So what is going on?

Having played the first elite game back in the old days, I just had to jump on and get this game, but at the price I wouldn't until a steam sale was on. And I'm glad I did...

First off, the game is great at first, then you soon realise that there isn't that much content in the game at all. A whole universe maybe but nothing in them bar the usual planets and rings etc. I had really high hopes for the game.

1. Space combat
Great, ship mechanics, flight, all great. Any notice you earn lots of money when your the 1st rank and starting out and then it drops drastically? Missiles never hit and limpet mines? They never hit either (well none have ever hit me). As i'm writing this I'm just sitting in a high resource zone waiting for scan detected.

2. Missions
Seems to very few based on a dynamic pattern.... Find/Take xxxx in xxxxx and you will get xxxxx. etc

3. Stock market
For the amount of time it takes to travel and sell items it's quicker to just grind in space combat to earn more money. Rare comodities now seem to be very little profit. And trade items which you find to make a decent sum on are gone relatively quickly.

4. Exploration
In my first couple of hours I went 20 systems out and found nothing to do, spent the next hour making my way back.... Oh what fun, not!

5. Where are all the space ships?
Looks like there are only a bout 20? Simple exterior 3D models with a not so AAA cockpit and texturing. This is fine, but could have been more. Same goes for space stations, I've counted about 5 unique models?

6. Where is ship building? See X-Rebirth

7. Where is station building? See X-Rebirth

8. Where are peoples guilds/groups to join? See Eve

9. Where is any kind of process automation to manage your own fleet? See X-Rebirth

10. Mining, while interesting for 2 or 3 fragments split of a rock, why didn't you make this more interensting?

11. For the love of god give an auto pilot that works in space and does space jumps for you system station dock to system station dock is required

12. Stock market? See Eve

I can go on, but for the £40 to £45 price tag on this game, I expected a lot lot more. Read some of the negative reviews on steam, some people have put in insane amounts of hours into this game and written detailed stuff on what I've only lightly covered.

So when is the expansion coming out? And will we have to pay for it? Will there be an expansion? Will it just be some more 3D models and that's it?

#WhatToExpect?

There about a billion other threads on this subject, why start up another?

This game is about you flying your ship in the cold harsh (not that harsh yet but I'm sure frontiers as plans) environment of space.

It not about managing a fleet, managing a guild, managing a space station. If you want to do that their plenty of other games out there that allows you to do empire building Eve. It not about having a automated computer play the game for you, go and play star trek online if you want that.

You expect X-Rebirth and EVE. So... Play X-Rebirth and EVE. This is neither.

Otherwise, if you don't have or want to spend time getting into Elite Dangerous, then don't!

1. Okay... You earn a lot on space combat, but it requires a bit of patience.
2. Yes, the missions seem a bit simple at this stage. Mix them with Powerplay or avoid them entirely. I found them a good way to get started.
3. Yes, the market is dynamic so you may have to "shop around" so to speak. Trading besides rare trading can be a grind that is best mixed with other play styles in my opinion. That being said, it is very relaxing...
4. Patience again. Exploration is quick, so you'd have to go far from populated space to find something entirely unexplored, although there are plenty of "unexplored" systems in the bubble still. If you don't care about the variations of things you will see when exploring, then don't do it. And it takes time to get 1000+ lightyears out for new ground, which you also won't find if you just head straight for the sights (nebulae, etc).
5. Isn't 20 enough? More will come, so be patient.
6. Play X-Rebirth, that's not part of Elite Dangerous.
7. Play X-rebirth, that's not part of Elite Dangerous.
8. Play EVE. Or alternatively, look in the forum for the different groups you can join.
9. Play X-Rebirth, that's not part of Elite Dangerous. Did you not read about the game before buying it??
10. Mining is improving. But what did you expect? Mining is processing rock.
11. You want the game to play itself? Will you then complain when you get interdicted and your ship destroyed while you are away for a sandwich?
12. Play EVE.

Yes, people have been playing long hours on this game and seem happy to whine about it. It's strange, really. Why are they doing something for so long if they hate it?

I think it's quite hilarious that people put hundreds of hours into a game and then give it an awful review...."it was just absolute trash but I had to spend months playing it to figure our that I hate it with a deep fiery passion because FD doesn't cater to my wants"

You are misinterpreting the point of this game.

This game is an aid to imagination. Trade completely static and has no impact on the economies of space stations and surrounding regions and is a completely, arbitrarily fabricated illusion? Use your imagination! Bounty hunting an endless vacuous grind of pointing a pip at a 3D object for currency which as of yet has no use? Use your imagination! Exploration nothing but a trawl through the expanse of optic simulated space where it would appear that every single system is exactly the same bar variation in hues of spheres? Use your imagination!

This is not a game. This is a simulation of a simulation. You are the NPC. However, unlike NPCs you are able to pretend that what you are doing has circumstance. So pretend. Pretend this game has substance and you may very well enjoy it! If you are not willing to pretend then you are not welcome here as has already been made apparent.

I take it that was well-crafted rubbish, right? Because that sounded like a vast quantity of rubbish.

Fine, whatever, I'm going to spend the rest of the evening pretending that I'm a fairy living at the bottom of the garden.

That said, I do believe that Elite: Dangerous has at least £40 worth of gameplay in it. I've put hundreds of hours into the thing.

Flippant perhaps. Certainly not rubbish.

Likewise I have put many hours in to this game. Hell, I've been to the core and back, rendered fathomless ships space dust and hauled units of cargo from A to B for X many, many times. My point stands. The game is fun to play and that enjoyment is perceived by many people in different ways. But let us not pretend there is any semblance of economy or ecosystem in this game! Unless of course you pretend...

The OP apparently shares the same aspiration of presence in a virtual environment as I and I'm sure they'll find my comment relevant and agreeable. This game is not for us and the community is oft at pains to remind us of this.

Yeah. So like, X Rebirth kinda sucks though, yeah?

And if you have that much fun with flying around and shooting things in EVE, well, you're an odd duck, but more power to you.

The game is barebones in a lot of ways, and that's harsh. But the underlying experience of playing is pretty awesome, the core mechanics are really quite solid and polished. So I'm confident we'll get more involved content later down the line, once the foundation for it is more robust, and the pipelines for generating that content are done.

So I say, kick back, chill out, and just enjoy the ride in the meantime.

If that doesn't sit well because you want an.MMO, then that's tough.

If you're just too tired of waiting, then play something else for a few months and come back later.

You know, I do believe I missed the gist of your post, and thus I owe you rep. I recant my claim of boll*cks.

I had the same problem... I read his first line and dismissed the rest as fanboi-ism. It was only when I re-read it later I got his point, which it turns out I agree with.

Every inconsistency on your list will never be solved because FD nurtures a risk free environment which your points endanger - no matter how much fun gameplay your queries solutions would provide they won't happen because it might add a slight stumble to the communities boredom inducing behaviour.

There's a lot of galaxy out there to fill, for sure but the galaxy itself .. not bad?

While you won't be seeing exec control of fleets, NPC wingmen could suit elite's style. As I understand, the dynamic economy wasn't implemented before release because resource switched into building supercruise, a whole new add, made after kickstarter ended.

A wee bit of mining over the edge of populated space for me at the moment, hardened Asp.

Metallic cargo draws interesting NPC in lawless space between mining areas eg. dropship wings + grouped imp couriers, plus some nice juicy imp clippers (I'll still be running run from Anaconda pairs, on sight, until shield upgrade). Missions fairly basic yes, treated as bonus really, but getting in with the local faction means more judicious choices over and above the highest bidder. I like it, open play, making money after costs with 32t capacity mining now, just ...

(adding; using send {click} autohotkey script so don't have to mining laser, holds the mouse button. Actual mining is coffee time while my little drones gather in precious chunks. Minimum accept (for the +100Ly return leg + with detailed scans) is indite, or silver .. A blast basically, esp. the courier back through the blockades.

Talking of metal .. listening habits? Try? a little Senser~:

Hey OP. Every single one of your queries are spot on.

Unfortunately like many before you - you will come to realise that the predominant portion of the forum is made up of players other game communities shun (and with good reason).

Every inconsistency on your list will never be solved because FD nurtures a risk free environment .

Elite Dangerous environment is one of the most dangerous online, you can actually lose everything fairly easily, unlike many other MMO, Eve is may be slightly more dangerous but not by much.

Hi DimensionJump,

That comment alone shows you still need to learn a lot more about the game. Trading (both rare and standard commodities) is by far the best and more advantageous way to rack up Cr.

2. Missions

True, missions still need improvement. However FDEV is working on this and they already implemented a better backend.

Rares trading is the most profitable profession for multi purpose ships and common goods trading is the most profitable profession for freighters. Don't expect to make huge profits in a viper.

4. Exploration
In my first couple of hours I went 20 systems out and found nothing to do, spent the next hour making my way back.... Oh what fun, not!
Every aspect of ED could be improved, but that doesn't mean everyone would enjoy exploration. I for example don't enjoy minecraft, yet there are people having fun with it.

5. Where are all the space ships?

If you count all outposts and variations you will end up with much more. I hope we will see more once the key features of the game are fleshed out.

6. Where is ship building? See X-Rebirth
You should play X-Rebirth.

7. Where is station building? See X-Rebirth
You should play X-Rebirth.

8. Where are peoples guilds/groups to join? See Eve
You should play Eve.

9. Where is any kind of process automation to manage your own fleet? See X-Rebirth
You should play X-Rebirth.

10. Mining, while interesting for 2 or 3 fragments split of a rock, why didn't you make this more interensting?
Can't help you with this one. Since I don't enjoy minecraft, there is no way I will try mining.

11. For the love of god give an auto pilot that works in space and does space jumps for you system station dock to system station dock is required
So you can stop playing the game? You can do this already!

12. Stock market? See Eve
Where are the orcs? See WoW.

This game is in constant development, I think FDEV wants to support ED for 10 years. There is much more to come.

So when is the expansion coming out? And will we have to pay for it? Will there be an expansion? Will it just be some more 3D models and that's it?

#WhatToExpect?

There will be two expansions at least. Planetary landings and walking around ships/stations. The game is only 7 months old, don't expect the first major expansion before end of 2015 / early 2016. You will have to pay for them. However you can expect free major updates like those we already got (Wings, Power Play, Community Goals) with lots of free improvents for other aspects of the game. 1.4 (CQC) is around the corner and there will be another announcement on GC early august.

BTW I HATE HASHTAGS.
