to real life. I spent years playing EVE as a pirate, yet somehow I've avoided robbing people irl, don't steal and find violence abhorrent... I was just playing a role, in a game. In fact I was willfully taking on a character as unlike my real self as I could deal with, I enjoy acting as well. Playing a psycho, or a thief, or a traitor does not make you that in reality. This does not mean some people with issues don't act them out online, but it's a very dodgy route to go down when you start throwing such accusations about regarding a game.

As for bullying noobs, pff honestly it's a bit off to make a habit of it or to seek them out in starter systems. Other than that it's by far the best time to get yourself blown up. Ran into a fledgeling tonight who'd signed up to the power I'm undermining. His little Hauler obviously didn't stand a chance vs my Scout so I batted him around a bit, spouted some nonsense about the Empire and let him go on 1%. Now, he might go away thinking that I was a terrible griefer with rl anger issues. Hopefully he'll have taken it for what it actually was, a game, a play we are all actors in. He'll have a story to tell his grandchildren in port and a slightly raised heartbeat :) It also lead to a great fight with a Viper pilot who came in at the end. People need to not take games so seriously.

Pilots like you are the reason I patrol starter systems. Hope to find you and drive you into bankruptcy soon.

Tbh pilots like him are the reason new guys should get out of starter systems as soon as they can, think of him as incentivising a move ;)

I don't really get your reasoning in all honesty, you're bored so your solution is to fly to the starter system and kill new players? I mean even if your main intention wasn't to pick on new players particularly you should have known that's what you're going to find out there. If you're so burned out and can find no enjoyment how is killing weak ships with new inexperienced commanders going to change that in the slightest? Why not at least create a challenge for yourself, go hunting for top end ships, go kill other pirates and psycho's sporting condas, FDL's, vultures and pythons ? Triadius player group is currently trying to blockade Eleu to prevent the infection community goal from happening, why not head off down there and face some actual experienced players for example. I don't know, I see you got a rush out of all this but I can't see how giving yourself almost zero challenge could possibly make the game any more exciting for yourself.

So I read the last few posts and the only thing I can add is the following..

WHO in the world of online games goes into a game as a new player, gets stomped by another, stat wise far superior, player and thinks to themselves "Nah that guys just playing the game and fooling around a bit.."

The short time I played EVE I got killed at a jump gate after doing my first real travel. The first thing I thought was "A player dedicated to hunting noobs right now.. What a pathetic *hard insult*"

I also like to stomp on things, little sidey npc's who interdict me for example, eagles in cz's.. Players I can't harm in the same way, there is this thing call empathy in some of us..

Another example of deep, immersive, emergent, gameplay. Isn't Open wonderful? :(

Sounds like an average netizen to me.

blame the devs

open and sandbox is amazing experience, badly for us frontier does not know how to make or balance either.

The answer to make Open the only playable way is a Pirates Parlay. Mindless Murder will not be possible as players should be invincible to each other (except damages) until coms have taken place to PvP, run, drop a cargo deal, or combat log (unplugging router) and get reported for it. No need for Escape to Solo & Private Groups as those should not be needed.
Also, CQC absolutely must be in the god damned Universe else they now make arcades to detract players from the original game which ultimately will make it all so dull. Thus making us switch to the grass is greener until we have a bored habit problem and stop altogether.
1.4 will indeed be just Passenger Missions and Walkabout ship. They never add enough content in updates.

It goes way beyond the simple killing of defenceless novices. I think there's an assumption here that they were all adult males. In fact women and children play this game too. Imagine your wife or girlfriend, young son or daughter, being subjected to this........

For the first half of my rampage, I "advertised" my presence in the system as a "psycho". I warned players I was coming after them by crooning their names and giggling. I did pseudo-Gollum impressions. I stopped in the middle of fights to type out Wham! and Kajagoogoo lyrics.

How would you feel about that? Can you understand that some people would be seriously disturbed by it?

Worse still, he has supporters......

Learning to accept and eventually to love the insatiable appetite one has buried under years of moral temporizing for the salty tears of others takes hard work and practice, cultivating the discerning tastes needed to relish the nuanced flavors those same tears can present to the cultured palate.

Bravo, good man. Bravo!.

How do you feel about the second tasting "the nuanced flavours" of someone's tears after they were subjected to the first?

And don't tell me it's just a game.

Oh for goodness sake lol. 'seriously disturbed'? By the way, your post was more than a little sexist. Are you implying that women are somehow mentally weaker than men, that they will be unable to cope with the horror of Wham lyrics and spend their life in therapy trying to recover. Please...

It's certainly my experience that women are more impressionable than men and more easily frightened, yes. But I never mentioned years in therapy. Not for the first time you exaggerate and generally distort.

The violence and dishonesty of your various responses in this thread suggest you feel yourself to be personally under attack. And like the OP you show a lack of empathy. I've had enough of you.

Is it true there is a station called "Club Tropicana" where you can load up with Liquor, Beer, Coffee, Tea etc. for free? If not then I need therapy as I keep looking for it and it is driving me nuts.

Ok, we'll put a tick in the 'sexist' box then.

My comment about 'years in therapy' was quite obviously tongue in cheek, much like the original post. I would add that the distortion and exaggeration is not coming from me. Would you care to explain how there is anything 'violent' about my posts, that's quite an accusation you are making. As for a lack of empathy, you seem rather quick to attribute this disfunction to others here while signally failing in the task of seeing a situation from a perspective other than your own, an important skill when empathising.

Anyway, while we might agree that blowing up new players is a little off I can not in any way condone the use of grossly sexist arguments in making your point. Nor can I see any redeeming factors in your desire to paint others in the very worst light possible over something as trivial as a game.

Op doesn't like the game. I can sympathise with that. I love the game personally, but I can see how some might not like it. Certain elements of it (powerplay, SCBs, Empire over-power) are pretty bad and need addressing soon. I also wish they'd ditch the MMO thing and give us a proper single player experience, and release mod tools so we could make our own ships, stations, weapons etc.

But if you hate the game you don't go and stomp all over other people trying to play it, you simply move on and find something you do like playing.

It's kind of like going camping for the first time, realizing that you hate being out, hate not having a bathroom, hate not having a mattress, hate not having fluffy pillows, and deciding there and then that camping isn't for you, but on the way out ripping down everyone elses tents. It's just obnoxious, childish and rather pathetic behaviour.

This sort of behaviour is why online gaming is considered as sociopathic as it is.
