Ships you would like to see

I hope it'll be medium sized, or at least Vulture sized.

Also - Mamba and medium sized version of Imperial Clipper/Courier, Moray Starboat.

We need the Wolf as a tougher Cobra.. a bit slower and a bit more expensive, but tougher.
Krait must be in since it is the coolest looking ship in Old Elite.
There should be a Constrictor as well, with really tough shields.. remember they said in the mission description that only the most powerful lasers would affect its shields!

Lynx Bulk Carrier as an NPC mining "mothership" is an awesome idea. Let it have a hangar port where mining Haulers and Adders can dock and unload!
The Long Range Cruiser should come back as an NPC ship too.. and this time around maybe it should have "long range" :)

Interface shuttles, so we see NPC traffic between stations and the planets.

Wolf Mk II for the Alliance ship (roughly like a Cobra)

Alliance Destroyer so all three superpowers have a heavy navy ship.

I thought the Cobra was an Alliance ship - it's made in Lave isn't it? It's just it gets sold to everyone.

Well, with the trend of making Imperial variants of regular ships
Imperial Asp
Imperial Cobra
Imperial Adder..

The thing is, the Eagle Mk III was in the previous games as the Imperial variant - none of those ever existed.

I have a horrible feeling that that concept art depicts the already existing and in game Imperial fighter - the equivalent of the Condor. It looks a lot like an Imperial Fighter.

a) Diamondback Explorer Mk. II:
Updated internals to make it better at combat, higher maneuverability somewhere in the middle of the current DBX and the DBS, higher speed close to the DBS. Around the same jump range.
That would make it a unique multipurpose ship in the range of the Vulture without being a Vulture and without making the Asp useless. It's small cargo space would not turn it into a trader, the small scoop not into a better explorer than the Asp, the shields, armor and lower maneuverability won't make it a better or equal fighter than the Vulture. It would be a good smuggling and mission running ship (maybe add long distance missions).

b) MCOMS "Medium sized Combat Oriented Multipurpose Ship":
Bigger than the Asp but smaller than the Clipper or Python, closer to the Asp. Enough internal space to fit different things, but not enough to make it a real trader. Focus on speed, maneuverability and combat while sacrificing cargo space. Medium jump range. Decent weapons so it can compete in combat with a FDL, Clipper or Python, but without being better. Not the firepower of a FDL, not the cargo and SCB space of the Clipper, not the firepower and cargo of the Python. Sleek utilitarian design (cross between Cobra and DBX) with absolutely no trace of Imperial ship design. A workhorse ship.

Your (a) idea sounds like a Cobra Mk III only with a Diamondback Explorer's jump range - that would pretty much make the Cobra Mk III obsolete.

I like your (b) idea and hope there's a ship like that in the works. Something between the Asp and Python for multirole would be lovely :)

Not exactly, the Diamondback Explorer doesn't have the cargo space of a Cobra. The Diamondback Scout is already the combat equivalent of the Cobra with longer jump range. A DBX Mk II would be one step above the Cobra. It would be close to the Vulture.

I think the Cobra Mk III is a bit underpowered. Would like to see a Cobra Mk IV, King Cobra. A Cobra that I actually can have in my ship rotation.

Actually, the Scout doesn't have that great a jump range compared to a Cobra - and its lack of internals and smaller size make it an alternative to the Cobra with certain advantages and disadvantages already, such as better manouevring but less speed.

It's also a much lighter ship than a Cobra, whereas a DBX is nearly the same mass.

Something like a DBX with better manouevrability (which is the DBX's biggest drawback and then its low speed) and nearly DBS speed would have better hardpoints than a Cobra and nearly as good speed with very comparable internals... and roughly the same ship mass, plus more utility slots. I'm not sure there should be ships that are just plain better than another in their class. The only drawback would be 5 internals rather than 6 like the Cobra. So I'm not sure of the idea of there being a ladder where the Diamondback Explorer lies in combat somewhere between the Cobra and Vulture. The cargo issue is a little more complicated because that's based on internals, and an Explorer's aren't that bad - an upgraded Explorer might be even better.

The Cobra costs ~380 kcr and has 3 c4 and 3 c2 internal compartments. The hull weights 180t. It has the advantage of 1 additional c4 slot.
The DBX costs ~ 1.890 kcr. and has 2 c4, 2 c3 and one c2 internal compartment. The hull weights 298t (btw more than the Asp) - I wouldn't call 100t difference roughly the same (combat ready it weights around 400t).

Currently the DBX simply is a broken ship design. It could fit a special role, its niche in the game, but for that it needs to be faster and more maneuverable. How much faster and how much more agile it something that needs to be balanced.

Any kind of Alien/Thargoid ship would be pretty neat.

And still Im all for capitals in the hands of players, stupid PVP balance ruining the fun stuff. :<
Hope one day they will come.

I'd like a specialised explorer type vessel.

The Asp has too many hardpoints and too large a cargo hold to qualify, it's an all-rounder with a large jumpdistance.
The Dragonball Explorer is just plain silly.

It has to have a big tank and a big scoop bay. 2 medium sized hardpoints at most. Very little room for anything else but a shield and an AFMU.

edit: And it has to look good in screenies and have a great all around view.

But it does fill a niche - it has insane jump range. You can get over 35 Ly jump range from it. And that's with the two scanners on board. It's an explorer - it's actually in the name of the ship itself. It has a fantastic fuel tank, even four utilities (two better than the Cobra) if you want to put in defensive systems to run away. It may not look much to you for combat, but it is a genuinely godly explorer vessel. That's what it's for... and making a combat version of it sounds like it could just be trying to make a better Cobra by covering up its deliberately-made weaknesses. Wouldn't it be better to make a combat or multirole that lives somewhere between the Asp and Python?

I take it you don't like the DBX's looks then :)

Panther Clipper
Lion Transport
Boa Freighter
Imperial Trader
Lynx Bulk Carrier
Lifter
to name a few..

I was kidding when I suggested the Lifter ;-;

If there's ever going to be the Interplanetary Shuttle and Lifter, I really hope that it's after ten years with all the expansions out and Frontier put them in as a bit of whimsy and a nod to the old game... spending time modelling those ships, their flight characteristics, interiors, etc seems like a pretty much out of sight down the list of priorities.
