Here's a different view. I don't expect anyone else will agree.
  • I'm always sad when there is human suffering. It's immaterial to me whether a person suffering is the victim of random circumstance, or the victim of some outrage, or whether they brought it on themselves. I don't judge. There is always room for simple human compassion, even though very often there's little one can do to help. Understanding as much as one can about an event often reveals other people, in addition to those mentioned in banner headlines or one's personal favorites, whose suffering is overlooked.
  • SJA's work doesn't really affect me much. I never use a docking computer as I relish flying that part of every journey myself, just like I love landing airplanes in real-life. And interaction with NPCs is only a tiny part of my enjoyment in Elite; none of the reasons I play the game involve NPCs. So I won't miss her contributions. There are very many other parts of the game that I do enjoy and and I like it when Frontier focuses on those areas. If SJA's recent work was not included in any future release, I doubt it would affect me.

Therefore, you have no right to complain about anything that happens to you. You have never complained publicly about anything, right? (Just wait until the sound recordings of all the Brit surveillance cams are played back)

Sure you do --but there are appropriate (yes, professional ) ways of doing so. Venting on social media may not be in this particular instance.

I'd just like to point out that some people asking for better answers here, despite getting one, are some of the same people who told people to shut up and accept the answer we got in the open vs solo debate in the dev answers thread.

You can imagine my broad smirk.

Of course customers are stakeholders.

Arguably the most important ones at that.

Sincerely,

Strategic management consultant.

No. You don't buy a Sony TV and expect to have a say in how Sony operates. You have no steak in the companies that produce your consumables just by virtue of obtaining a product

A steakholder is generally those with the highest 'ownership' or steak in the project. In this case Frontiers owners.

Do they have onions or chips with their steak?

That depends. A Sony customer has a stake in the continued support and development of the product (think TV firmware updates, Sony TV streaming services etc.), which is particularly obvious when it comes to software or products with operating systems or subscription services attached.

In the NHS, patients are also considered stakeholders.

Stakeholders are any group with an investment or interest in the product or service. Given that many Elite Dangerous customers are also backers, I'd say they are stakeholders. Other customers bought into this game in the understanding that it is a developing product that also depends on continued server support, so I'd argue that they are stakeholders too.

You can blur the definition as you wish. In my experience of software development (including games) the end user would be impossible to identify until after the product was released (impossible to do anything after a console game was released back in the day).

So in all my experience the stakeholder is always the one who has the biggest risk in the product you are building in their name.

I can't agree that backers/buyers of this game are anything more than end users. You'd have to point me at some legal documentation that defines other.

That's ok.

So we are to take Frontiers actions as definitive evidence that they don't give a damn about the opinions of the end users of their products?

We included customers as stakeholders...because the list seemed short and this process document said it should be on the list....when dealing with general retail

B2B clients, a different story because I can actually call them and ask what they want and it works out because it is only one or two customers buying and subscribing to the service.

Wow, so much drama over such a little thing. SJA may have been a bit upset but I think most of y'all are reading way too much into some general work irritation over a common development practice.

Ok seems like on over reaction to me,do people think they are just going drop any improvment in enemy AI,Plus AI is always a balancing Act,I dont think people want the game to be childsplay, niether do they want to be a marocistic level of difficulty.Difficult when its in the context of the game is fine AI should not be able to do things Players cannot do and there behaviour must make sense
