Pack hound missiles, and why i sold them. [Video]

I spent 4 weeks pledged to Li Yong to get the pack hound missiles for my Anaconda. Then un-pledged.
I bought 2 racks. I knew the thermals on them is pretty bad, but today was the last straw and i sold them knowing i can't rebuy them. Why.
Well i was interdicted twice, by a Fed Dropship, then an Anaconda, and the main damage was from the missiles heat.
I swapped them out for another multi-cannon, and a burst laser. And went to a res site to test, difference was very noticeable.
These "special" missiles are virtually useless because of the high thermals.

Why would missiles cause any heat at all? That breaks my immersion. It doesn't make any sense. When missiles launch they don't create heat from the vehicle launching it.

That's too bad. I was going to go for these next. Maybe it's bugged?

yeh, i liked the look of them when launched, but pretty useless with heat. As you can see in the vid, heat only jumps up when missiles launched.
The voice is the HCS Dark voice pack. (sounds like spock, star trek) you need voice attack software too.

I was Pledged for 2.5 weeks, then I saw a video showing that they do 0 damage to shields.
Within 5 minutes I defected to aisling duval but the bloody hunters are unbearable, there not unkillable but they add to the already ridiculous amount of npc interdictions so I deleted my save and started over.
probably for the best it makes getting the Clipper much easier.

But ive seen another video of all the rewards and there all trash except the shield.
Why didn't you simply give us a Missile launcher that's normal and has more ammo with slightly beater ROF?
or give us a cargo hold that holds missile ammo based on how big the hold is.
Why didn't you give us the other weapons that come in all sizes so there not useless?!
Why didn't you give us a module to help silent runners deal with engine heat?
I was about to rant but I'm going to cut it off there.

Nope, that just about qualified as a rant and fair enough since it's spot on. Personally I don't mind the hunting after defection (I still think it's too easy to switch power), but the rewards are trash.

Yeah, same question here. The only energy expended on missiles is programming the missiles' targeting systems. EVERYTHING is self contained. Dumbfires require even less as they have no targeting system.

There might be a slightly logical but still far fetched argument if they were fly by wire, but even then FD would have to come up with some seriously convoluted logic for a guidance system that overheats a ship.

Baffling.

Hope you bug reported this. And I further hope they don't come back with the "balance" excuse.

no i haven't put it in the bug section, because i think this is by design. (stupid design yes)
 
It's those beams making you overheat, swap them out for burst and you should have no more problems.
Pretty as they are, beams are best used 1 per ship, unless they are the fixed type.

It's a real shame the pack hounds generate so much heat combined with low damage :/
 
Missiles do terrible damage, generate tons of heat, and are incredibly expensive. On top of that they are not gratifying to use. Why are these even in the game again?

Unless you just started 2.5 weeks ago, deleting your save is a bit extreme. The hunters only last a few days.
Unless you were planing on doing that anyway.

but the last battles in the vid are the exact same beams, (everything same,) except i swapped out the missiles, and added another laser, plus a multi cannon, and no overheat problems at all.
So i would say my ship can handle the beams ok, just not with overheating missiles.
I pledged to the princess today, so i will see if the shields are any good in 4 weeks. lol

The only thing i don't like about your load out is the amount of reloading needed and trips back to an orbital for reloads.. i use all thermal + a type 4 cannon (yes i do run out of ammo also- but after a fairly long time)

i just buy the shields + boosters when needed, nothing really gives me any hassle and the pulse can keep firing even with an empty capacitor

I don't do res hunting much normally, that is actually my trade ship, currently 384t cargo, and i only want the prismatic shields because the calculations show, i can replace my A6 shields with prismatic A5, and get virtually same shield strength and an extra 32t cargo.
So normally my cannons are only used on the way to a station anyway, they get filled up before empty mostly.

Yep i fully understand, i too have defected to the disney princess and her sparkly shields, as Mohan was ok for making cash, but nothing else- the weapon he offered was uber LOL (unless you have a small ship), and it's fixed, a turreted one would be great!

I`ll be interested in what else comes along, the advanced plasma looks interesting,but from what i`ve heard, it too is a bit underwhelming :S
A 6A prismatic on my Python would make a pretty evil (876 MJ of shield) on the anaconda.. it would be 1470 MJ with a 6A, and 7A would give 1713 MJ !!! :eek: or 1856 MJ full beef (8x type a boosters, but i'd be able to make a coffee and drink it by the time a 7a recharged!:(

With my usual load out i`d be running at 895 mj, with a 4A PRismatic i`d be 1074, which is a LOT more, for a bit more juice...(a 5A would give a Very decent 1222 MJ)
And i`d still be running at 97% power with cargo hatch active (never use it)+

I was planning on doing it but I was procrastinating cause it was the save file from beta and had a lot of credits on it.
but I didn't know how rep worked back then so rep was all messed up.
once I started getting interdicted by ghost condas I just said ok enoughs enough and scrubbed it.
