C'mon, you know you want to. :D

On a more serious note, if the lady is as talented as many think she is, how can it be a bad thing for whatever project she has been moved to ?

It's not like she has been fired.

None of her AI work has been lost either.

Leave FD to make their in-house decisions.

Zac, just need one confirmation - is Sarah's idea about re-scaling NPCs by ranks still a go? I understand it will be delayed due pressing matters, but all we need is "yes" or "no" regarding her ideas and design not going into waste :)

Actually there's more than 'just one confirmation' needed. FD would do well to let us know the current state of the AI. Is it accurate that all npc are behaving as Harmless, either partially (in use of pips, countermeasures) or fully (in use of combat flight tactics) as stated in a post made yesterday from one of your team?

Well, it confirmed that a) Sarah has been moved to other responsibilities b) it was done due of flexibility and required changes in project management.

He also confirmed work on AI is not done.

We already knew all of those things.

Hey guys, I just wanted to jump on this thread and just give a really quick reply.

It’s very common in development that people work on different elements of the game in order to best support the game and the community as a whole.

AI is an area we’re actively working on but how and when those updates happen may flex slightly based on the needs of the game overall.

Thanks,

Zac

Sorry Zac but that response is completely generic and devoid of information, and in particular does not explain the distress SJA appeared in and the suddenness of the change. Is this such a big secret that you can't even tell us what she has been reassigned to? Is it even something for ED still?

Well, technically it said no such thing, but it did imply them, in standard FD ambiguous speak.

Haven't you realised by now that common sense and logic will not be tolerated in this thread. We demand answers, we want to see SJA's contract, we want all the HR records for all employees displayed publically ......

There seems to be a few here who are having trouble understanding what the rights of being just a consumer of a product entitles them to - basically nothing!

All of which Sarah said yesterday...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bothered either way. Its just that Zacs post seems very "politicians press release".

Several of us have said this but a lot more are ignorant about development needs, planning, resourcing and logistics... I'd say armchair developers but then I work from home on my sofa half the time (it's miles more comfy than the office chair and desk I have) ;)

Ha I was there. It was sad spending hours reloading and shooting at a stationary statue. Just goes to show what gets hinted at. Older we get the less mature we become. My wife vouches for that. Now scuze me while I go run around the house flying my enterprise model.

Don't bother, I'm old as @#$ yelling at kids on my lawn is a hoppy of mine, sometimes I run out of kids, then I yell at the squalls.

No need to be insulting, I understand them fine thanks. Any way you cut this it smacks of bad management. Staff who have been made aware of their deadlines and the conditions under which they are working tend not to react with shock and horror if that deadline is missed and they are reassigned. And the AI is still broken.

saying that AI improvement is not important and can be done later is silly. Sorry Titus...

AI should have been challenging right at RELEASE actually! Its one of the MAJOR problems Elite has right now. Its why singleplayer mode is so popular, people can hide in it and playing against laughable AI then get bored cause of no challenge and stop playing or get wracked when trying open cause the difference to real players is so big.

the bad AI is a MAJOR MAJOR problem of Elite and should be fixed ASAP.

Apologies, my reply to you was tinged with some frustration at the replies here and certainly wasn't my intention to insult. To both your points to, I did not disagree that it isn't broken. It is, and yes something within the management of this broke down somewhere and I suspect some mis-communication happened too.

And in the past I've been critical of Frontier's management, many mistakes have been made but I'm also aware of changes that have been happening to try improve this but sometimes, and especially in teams of > 100 people this can take time.

The cold resource pool style of modern agile management with story points and sprints meets the hot fire of fandomism.

See above, if you think I am a fanboi you are mistaken. I don't expect you to read my post history but you are more than welcome too - I think you'll find I am far from it, and have been openly critical of Frontier plenty of times. I am a fan of the series however and have been for over 20 years.

As I've already mentioned, should be case closed but Zac I must warn you this thread will continue to grow at least another 20 pages as people continue to moan. Personally I'd say no more on the matter for now as all it does it lead to more speculation and tantrums.

Great. So you're rolling the new AI out in a few more days then?

Not one single post here is telling Frontier how to develop the game.

You don't say. <insert famous Nicolas Cage picture here>

We already knew that she was moved to a different task, because that is what she has said herself. And yeah, obviously work on AI isn't done when it has been shelved.

By the sounds of it she was giving a sprint deadline, that deadline wasn't met. Now the priorities have changed, no one except Frontier know why, and they need to resource it. The AI in the game isn't broken, it needs improved and that can come later when there is more time to do it.

She's been moved on to another backlog. Either due to a speciality they need, or simply the number of points assigned need a certain resource pool to achieve.

I'm sure her branch is committed somewhere, and when they have time they can choose to merge in master and fix anything left to do.

Beyond that, there is no further use speculating - and no gnashing and wailing of teeth is going to change these facts. And the more it goes on, the more it exposes the lack of any maturity in this community.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
Sprint - Agile crap!
One of the most devious conspiracies that has got developers sprinting to do mini-waterfalls!
Another money making device for would be authors, training companies, and 'consultancies'.
