Do you really want to wander around a base station?

Honestly, I'm starting to think that maybe I don't

Nope, I'll be staying in my ship, thanks very much...

Yes, if it has meaning. Like in EVE I would love to sit at a bar or trade hub buying and selling goods coming in and out the station. Or stopping to get a hair a hair cut or a shave before taking on more jobs to earn credits to do the same thing again.

I actually really wanted a cork board where people can post whatever text/drawings. Be it RES locations, wanted target tips, or just 100s of butt pictures.

Also that game seems far more horror than simulator. If they liven up the place with npcs and activities (like gambling at least) it would be much better than walking around creepy, dark and empty halls. But I would love abandoned stations like this as well to explore.

No I don't. I don't see the point of walking around and I think those people who want it badly will soon become bored with it and never leave their ship, once the novelty has worn off, you'll never do it again. I really wouldn't waste time developing it myself. concentrate on giving us good stuff, planetary landings, things to find in space, wrecks to salvage, decent BBS with people, fake cop black markets, better variety of station (c'mon Frontier theres like 6 different stations? Frontier has dozens of different ones, come on guys mix it up a bit), better missions, mb4 mining machines, Thargoids etc etc

I want to walk around my SHIP. Maybe walk around the hangar. Not very interested in walking around somebody else's space station any more than I'd want to walk around the airport during a flight transfer.

That said, I'd want NPC crew members first. Being alone on an Anaconda 10,000ly from Sol would be very creepy. I played Alien:Isolation. Now that was a scary space station.

As long as moving around the station has a purpose. For example, corporation offices where you can get missions specifically for that corp instead of random ones you get from the interface on your ship. For anyone who played Wing Commander Privateer this would be similar to the mission system in that. You could get random generic ones from a mission terminal or go to either a mercenary or merchant to get more specialised and thus higher paying ones.

There has to be an incentive or good reason for a player to get out of their ship rather than use the "standard" ship system otherwise walking around a station is as doomed to failure in ED as it was in EVE.

I'd only really be interested in an FPS module in two ways:

1. if it were tied to missions - i.e. find the data crystal in an abandoned outpost; rescue NPCs from a station that has been attacked, etc.

2. objective-oriented fps shooting - attack and take the control room of an outpost/station with your clanmates.

Planetary landings would be the same - if I can get out of my ship and wander about, I want a clear reason to do so. Sitting in a virutal bar like Morn from DS9 won't cut it.

No not really. I'd like to walk around the ship and hangar but the last thing I want is to have to run down some corridor to go to the commodities market etc. I struggle to see how it could convey the sense of scale and at the same time bring something to the game. I would like a lot more things to do in Stations, including interaction with other players and meaningful Npcs, but would prefer that they are menu based.

Yes, I want a more economy options and out-of-ship player housing. Imagine having a flat on a station, and maybe renting out space for factories/labs/hydropnic gardens, where you produce/refine stuff.

As previously said, there isn't much variety in the types of station so why would the interiors be any different. It would soon become sooooo boring and all the hate threads being posted about players being bored/cheated etc.
What would actually be the point, would FD take away the option of trading whilst you are aboard your ship ?

I would much prefer if FD spent more time on us being able to hire NPC wings
Maybe this great announcement we are waiting on won't be the damp squib I'm fearing it will be :(

Yes, that would be cool, I would love to board an deserted station to see what lurks inside it. would be a ton of fun.

Agreed. EVE tried it with captains quarters and right up untill it was released the community was enthusiastic about the ability to walk in stations.
But lets face it - we bought ED (and EVE) to fly spaceships.

Walking on planets (when we land on them) is something entirely different. But its nothing more than fluff if the content isnt there for it.

So in short - walking around should be the lowest possible priority for a spaceship game. Why? because its already very complex just with the ships.

Walking around doesn't mean the same as fps, if we do get to walk around stations etc. I hope its weaponless. I have no interest in CoD in space.

Personally I have no interest in ever leaving my pilots chair so would really prefer it if other things are being worked on at a high priority.

That goes double in any stations like the OP!

I wouldn't mind the ability to gamble your credits when docked at some stations.
Slots, poker, craps, blackjack, keno. "Win an Anaconda in progressive slots".

I would not even dock there if it was that scary.
I think in ED it will be a much more mundane affair.
We will be able to visit our contacts, do some shady deals, visit a shop etc.

But I do hope that we will encounter scary abandoned stations.

Walking around all seems cool enough, however with regards on board your ship and you decide to have a wonder around you impressive hull, or walk by a outer space viewing window, or you maybe having a space toilet, what happens if you get attacked do you get to press a button and instantly get back to the cockpit, or have we got to pull up the skives and run back up 10 flights of stairs and lifts to get back in time ...just a question that i'm sure is on every ones mind :) please rate and comment (feels like youtube) and keep it clean and absolutely no toilet jokes ;)
