looking forward to this, will be interesting to know if we are able to choose who we play with or will it just throw us in with random commanders.

my prediction for alpha/ beta /gamma.

All of Feb, Multiplayer combat.
all of march travel and trading
most of April Extras

End of April Beta 1
start of may Beta 2
June to September Gamma

Same here, looks like it could be great fun. I hope the test will be random players, I'd like to play with everyone at some point (even if I do spend most of my time having my **** handed to me :D)

I think those prediction dates sound very plausible, certainly based on where we are in the current Alpha stage and the fact that people could be spending a lot of money to get into the Alpha now, can't see Alpha finishing before March.

Equally, multiplayer always appears to be the most problematic of game sections, it always appears to be the part that struggles to be consistent - so it will be very interesting to see how well FD have this next section optimised.

Wonder how the multiplayer aspect will be handled. Will there be a list of players logged on to send a invite too or will you create a game/search for games going on? :S Also would it 1v1 or would there be room for 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, ext.

I'm pretty sure we've seen the first one with the Sidewinder, but I don't remember seeing the second one before.

The second image has been sitting on my hard drive since May last year so it isn't new...unless I have connections you don't know about. :D
 
Thanks for the tantalising update, FD :D!

First multiplayer combat, then travel and tradiing (Squee! This is what I'm REALLY looking forward to), and outfitting too. Should be fantastic!

I'm a bit scared of taking on other players (since I'm a bit rubbish), but it's all for the good of the game, and I can avoid everyone else in game :p!
 
Wonder if they will keep the scenarios a part of the alpha or will they disappear once multiplayer goes live...i would still like to be able to practice on the npcs asides from getting dirty online.

[Speculation] This gives them the chance to test instancing for MP as well. Pick a scenario and you get put into an instance with other players who chose the same one. [/Speculation]

It would be great if there was an option/scenario for a laser-tag your it (in an asteroid field) in multiplayer, as well as the full on battles.

It could give everyone a good light version practice of attack and evasion. The one who is currently tagged it indicated in red on the scanner. Only the one it would be able to fire their lasers, and the others could use the heat mechanics as well as flight to help them evade being chased down. :)

Depending on the amount of players in the session you could have a few people it.

The quick Dev Diary is a touch base, as they are all flat out on implementing the next alpha, thanks for putting it together for us. :)

It was great to see off of David's left shoulder in the asteroid field, those tiny ships in the distance.
