Undermining: I don't get it!

Watched a few YouTube from people trying to learn how to undermine. Basically, sitting at a navigation beacon and waiting for system security ships to show up, then blowing up their cargo hatch and picking up whatever they carried.

I tried that yesterday evening, for about an hour. Sitting at a nav beacon in a system that was being prepared by an opposing power. Didn't get a single security ship. Got a few wanted but no security ship.

So, does of you who do undermining (there must be some because there are systems that are undermined), how do you do it?

You have to be in an enemy CONTROLLED system (not exploited or prepped). You then do what is needed (which changes depending on what powers are involved). Yesterday I was destroying Sirius transports- not at beacons but in super cruise. Each one netted me 15 merits, but also bounties as they were not wanted in that system. Then I had to cash in the merits in system CONTROLLED by my power. The import things to note are, CONTROLLED -means something different then simply in your powers area of operations. To know specifically what you have to do in each area visit the power contact in that area.

Oh wow! Thanks for the clarification! I would have waited a long time there, then!

I guess that this make sense for prepped systems. You can still prep a system that is being prepped by another power, right?

What about system being expanded? Can you do something to prevent that from happening?
