What IS that sound...?

With all the whining on these forums I am beginning to think I've got tinnitus!

Example 1: Question seen elsewhere....

Why haven't the Devs told us what they're going to do in the future? They must have nothing but contempt for the player base.

Cue a very long thread of various people moaning about how bad it is that FD haven't revealed every single one of the secrets and plans they may have for the future of the game.

For crying out load people! They have no obligation to do so. And, even if they did, would you really want that? Would you not prefer to find out in-game what is happening? Be surprised? Amazed, even?

Example 2: Question seen elsewhere....

I parked my ship in what is now a plague system, why can't I land my other ship and access the parked one? This MUST be a bug. Devs placate me and give me money to compensate (OK the last bit is not exactly what was written, but that is the gist)

No. Fool. It is a plague system and there is a quarantine. You do not deserve to get your ship back just because you are a relatively new player. No, you do not deserve some form of in-game monetary compensation from the Devs. And no, although the news of the plague was on Galnet, Galnet would not tell you what the in-game effect of the plague will be.

Just two examples of a plethora of moaning that is all over these forums.

Elite is an immersive, real-time, operating Galaxy. All the planets, stars etc are moving and all the game events are happening REGARDLESS of whether you are logged in or even involved.

Get used to it.

Or go somewhere else.

Simple...

FD Devs!! You are doing a fantastic job. I love this game (my partner, however, would like to throw the PC out the window). Keep up the good work!!

yeah, silly me.

Whining about the whiners...

It was only going to attract the whiners who would whine at my whining and thus perpetuate that horrendous ringing in my ears.

My point stands though

this was my point, btw....

Agree with example 1 but in my honest opinion and in terms of good game design, example 2 is deeply flawed. Also agree with Tarman, complaining about complaining is pretty pointless.

Play the game for more than a couple weeks and you'll start to see all the glaring flaws that make the future look of the game look very bleak.

Sir, we've encountered a new phenomenon. It seems to be coming from a parallel dimension to ours.

Oh, crap, that is making my ears hurt.

Yes, sir. We are calling it the whine resonance phenomenon.

How do we stop it?

Stop it, sir? I don't think you understand. This could be the next threadnaught disaster...so many blood dripping ears. We should run!

Why? When was the last time you saw a real world news report about a quarantine that explained that if you parked your car in the Q zone, you wouldn't be getting it back until the emergency was over?

Answer: Never

Galnet is an In Character, In-Game, News Channel. You get the news. That's all. Not instructions.

This is purely a style critique of your posting itself, so you can make any future points you have without setting off a flak battery. Firstly, don't colour your posts with anything but language; many people run different forum skins and grey on black doesn't read well.

Second, if you were attempting a positive post about the game, you destroyed it by invoking Whineception. Cue up Xzibit memes (optional). You may as well have called this post Snipers Apply Here - Free Target Practice. Don't BE the thing you rail against because that will ultimately get you more cranky than when you first opined this OP.

Apologies if it felt like I was firing a broadside at you. Not intended that way. Irony and sarcasm do not come over very well on these forums.

Indeed, but in reality "real world" "good game design".

No damage taken, I survived the MWO forums. :D

Just some advice so you can post without getting shot in the head. Yes, stuff and people can be infuriating, but as soon as you flip your OWN beans, you're one of them.

Plus I'm tired of looking at that same picture of Xzibit. You'd think they'd at least lift some shots from Pimp My Ride once in a while, but no.

I've been playing since December last year...

How long have you been playing?
Since release. Have all the credits and ships I could want. All of the activities in game are generic and bland the only thing this game has right is the flight model and galaxy, the things you actually DO are patheticly ill thought out and boring. Go to x and collect y, go to z system look for x npc..... Yawn.

Elite isn't really a game as much as a sim...and sims sacrifice "gameplay" for realism (go play a really hardcore flightsim sometime, and then you'll see what I mean when you have to spend 45 minutes figuring out how to turn your engines on). Sims are kinda games, and are fun, but will also sacrifice gamey stuff in favor of being more realistic (yes, I know, space simulator and realistic, but its a scifi space sim so its as realistic as possible while still being useable). That's why stuff like getting your ship locked in a quarantined station is just fine...and why you really do need to pay attention to those news articles before something stupid happens to you.

If no one read your thread would your whine have made a sound?

Seriously though if its a strange ethereal whistle then you might have your fuel scoop deployed.
