Asp as multipurpose ship ?

Hello,

I am thinking about rekit of my Serenity (Asp class ship) from explorer to something like "Cobra on steroids". Not a specialised ship, but something for just travelling through systems in Solo, doing mission there, some rares there, some BH there, maybe some combat CG etc.

After some experiments and meditation at coriolis.io I am planning this configuration:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/05A5A...02242f.Iw18WQ==.IwBhrSu5Vkg=?bn=My battle Asp

What do you think ?

P.S. I know that I can travel in my Python, but I like the jump range of the Asp.

THe Asp is by far the best multipurpose ship you can get for under 20 million. You can fight (small / medium ships), you can trade, you can explore, you can travel over 150ly without stopping, dock anywhere...

It's not my main ship, but I still keep one for the occasiona lrares circuit. And it was my first ship that really felt like a real "proper" ship.

I love the Asp :)

My outfitting is completely horrible though - but I don't care - it's just such a fun setup for me. If you can afford the insurance on that build, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it! I'd dump the docking computer for a surface scanner though.

im running your set up, with an frameshift drive interdictor 3D instead of one of your class 3 cargo racks and a shield cell bank. great ship!

After some exploring, I am a bit sick of surface scanner :) I just left the Advanced scanner where it is, no need to get rid of it. Insurance is not a problem, normally I have 3x trading Anaconda insurance as a cash flow, because even an Anaconda can be killed by NPC pirate in Anaconda (Deadly Anaconda pirate exactly, I was killed in approx. one minute, sooner that I was able to orient myself and say "What the hell is going on...")

The difference between a 5A shield and 6A is a shield strength of 211 vs 235 (before boosters added in). And saves power and 20 tons of mass. Switching to a 6E cargo rack, coupled with an 8 ton rack, gives you 72 cargo space and would also make Rare trading practical. I also find chaff more useful than point defense since missiles are so weak. Asp is a fantastic multi-purpose ship. I also sometimes switch in a 3A refinery and medium mining laser and I'm ready to go for a mining run.

you dont need point defense, it is useless given how bad missiles are. should just go full shield boosters for pve / double chaff + shield boosters for pvp

turrets aren't that great either given the damage, but i guess it is up to everyone to fit out their ship the way they like it, also beauty of ships like asp is that due to good power options you can experiment with whatever weapon builds really. if you looking for best efficiency though, you should mostly go gimballed for pve, fixed for pvp, if you will run with your gimballed setup into someone with double chaff or silent running you will lose way too much damage even if you' re good with targeting/untargeting.

also as scbfromnc said if its for general use not pure combat (and for pure combat going vulture would be more viable), class 6 shields on asp aren' t really worth the lost space

The Asp was my favourite jack-of-all-trades PvE ship until I discovered the joys of the Diamondback Explorer with its Class 3 hardpoint, which is much more suitable to the bounty hunter role. But the Asp has it beaten hands down when it comes to module/cargo space. If the ability to carry the occasional medium load is as important as weaponry and jump distance then you can't really go wrong with the Asp.

Yes, good point. I will probably do it.
