saying that AI improvement is not important and can be done later is silly. Sorry Titus...

AI should have been challenging right at RELEASE actually! Its one of the MAJOR problems Elite has right now. Its why singleplayer mode is so popular, people can hide in it and playing against laughable AI then get bored cause of no challenge and stop playing or get wracked when trying open cause the difference to real players is so big.

the bad AI is a MAJOR MAJOR problem of Elite and should be fixed ASAP.

we have the information that FDev hasnt done ANY damage control. Thats enough information for me ^^

Enough information that FD has clearly set policy they don't discuss their employee/employer relationships, as any sane company should do?

People *should* ask for work done on AI - what about it. People *should* stop pestering or even outright panning FD management. There's so little information.

Yes, I understand that eventually FD did the right thing.

Well, I want to say good but... capitulating greed? They essentially moved to prevent bad publicity. That's never a good sign. This thread though, it is titillating. I have two tabs open, this thread and an 'anti-homeless spikes' article. Guess where my outrage is?

By the sounds of it she was giving a sprint deadline, that deadline wasn't met. Now the priorities have changed, no one except Frontier know why, and they need to resource it. The AI in the game isn't broken, it needs improved and that can come later when there is more time to do it.

She's been moved on to another backlog. Either due to a speciality they need, or simply the number of points assigned need a certain resource pool to achieve.

I'm sure her branch is committed somewhere, and when they have time they can choose to merge in master and fix anything left to do.

Beyond that, there is no further use speculating - and no gnashing and wailing of teeth is going to change these facts. And the more it goes on, the more it exposes the lack of any maturity in this community.

The cold resource pool style of modern agile management with story points and sprints meets the hot fire of fandomism.

And you're comment sir shows you don't understand sprint planning and priority management.

This isn't an infinite monkeys scenario. If I give you 2 sprints to fix something, and 4 sprints in it's still not delivered then it's time to move on and maybe let someone else have a look at it. You've already cost me 2 sprints where I could have used you as a resource.

I've been having the same thoughts. Its just that if they only on sprint 4 realized this is not going too well someone ELSE havent done a good job.

If its a scrum process there are reviews AND retrospective meetings where the process and other problems can be discussed. All leading up to and preparing you for a planning of the next sprint.

My point is that extensive delays would probably have been apparent early in the process. You then discuss this with the team and the "product owner" to insure the latter is always up to speed.
Its him/her who in the end decides the priority. If he/her suddenly decided to pull the carpet from under the team it better be for good reasons, as it can be "traumatic" for a team to experience.

tldr;
Based on the tweets posted I doubt the reasons are something she (and perhaps her team) can resonate with. And that it came out of the blue. Something that processes like scrum tries very hard to prevent.
The whole processes is about planned deliveries and not unscheduled cancellations.

But who knows.

All tings aside AI deserves a good update.

Hey guys, I just wanted to jump on this thread and just give a really quick reply.

It’s very common in development that people work on different elements of the game in order to best support the game and the community as a whole.

AI is an area we’re actively working on but how and when those updates happen may flex slightly based on the needs of the game overall.

Thanks,

Zac

And thats just it they have priorities, but it will get done at some point.

+1 rep for braving it on to this thread and giving a little good sense.

Whatever else it is, a comment nearly 17 hours after the thread broke could not be described as quick.

Zac, just need one confirmation - is Sarah's idea about re-scaling NPCs by ranks still a go? I understand it will be delayed due pressing matters, but all we need is "yes" or "no" regarding her ideas and design not going into waste :)

Or, as Ken Schwaber is purported to have said "deliver something you don't want in 30 days"

This thread started at 8PM BST, long after everyone had left the Frontier offices for the night. You expect them to reply when they're in bed, getting ready for tehir next morning in the office?

I recon she's been collared to work on Thargoid AI. She'll be back ;)

Unfortunately for Sarah, whatever it is, it means that she'll be missing out on one of the main things that drives her, and that's community interaction.

Can we get a +2 and beyond?

Thank you for the info Zac, I hope you all take notes and leaned a lesson :)
You're not coding the next Excel, but a world for people to be in, anyone who understand this will also understand the complexity of the human mind.
