I want submarine capabilities

A new ship with those capabilities would have to be shaped like the Lotus Esprit S1. And only be available in white, of course.

I never thought of this but it would be really cool. You could even tie it into mining. This way you have to mine certain non purchasable resources to reinforce a ship to be used underwater. Maybe a special material can be mined underwater also that would be used to produce special ammunition or build a floating dock. Many of these good ideas can be tied into current professions to add more depth/value to them. Of course anything planetary related I feel benefits explorers in a big way too. Weather systems would be cool too.

okay one thing occured to me the other day. in about fivehundered years we will be able landing on all those many, many planets in the milkyway. frontier announced vehicles for exploration on the planets surfaces if i remember rightly. but what about oceans? could be another bonus for ingame adventures even though it'll be not a outstanding feature for a space sim. but after all space includes oceans too in my honest opinion. So i want submarine apabilities for one shiptype (maybe one in a hangarbay of my anaconda) or at least the possibility to get a vehicle for submarine exploration :D

pleeeez Frontier read this!!

Maybe a special upgrade simillar to the Outlaw Star episode with the giant lobster's? May be very interesting.

I can't remember what film it was - but there's this bit with some panicked accountant "This rusty old death-trap is going to sink!"

Old beardy guy - "It'd be a crap submarine if it didn't!"

I genuinely giggled at that.

I am gonna guess at black Sea. A good film but then isn't everything with Jude law in?

I guess exploration vehicles will be something similiar to mass effect. Cant wait for it. I wonder how long it gonna take to implement these in game.

Why stop there? I want to be able to tunnel under ground in my ship too.

Not sure if serious or sarcastic (am thinking the latter) however Submersible ships ARE an official part of Elite lore. AFAIK tunnelling ships are not.
It is also something which I believe back in the day DB had said this was at least being considered.

(if you are gonna take the Michael at people asking for specific content at least do your homework on the game at hand :p )

That's the beauty of Science Fiction, just because it's not been mentioned so far should not preclude it from being possible. We have mining lasers so it is not a great stretch to think we would be able to bore a tunnel with them in some way.

We play a game where FTL drives are common place, think about it.

Every single ship in Elite Dangerous will be able to go under water....
I guarantee it. Going under will be no problem at all.

Yeah, but i'd want to surface at some point and maybe even escape the gravity well.

Davy Jones' locker is not my end game.

I would guess our ships would need to act like some kind of Hoberman Sphere while commanders remote pilot from within a cargo pod at the center....

meh.
